Dr. Indies's weekly top 60 charts for 2023 and back archives

[Doc Indie Party Rock]

After the success of my top songs of 2016 list; I decided to start charting my weekly top 50 here as well. As indicated; you will find a lot of untapped Indie pop, Rock, new wave; as well as songs I discover on other members charts. I also showcase a lot of my fan art I make for the songs; upload videos and other surprises. ..and of course conversation is always welcome. So without further delay...


The first chart of the new 2017 year; also means a major chart cleanup. This week we have 6 new debuts; which means; a whole lot of songs get upward climbing action. Most of those songs occupy the bottom half of the chart as indicated with Blue highlighted fonts. Of the six new debuts; the highest honor goes to Young The Giant, with some brand new Indie rock in the form of "Silvertongue". We also have a debut that completely skips the tryout period in my HOT LIST and jumps right into #44. That would be the hot new rocker from Kaleo ,called "Hot Blood". This song knows what to do with a guitar hook. It will be interesting to see on what chart; mine or wheatsquares33, the song peaks highest on? With all this excitement; I haven't even mentioned this week's new #1. It's the first single off ABC's; "The Lexicon Of Love Part II". Yes. Finally The New Romantic icons of the 80's; take over the #1 position with "Viva Love". You you next week. Same time. Same place. Hopefully I can debut some new fan art covers as well. HOT List: This week I've added a great batch of songs. Almost all genres are covered that I find interesting. Starting off with another one of my best of Rock 2016 tournament submissions, is a band that has already had big top 10 success on my charts. It's the new single from WHITE,called "Living Fiction". Next we have Through Fire's new single climbing the Active charts, called "Breathe". Country Rock also makes an appearance this week. It's Brad Paisley with a little help from, Demi Lovato ,on "Without A Fight". Symphonic Metal is back this week in the form of "Dim Days of Dolor" from Serenia. and some Spanish rock from San Pasqualito Rey, called "Nunca Jamas" this song got my interest for the guest vocals from Mon Laferte. The fifth space was reserved for Kaleo "Hot Blood", but that song got my blood so hot; that it jumped right into the Top 50.

Flashback Video: John Cougar - Hurts So Good.
This week we flashback to 1982 for John Cougar's big number one song "Hurts So Good". It was the first single off "American Fool" and the song that made John Cougar a houshold name ,and a big Popstar as well.

The second week of 2017; gives us yet ,;another new #1 song ;that has been in waiting for a few weeks. This week; its the new single from Saint Motel called "Move". I've been listening more to "Saintmotelivision" and surely gonna chart more songs off that once; "Move" begins to descend down the Alt charts. Last week; my chart, had a lot of songs making big jumps. This week; a lot of those songs ,level out to make for a more steady chart. We also have two new debuts. Actually only one is new. The other is a returning song from The 1975. "Somebody Else" peaked at #40 a few months back, but since ;its really withstood its time on the actual chart ,and because of heavy replay on my foobar; I'm bringing it back for round two. The whole point of bringing back songs; is for them to perform considerably much better than the first time around; so it returns at # 28 with a major bullet. I also only return songs when I think they will go top 10, so "Somebody Else" has a good chance of doing just that in the coming weeks. I'm also debuting my new fan art for Kaleo's ;"Hot Blood". Once Again ;debuts in Green, Significant moves in Blue , and song's peak in ()

HOT List: Let's get right into the new music that is blowing my mind this week. Trip To Dover - "Boy" has a very 80's feel to it. Like CHVRCHES mixed with Angles and Airwaves, but it surely sounds like 1985. It's been hanging around on my "on The rise" list (songs in my bottom 50-100), but now I'm really getting into it. I'm also adding Panic! At The Disco "Death of A Bachelor" it's very unorthodox, but I'm loving it just the same. Next is Nina Nesbit. Seems she was more into Country a few years back, but her new single "Chewing Gum" sounds very Synthpop . It could easily chart on CHR too. I like it for the guitar like sytnths, after the chorus and drums; which sound more like 80's style. last, but not least, is yet another single off; Moenia's "Fantom" album. On this track they team up with Playa Limbos' ; Maria Leon'; who adds some great backup vocals to the song. I really love this song, cuz it sounds more like 90's Moenia. Meaning it has more of that melancholy melody they are known for. The video is also a proper video with a story to it. This should become one of my biggest songs of 2017?

Kinda like City Calm Down(A band I'm curently charting) or a bit of The Cure. maybe The Smiths. If you are into Spanish Rock; think of Fobia. Those who like that style, will surely like this song?

You can tell I like a song alot; when I go out of my way to make my own cover sleeves. Maren will be around for a while; since her song's style is very unique among my other songs. I first saw her song charting on Daryl's chart and dug it ever since. Kings are also picking up momentum. Stay tuned for more surprises.

Big week on the charts as Saint Motel hang on to the #1 slot for a second week. Many songs in the top 10 are also moving upward. We have Fickle Friends, Fitz and The Tantrums ,Alter Bridge, Ghost and The spotlight band of the week; Stitched Up Heart; who score their second consecutive top 10 song on my chart...and just like "Finally Free" ; "Monster", has also taken its sweet time climbing to the top 10. 19 weeks on the chart and still going strong. I'll round off the chart highlights with this week's 3 new debuts. At #50 we have new Indie Rock from Moving Units, Some symphonic Sythpop from Trip To Dover with their mix of CHVRCHES and 80's band Nena sound for and finally Spanish Electronica icons; Moenia break in with "Prohibido Besar". I'm also gradually gonna add on more vinyl art. 50 takes a while, so I'll upload 10 a week. This week 1-10. Next week; it'll be a different 10 and so forth... HOT List: With Saint Motel already scoring thier first #1 on my chart; I thought it only logical to go for single #2. I'm choosing "Sweet Talk". It sounds very upbeat and very likely to become a single too. It also reminds me a bit of "Cold Cold Man" which I missed out on charting last year. My next add is from the genre I like to call "Viking Metal". Its the kind of rock you might find in a swords and dragons b-flick. Hard guitars over Symphonic Female vocals. the band is XANDRIA and the song is called "Call Of Destiny". Next I'm adding the new Tokio Hotel song called "What If". A few years back ;"Love Who Loves You Back" was a huge #1 song on my chart and oddly enough it even charted on Alt for a short time. The new song has the same sort of dancy vibe and should perform fine on my weekly chart. The last song finding its way onto my HOT LIST is the new one from Indie Pop band SYKES, called "Glimmer"...and finally; a late entry from The Pretenders called "Holy Communion". It took me a while to get into this one, but its finally getting ready for some chart action in the coming weeks.

Indie Spotlight
This week its new melodic AOR rock from the band, Magic Dance. The song is called "When We Were Young" it s very familiar sounding style of 80's Foreigner and Journey. The use of the synths and strong vocals; is ,what really tunes me on to the song.

To go from Indie Pop to hard Rock; on my chart ,is the norm, and so it happens this week ;as Ghost ,score their first #1 song taking- the top spot from Saint Motel with thier hard rock smash; "Square Hammer". This week Blink 182 also score their second Top 10 hit off "California"and The 1975 go top 20 with "Somebody Else". Other chart highlights include the three new debuts. First is; Sirenia; who are also on Alter Bridge's Record label; Napalm Records with a little "Viking Metal" on "Dim Days of Dolor". Next; we have ,Through Fire's; Powerballad; and title track off their "Breathe" album and finally a song that surely looks to be a future #1 on this chart. It's from newcomers; Bravestation and their bouncy 80's vibe; pop hit; "13th Floor". Once Again ;debuts in Green, Significant moves in Blue , and song's peak in ()

HOT List: This week I'm adding four great new songs. First is the one I'm most excited about. It gets better with each listen and carries a heavy Classic Rock vibe too. it's the latest single from Cage The Elephant called "Cold Cold Cold". Next is my new favorite Indie Synthpop band. These fellows have a great Tears For Fears and OMD sound to thier music. The album is called "Designs In Rhythm" and the first song I'm gonna chart is "Windsurf". Next we got some superb new Metal from the female fronted; Letters From The Fire. Thier follow up to "Give In To Me" is the NRGetic and melodic; "Worth The Pain". Finally I'm adding the new single from Bastille. It took me about three listens to really get the feel of the song. I hate the video, but starting to love "Blame". next week I could add that new unreleased George Michael; ballad, everyone is buzzing about

The big news is; Ghost hanging on to the top spot, but 3 of its biggest competitors are still putting the pressure on strong. Elsewhere; we got Empire of The Sun scoring their third top 10 on my charts and the Indie Pop Rock band; COIN, coming in strong at #8 with their first top 10 song. HOT List: First ;and the biggest news of the new year is the brand new single off Nickelback's upcoming album "Feed The Machine". This one will surely be smoking up the charts in the coming weeks. Aside from the killer track; This week's adds list is dominated by some great female vocal works. Four different styles. Four Different genres. The Synthpop spotlight goes to Voes and their very vocally powerful song; "Hold On". Equally Powerful but from the Hard Rock Metal world is; September Mourning with "20 Below". From the land of Korea Pop I started fancying; Fiestar's - "Apple Pie". The different members all add in their own brand of Pop; which makes it sound pretty crazy but fun at the same time. Finally comes the indie Rock band Fialta with "Another Lonley Heart". They sotra remind me of the Spanish sensations La Oreja de Van Gogh.

It is a shame about Wonder Girls; because one of the aspects I love about them; is that they often learn to play their instruments to perform their hit songs. I hope the members unite with other existing bands. There is a lot of talent between them that would ; IMOP, better other Girl K-Pop bands.

A lot of the music; I listen to, is 80's related in sound. The synth pop and Indie pop resembles New wave and New Romantic bands around 1983-86. Even some of the bands are from that era. The metal and AOR rock songs also resemble 80's in that they are heavy Guitar oriented and very melodic in vocals. The rest are songs you see charting on actual Active and Alt charts.

as far as songs to recommend. You can start with my 2016 #1 song of year. "Livin In A Studio" by the Freeweights. Youtube will link you to a lot of the other ones. Just copy and paste the names on youtube. If you like what you hear; let it play. If not skip to the next one. happy hunting.  ;)

"Show Me A Leader" is the first single off "The Last Hero" and looks like I might be the only one giving it a #1 crown?. The highest jumps go to AFI's "Snow Cats" and Kings of Leon's "Waste A Moment"; a song that looks to finally be getting an nice upward push.The three Debuts all make early Top 50 appearances and are all from different musical worlds. Italo Disco vibe is alive and well as ;Trans - X ,lends their vocals works to Mirko Hirsch's new song ;"Video Night". Last year I charted Trans - X with their mega remix of "How Long Lasts Love" and this year's offering; is basically "Living On Video" part 2; except this time we get duo vocals from Mirko and Pasqual as well as some amazing female backups. Next we get the hot new song from Silversun Pickups called "Latchkey Kids". next is my favorite Indie Spanish Rock band; Abominables. Their latest album cut is "Tu Me Engañas". and finally my favorite new track off AFI's new album. It's called "Hidden Knives". This is one among many songs on the Blood Album; that I consider flawless Alternative Rock. Alter Bridge keeps the hard rock vibe strong on my chart for a second week, but Fitz and The Tantrums are stepping up 2 notches with "Roll Up" and they could score their first #1 song from the new album but then again; "Still Breathing" make the biggest leap from #10 to #6; which could offset "Roll Up"s chances for that #1 slot? This week's three debuts are all from female fronted acts. We have 80's retro revival from The Pretenders with "Holy Communion". I actually gave this one a push after listening to it again while submitting my AAA top 100 entry. Very catchy and 80's sounding. HOT List: Two brand new songs are in the waiting HOT LIST. The brand new one from MisterWives is already sounding to be one of my biggest hits of 2017. It's called "Machine" and has all the ingredients that make a MisterWives song great. My second is so new ;that it hasn't even gone for adds. It's the new song from COIN called "I Don't Wanna Dance". Killer Indie Pop that is sure to chart soon. Next is from the Swedish Hard Rock band ; Eclipse. Their new single; "Never Look Back" is perfectly made up of melodies of classic rock songs of yesteryear. Including parts from Kiss "Psycho Circus". The last add is for the K-pop fans. It's Red Velvet with their perfect Pop song; "Russian Roulette". "Rookie" is also hot on the charts, but I'm starting with "Russian Roulette".

I suddenly got into "Waste A Moment" big time. The other two are relatively new, esp, Moenia. Plus it has *, so keep an eye out for both. I also have quite a few droppers on the chart. More than usual, so I might do a big clean up come March.  ;)

This week; the infectious sing-a-long hit; from Fitz and The Tantrums, takes over the top spot. Also in the top 10; are my third K-pop song ;that goes top 10; since I started getting into the Pop genre. It's from the Brave Girls and their incredible poppy and bouncy, hit "High Heels". Besides the catchiness; it's the perfect synchronization of the girls; vocals that win me, over every time. AFI; also leap into the top 10 with a possible future #1 song on this chart? Four songs make their way onto the top 50. two Indie Pop songs. One from the female lead; Fialta and one from the band; Girl Friend. You may remember the band a few years back hitting my chart with "Monte Carlo". The highest debut goes to Indie Spanish Rockers; Abominables and their song; "Tu Me Enganas", and the surprise debut of the week; Out of nowhere debut goes to Breaking Benjamin and their rocking new smash; "Never Again". HOT List: Every where I turn; new music is coming out. This week I'm adding Katy Perry's new song; "Chained To The Rhythm". I wouldn't call it EDM. It has more of a pop Disco vibe. Meaning; it sounds like it could actually be performed by a real band. That's reason #1 why I like the song. #2? The production and melody and #3? Any Pop song that gets away saying the word "Zombie" in it's chorus is alright by me. Skip's rap adds nothing to the song for me, but it also takes nothing away, so the song should easily find its way onto my Top 50 in no time. The only other song; I'm adding this week is the brand new ;New Pornographers song; "High Ticket Attractions". This one is really catchy and hope it finds its way onto the Alt charts soon?

Yeah. That live performance  made me like the song even more, hence , my new #1 song. Honestly; Anything from the first two albums, is gold for me. As long as they perform "6:Am", "Out of My League", "The Walker", Moneygrabber"(a MUST) and "Roll Up; I'd be in Fitz heaven. I'm sure you will have fun. ;)

I listened to "Roll Up" for the first time just now, and I think I like it! I haven't really been a fan of Fitz & the Tantrum's material (the only song I like from them is "Out of My League" which I like quite a bit, "The Walker" I didn't care too much for and "HandClap" I couldn't make it through the first listen) so I was kind of surprised!

Nice to see Brave Girls here! The only song I've actually heard by them was "Deepend" (which I love) up until now, but "High Heels" is really nice too! That makes me more excited for their comeback which was just announced (I think their new song is coming out on March 7th)!

Also great to see "Why So Lonely" and "80s Mercedes" climb!

"Roll Up" and "Out Of My League" have similar vibes. I've been into Fitz and co. for years now. "Handclap" was the first of their songs that didn't knock my socks off.

I'v e been into K-pop for a while now. Mainly the female groups. It s all about their perfect synchronization and uptempo melodies. The biggest blow will be the breakup of Wonder Girls. I loved how they played their own instruments. I'll probably take "Why So Lonely" top 10, since it might be last single as a band.

Fitz and The Tantrums hold on to the #1 position. Blink 182 and AFI are about to give it some strong competition in the weeks to come. There is also a lot of upward movement this week. Songs from Kings of Leon, Pop Evil, Letters From The Fire, CRX and Trip to Dover; just to name a few, all got nice bullets. the two debut songs come from two different worlds. Pop music to me is like fried chicken. If you don't eat it that same day; it loses its kick by day two, so I decided to quickly debut ;Katy Perry new Pop sensation song; while it's hot on my mind and foobar. HOT List: back on the list and with a bullet is the new song from Tokio Hotel - What If. I Really love the production of this song and Billy's vocals even more. Should be as big on my chart as was "Love Who Loves You Back"; which went to #1 in 2015. I bet if this song had the Chainsmokers name attached; it would be huge on CHR? Next comes some amazing New Wave from 70's icons, Blondie. The song's title; "Fun" perfectly describes the song. Next; I'm deciding to give ALT's best kept secret; Creeper; a push on my personal chart as well. The one I dig most; is called "Hiding With The Boys". I figure the more Creeper songs we chart; the more that will appear on Bangwave's year end Pulse members' top songs of year chart. HOT List: This week I'm adding 3 Alt rock songs with similar vibes. They all have that 80' Cure sound. I'm also adding two Pop songs. First is my favorite song of the week. It's from the band; DREAMCAR. Who are they? Basically No Doubt without Gwen, but instead the incorporate the massive vocal abilities of AFI's Davey Havok. It's the new song called "Kill For Candy" This surely is a song to kill for. My next similar vibe song is from Blaenovan called "My Bark Is Your Bite". I showcased this one before and now it's back for round two in the HOT LIST. The third one is from the Spanish band ; El Ultimo Vecino. I charted them last year with "La Entera Mitad". The new one is called "Mi Amiga Salvaje". If you like Spanish Rock and love the Cure; give this band a spin. This one gets a lot of air time of More FM. This side of the border's best Spanish Rock radio station. The two pop songs are from new artists. MUNA has just enjoyed a big top 20 hit my charts, and thier new single is getting quite the buzz. If that 80's vibed Synthpop is your poison, check out "I Know A Place". last but not least is new artist Skylar Stecker's new song called "Only Want You". Think ;a more wholesome Arianna Grande with a Carly Rae Jepsen sound. Don't know if this is on that HOT 100, but I'm very picky when it comes to Pop music, and this one is right up my alley poptart alley. ;)
