Nice to see Closer in the top 20. Not nice to see Cheap Thrills on the chart though :(

I feel like Closer will be the song that makes this decade. When people look back to the 2010's, the song they will think about the most is Closer.
Donald Trump and The Chainsmokers are the topics of the decade. Never expected that.

^ Heh, I think Uptown Funk will be more well remembered, as that definitely had more buzz when it was the thing. Not with any disrespect towards Closer, though.
Also, anyone think that the Oscars might give CSTF enough of a boost to make it? That'd be pushing it, but it's looking likely to make 52 weeks.

It seems that for next week's chart it'll definitely rise due to increased sales (kworb has it selling just over half of what Shape of You would get for the week and would almost as much as That's What I Like) and a smaller increase in streaming. CSTF! has would have 12 weeks left to chart, so chances are it might make it. I looked liked it would fall more quick a few months ago, but has held up pretty well.

As much as I love Uptown Funk, the song is definitely not of this decade. It's reminisce of 1980's funk. Closer is definitely a song that is the 2010's. Party Rock and Closer will be remembered as 2010's gems, the former representing the early 2010's, while the latter represents the late 2010's. Closer is a decade definer. IT will be the song people bring up in 20 years to reference the 2010's and it's culture. No doubt about it.

^ Not 100% true. It did briefly fall out of the Top 30 back in December, I remember when it was at the tail-end of the Top 40 as a result of the J. Cole album bomb. That was its lowest position yet, if memory serves. I vaguely remember it being either Good Feeling or What Do You Mean, somewhere around there.

It was in the 30s in the last 2 charts dated 2016 and first one of 2017, actually dropping as low as #39 before rebounding into the Top 30. I thought when that last thing happened it would drop out within the next week or two, but I guess all those movie award shows have helped to keep it around and have more longevity than I thought. It seems likely it will be able to reach 52 weeks charted.

If the formula is the same from the previous months, this week Closer went up 6-4. With another Top 10 next week (very unlikely), it will be #3. In March, Closer was #5 for 2 weeks and #10 for another 2. In terms of points it's the same as being #1 for 2 weeks or #2 for 3 weeks (104K points). After 7 months that's insane.

Nice to see Don't Let Me Down in the top 50 Well, it won't be there for much longer, I can tell you that now. Anyway... "Well, I'm not really too intrigued by these predictions anymore" - Let me guess, because Closer is testing your patience just as much as mine (and the people that have loathed it since day one)? I feel for you, bro. Anyway, our dropouts - To Broccoli, you were quite the fun little song that kinda came out of nowhere, but I didn't think you'd reach the biggest of leagues. And I was right. But your time has come, unfortunately. Doesn't keep you from being edible, though. You'll be missed, at least by me. Juju On That Beat, though, is not getting a eulogy from me. Good riddance. Rot in hell where you belong. That aside... So it looks like CSTF is rather close to the cutoff! But unfortunately, something tells me that it's gonna be one that'll JUST barely miss it, and be like a circumstance where with a slightly higher position in its time in the Top 10, it would've. Gosh darn it! But we'll see, I can hope for it at least. Also, kcdawg, remember how you said that you felt like Uptown Funk wasn't of this generation and that Closer will likewise be more associated with it in comparison? What about Adele? Would you say that she's reminiscent of older soul/R&B acts too? Rolling In The Deep was pretty massive, but streaming wasn't a thing when that came along.

I may be the minority, but Rolling In The Deep has never sounded like a old soul/R&B song. There's of course subtle sounds in there, but most of it is refined enough that it fits in with the 2010's. Uptown Funk does not sound one bit like a song from this decade, it's very 70's funk. Overall, despite how massive both songs were, I don't think either of them will be associated with the 2010's. Closer and Party Rock Anthem seem like the songs that will be referenced for the decade in the future, though I've been wrong in the past many times. We'll see I guess. Let's talk in 2027.

The next month should be interesting for Heathens and CSTF. I made a simulation where CSTF falls 4 positions per week (28-32-36-40-44-48) and it got 709.193 points. Heathens needs 3 more weeks, but I don't think it gets there.

Yeah, Stressed Out unfortunately only did well for 2016. Its lack of time in the Top 10 and being a rather unlucky #2 didn't do it many favors.
Also, since Closer is projected to drop to #13 on the Hot 100 this coming week, I'll say right now that if it doesn't gain, and leaves the Top 20 soon, then it won't surpass Uptown Funk. In the hypothetical situation where it were to stay #13 all 20 of its remaining weeks, which it won't, that'd give it 187,200 more points, which would allow it to surpass Uptown Funk by the skin of its teeth. So yeah, I think it'll be alright. Let's hope so at least, for the sake of me and those that always hated Closer.

Top 10 runs
Uptown Funk 14 weeks at #1 4 weeks at #2 3 weeks at #3 (One of those with the 0.85 multiplier (December 2014)) 1 week at #4 3 weeks at #5 (One of those with the 0.85 multiplier (December 2014)) 4 weeks at #6 2 weeks at #8 (One of those with the 0.85 multiplier (December 2014))
Total points while in the Top 10: 1.253.071,45
Closer 12 weeks at #1 3 weeks at #2 6 weeks at #3 2 weeks at #4 4 weeks at #5 1 week at #6 1 week at #7 1 week at #9 2 weeks at #10
Total points while in the Top 10: 1.229.424,80
Well, UF has more points while in the Top 10 than Closer. Interesting.

georgetherunner314Based on what you figured out about the billboard inverse point system, do you think it bears upon some delicate mathematical/geometric/numerical relationship within 100 chart positions or it's just some abbreviated piece of underwhelming pandering bunkum?

While George doesn't come back, I made some calculations using his formula just for fun:
After 05/06/2017
#3 Closer 1,271,284 points (Last decade rank with these points: #3) #64 Shape Of You 727,999 (#90) #71 Can't Stop The Feeling 711,820 (#99) #76 Heathens 704,109 (#103) #79 Starboy 699,025 (#106) #98 Black Beatles 640,305 (around #125)

Will "Shape Of You" make a play for the top? I don't think so, since this week should be it's last in the Top 3. I think SOY will stay in the 5-10 range for a long time, tho. I'm predicting it to be in the lower region of this decade's Top 10.

So seeing as we're two weeks away from 75% of the way through the decade, should CSTF get those last two weeks in, it might have a shot after all. Heathens and Starboy, however, sad those two will probably barely miss.

I noticed you had point totals for songs below the #100 cutoff for last decade so was just wondering.
