As long as the Bruno song is catchy, he's probably good. I can imagine the song is going to be similar to "Uptown Funk".

The comeback males (JT, Zayn; Yes I am including him) seem to be doing better than the comeback females (Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Britney Spears) so Bruno should be safe I guess. Also another point is that uptown funk managed to come out successful so it should do the same to 24k Magic P!nk had a hit with Just Like Fire and Katy's Rise wasn't the lead single from her album. Justin #1 Zayn #1 Katy #11 Gaga #15 Britney #17 Objectively the observation is accurate. And for the "Katy's song wasn't from her album" club, neither was Justin's.

#13: Woohoo! Keep going! #15, 24 and 29: GO AWAY!!! #26: I swear, this one gets weirder every week. #40: I hope this isn't it. Please make the Year-End. :( #46: Nice to see it still here as high as it is, if for no reason other than that I still love it Not to mention it being right next to the potential #1 of the year. #51: Oh boy. #66 and 67: (Uh-huh, basically by default this time) #70: Nice. Maybe it'll be a sleeper hit and get big next year?

Fun fact: if "Closer" and "Starboy" keep growing at the rate that they are right now, it will take 32 days for "Starboy" to come out on top. Let's not forget the "Closer" video is still coming.

What's up with artists releasing stuff on Thursdays? We went over this before. (Last week?) It has to do with the release schedules. Everything is released on Fridays now, but it's up to the discretion of the label/artist as to which Friday. You can choose to hold release until it's Friday in the US and release it worldwide then, you can choose to release worldwide when it first becomes Friday in the eastern hemisphere (which would be Thursday in the US), or release it at midnight on Friday in each time zone. The trend lately is for the second one.

What's up with artists releasing stuff on Thursdays? Starboy was released on a Thursday because it was the first of fall, and the lyrics in the song are "I come alive in the fall time."

But it's not like when Tuesday was release day we had a ton of singles being released on Monday in the U.S. when it was already Tuesday on the other side of the globe (and honestly it would have made more sense anyway since the sales week was Monday-Sunday then). I find this Thursday thing really odd, though Bruno Mars isn't doing it. I don't see why they can't just release it at midnight Friday in each country, as you mentioned at the end your post.

Because Tuesday wasn't an international day. Each country had their own set day. Also, thanks to the streaming and digital age, it's hard to release separately in each country these days. If you release in one and not another, you're losing a lot of potential sales and streams (income) from legal sites by withholding. Also, if you release in one country before another, because of the Internet, it's no longer "new" when you release it hours later in another country. It's all about being the first out there.

Because Tuesday wasn't an international day. Each country had their own set day. That's frankly even more reason for them to have been on the same page previously. Eh, maybe I am being naive, but I don't see a lot of lost sales because a single drops in Australia half a day before the U.S. It's not like having been out for 2 months already is keeping "Closer" from selling. And really, only die-hard fans of an artist are going to know a song is out a few hours earlier somewhere else. Meanwhile, singles don't get to debut as high due to the first week of sales being split across 2 weeks, which means the chart position can look less impressive than it would otherwise. That sort of thing can hurt a song.

And for the "Katy's song wasn't from her album" club, neither was Justin's. Justin's song wasn't the lead single from his album, but it might as well have been. Rise would never be Katy's lead single and it's not really the sound people even expect from her.

At the moment I'd bet on Starboy getting blocked because of Closer and Bruno but let's wait until Bruno's song is out, because it could also be another Perfect Illusion / Rise / Make Me. The comeback males (JT, Zayn; Yes I am including him) seem to be doing better than the comeback females (Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Britney Spears) so Bruno should be safe I guess. Also another point is that uptown funk managed to come out successful so it should do the same to 24k Magic The males you mentioned (and Katy Perry) are not in "comeback" status though. Since Zayn is a debut solo artist, he just came , and Justin, Bruno, and Perry's previous albums were all successful.

Welp, Bruno released the video today with the song, so now I'm starting to agree with others that Starboy might be blocked.

You think it's disappointing? We'll have to see how much the general public disagrees. Being the juggernaut he is, Bruno Mars is sure to make an impact with this thing.
We'll find out if it manages to get huge like CSTF, or sink like the divas' comeback tracks.

Honestly, I love it. I don't think it's quite as good as Uptown Fun, but... how the hell are you supposed to follow THAT up? God damn, that synth. That bassline. That beat. Makes me wanna get up and dance at 2 AM.

Now that Revolution radio's out, do you think Bang Bang will get a big enough boost to chart? It reached #4 on Bubbling Under when the single was released.

"24k Magic" up to #3. I thought it might climb a little faster, but it's rising fast now that people in the U.S. are awake. It should be interesting.

What's going on with I Met a Girl? Country radio usually isn't this quick to drop songs. I thought they usually wait 10-15 weeks before songs start losing big, and it's only been on the chart for six weeks.
