Dr. Indies's weekly top 60 charts for 2023 and back archives

[Doc Indie Party Rock]

We got a new week of excitement. First; DIAMANTE hangs on to #1 with "Coming In Hot". "Ti Amo" , from Phoenix, is still keeping the #2 slot locked, and Glam Rockers, Tokyo Motor Fist make a strong jump into the top 3. One new song makes it move into the top 10. It's from Chart favorites, Stone Sour with their song "Song #3" It's also poised to be one of the top Active Rock songs of 2017. I'm rooting for it to become #1 for 2017, but only  time will tell? Neon Trees make a reverse jump back into the top 20, and get MV spoptlight of the week. Three songs break into the top 30. One of them being a strong leap for the k-Pop girl group BLACKPINK. We got three debuts this week. two of this year's biggest acts return , both with new singles. One is Paramore with "Told You So" ,and the other from DREAMCAR with a hot new mystifying track called "Slip On The Moon". My highest debut is a hot new metal single from Liv Sin. She is the lead singer for the Metal band, Sister Sin, and this song spent quite a few weeks in my Metal chart and HOT LIST before making it's Top 50, with "Let Me Out". A couple of original sleeve art covers for Paramore's and DREAMCAR's new songs, make their debut too. Again ;debuts in Green, Hot moves in Blue , and song's peak in ()

HOT List:  let's start off with a song that is a couple of years old, called "Charlemagne" from the English band; Blossoms It's a bit Indiepop and a bit Neo-Phychedelia all rolled into one and sounds perfect for my chart. next I got another track off the latest New Pornographers album, Called "This Is The World Of The Theater". I like this one better than the current charting, "White Out Conditions", and I love the male/female duo vocal works too. My last Add this week comes from Walk The Moon, and their new single "One Foot". At first I didn't like this song. Honestly I still don't like the intro one bit and decided to make my own remix of it. My starts off with the incredible breakdown and then jumps into the first "Cross My Heart"/chorus part. I kept the rest of the song intact after that, so in my remix you get two breakdowns and it does away with that intro and first verse. It sounds better to me that way. The one I'm really digging on is "Headphones". I'll see what kind of damage this remix of "One Foot" can do before I chart "Headphones".

Not much movemnet in the top 5 as all slots remain on lockdown, but take note , as "The Man" is right outside the top 5, and DIAMNATE scores the #1 song for week number 3. Also coming in at #10 is Trans-X with their 10 Top 10 hit on my charts. It's 80's throwback tune, with all the right elements of a classic Hi- Energy song. We got 2 debuts this week. First is the Synthpop band; NEON LIGHTS with "1000". I want to say, they are Russian , but I'm not 100% sure. What I am sure is of that, sweet 80's Synthpop ,vibe the song has. my last debut, is a song that has probably debuted on everyone's chart ,but mine. It's just like me to start digging on the song ;now that it has fallen off the #1 slot on Alt. It's Portugal. The Man and their record steeling #1 song ,"Feel It Still". HOT List: I have 4 hot tunes being added to my foobar. First up are two songs, jumping in from my Indie spotlight Chart. The first ; "Up All Night" from Beck, needs no explaination. It's an upbeat Indiepop number that's sweeping the Alt chart. The second is an gorgeous synthpop song with some 80's Italo Disco, and Japanese, Aishui Eurobeat ,elements. It's Daneka Gold with "Whose Eyes".

I already showcased the Extended NRG version, so this week, I bring you the Piano healing version. My next song is from Synthpop act, Anna Of The North. She is well known in the underground Indie scene, but this particular song really caught my attention. If you recall ,the huge Pop hit, "Bette Davies Eyes", take a listen to "Someone". My last add is a song that is destined to be huge on my charts. It's the new single from MGMT, called "Little Dark Age". This one is amazing in it's ode to early 80's New Wave. It doesn't miss one trick including the atmosphere ,and new Wave dress style; which are both evident in the song's music video.

A lot of action on this week's chart. Let's get right into the 4 debuts. At #50 is DREAMCAR with yet another cut off their debut album. "All The Dead Girls" gives the band their 4rth single charting on my top 50. At #49 is a brand new track from MGMT. With just one week in the Hot List; they are now in the top 50. Their highest peak on my chart has been #15 for the song "Kids".  "Little Dark Age" sounds like a future #1 on my chart. At #48 we got some Spanish Pop from the band Playa Limbo. With a brand new lead singer; "Mi Perdicion" sounds like the brand of Pop that is right up my alley. This one has Disco vibes and a hot MV to go along. Finally; the highest debut goes to Royal Blood. I've had my ear on "I Only Lie When I Love You" for months , and since it's the actual second single off "How Did We Get So Dark" ; it's bound for some exciting action on my top 50. In other big news; DIAMNATE scores a whole month at #1 with her debut single; "Coming In Hot". Also cracking the top 10; after 22 weeks on the chart, is "Destroyer" from Saint Motel. Our video showcase of the week goes to Letters From The Fire for "At War". The song is just outside my top 10, and looks to get some upward action in the weeks to come. HOT List: 3 songs make their move onto my Hot List. All female sung. Hot off her debut single is DIAMANTE with her new single "Sleepwalking". This one really sounds like a song that would have a better chance on the Active charts. It's a bit heavier, but still very melodic. September Mourning had a great chart run with "20 Below" and this week I'm adding another track off her latest album called "Superhuman" This one has that high adrenaline I crave in my Hard Rock. The final add comes from Carly Rae Jepsen. It's again off her B-sides project. This one is called "Higher", and it's full of that Indie Synthpop style that loves to occupy my charts.

Let's start off this week's excitement with a brand new #1 song. It's from the band that had the #1 song of 2016 on this chart. You know them as the Freeweights and this week they dethrone, latina Rocker; DIAMNATE with their super hit, "Everybody Wants My Name". This song sounds more 80's than some of the 80's icons that are currently on my chart. This band has it all. The vocals, The Instruments, and the melodies. This week, the Killers also move into the top 3 with their current single; "The Man". That one looks to be the one that would give Freeweights the most competition. At least until Letters From The Fire move a little closer to the top. Two songs break into the top 10. "At War" from Letters From The Fire, which jumps from #11 to #7, and "Wish I Knew You " from The Revivalists. The two debuts this week are from totally different genres. The highest debut goes to the Horrors' new song; "Something To Remember Me By" and at #50 is the K-POp girl group, 9MUSES for their uptempo Pop hit, "Love City".  Again ;debuts in Green, Hot moves in Blue , and song's peak in ()

HOT List: This week; Arcade Fire - "Creature Comfort", makes it first appearance on my HOT LIST. The second single off "Everything Now" LP; is sounding very comfortable getting mega plays on my Foobar. My next add is an AOR Rock song from the band, White Widdow, called , "Last Chance For Love". Their lead singer; Jules Mills sounds a bit like Warrant's late, Jani Lane, and their music is a cross between Power ballad styles of White Snake and hard rock ,Def Leppard. My last add is from the band with this week's #1 song. I figure it's time for another new song from the Freeweights for the coming 2018 year. This time I'm choosing an older single of theirs' called "Nothing To Burn" This one sounds like it came off an 80's Action movie soundtrack. Complete with Saxophone fade out ending.

Let's get right into the debuts. First; 4 former top 10 songs fall out of the top 50. "Destroyer" from Saint Motel is one of the songs that falls hardest. From #9 to #58 in one week. At the same time; "Kill For Candy" hangs on for one more week, keeping the 4 Dreamcar songs, action, in the chart, intact. Let's get right into my highest debut. It gets the "out of nowhere" debut of the week honor, and it comes from the progressive Metal band, Heaven &  Earth. I even made a thread for this song, because it's that good. Anyone who likes rock, should at least find one aspect about the song to love. Weather it be the Chris Cornell-like vocals, the strong guitar melody or ridiculously epic solo. This song rocks, and gets another ultra high debut on my charts. My second highest debut, goes to indiepop band ;Cut Copy for their new single, "Black Rainbows". That one gets the 80's vibe, stamp of the week. New Indie Rock band; Blonder, comes in at #47 with the ultra catchy "In and Out", and at #39, is yet another album track from September Mourning, called "Superhuman". There is mad movement by all songs in this week's chart. That is; until we reach the top 7. That's where all songs hold their previous position from last week. Including Freeweights with their #1, smash, "Everybody Wants My Name".  Two new songs crash into the top 10. One from Neon Trees with their gazillionth time on my top 10. This time with their new song "Feel Good" and another feel good song from Indiepop band; The Wayfareres. They also get VID spotlight of the week for "KINGS". HOT List: I had two favorite songs this week.  "Hard To Kill" from Heaven & Earth and "Light Me Up" from Kobra and the Lotus. One was gonna debut here on the HOT LIST and one in the actual Top 50. "Hard To Kill" snagged the Top 50 position, but "Light Me Up" ,with its gorgeous Symphonic Metal vibe,will surely join the top ranks , as soon as next week. My next new add is also a song currently on Active chart. It's the third single from Through Fire. I only charted "Breathe" for a few months, but this new song, "Where You Lie" satisfies my Hard rock cravings a bit more. This one could also make an early appearance in the top 50 next week? My last add of the week goes back to that 80's vibe that is all over my chart. It's from the band Soviet. They had a huge hit on my charts last year with "Ghosts". This time ;I'm getting ready to start charting "She Talks" this one is a bit more mellow. Something like Erasure or Naked Eyes

*My top 10 Metal songs, chart; unlike my HOT LIST, isn't an extension of my Top 50, so my top Metal song this week goes to Heaven & Earth for their hit, "Hard To Kill". THis one and the new Kobra and The Lotus title track, "Prevail" make the biggest splashes onto this week's chart. Kobra and The Lotus are Canadian, but they put out some killer Nordic Metal with this song.

Guess I'll insert mine, right about here. Not too much action on this week's chart. Songs do move up, but not at alarming rates. We do have 3 new debuts and a new #1 song by none other than The Killers. At 19 weeks and a steady climb up the charts; The Killers finally peak at the top spot with "The Man". This week I also decided to showcase on my artsy fanmade cover for some of my favorite new songs. Those include the 3 new debuts from New Indierock band; Little India, who have bit of a DREAMCAR guitar vibe on their new song "Backseat". Newcomer Rocker, babe, DIAMANTE is also back with her second single called "Sleepwalking", and the highest debut from the hard Rock band; Through Fire. They had a minor hit on my chart with "Breathe", this year, but I'm digging this one a lot more. It has that 20008 -2010 hard rock sound that I really love. You might even say the song has a bit of Three Days Grace, vibe.  Anyway, this week, "Where You Lie" gets the honors for highest debut with a new sleeve and video to go along.  Don't forget to scroll down to the Hot list and check out new music from Nickelback, STP and Chromeo, and as always the new Metal chart is also updated. HOT List: Let's get right into the hottest songs on my foobar this week. I've had Nickelback's new tracks for a while now, but with a new Music Video; the fourth single "The Betrayal Act III" has managed to rack up the most plays this week.  With a song and brand new lead singer, the Stone Temple Pilots are also on the ones to watch list, with "Meadow" I'll probably be one of the ones who take this one up to #1 in early 2018? The last add is from the Indie Disco group, Chromeo. These guys take their disco vibe seriously, and their new single "Juice" is just as funky as they can get. Don't forget checkout next week's list as both ;Marilyn Manson and Franz Ferdinand, have just about compiled enough play action to crash onto the top 50.

*The top 10 Metal songs. This week Marilyn Manson reclaime their #1 position with "KILL4ME". We do have two new entries. The first being the latest off Metallica's new album, called "Spit Out The Bone" and at #8 we have new music from Sleeping Romance. They are on one of my favorite Nordic Metal labels; Napalm Records. This is also the home of Alter Bridge, W.A.S.P, and new Metal sensations, Kobra and The Lotus. Sleeping Romance is also  Symphonic Nordic Metal, with female lead vocals. The kind of song that has been taking my 2017 charts by storm, so this one could also easily break into the top 50 in the weeks to come.

We have a great list this week. Killers hold on to #1 for a second week and they also have the hottest new song on my adds list. Diamante moves back to #2 and Letters from the Fire are looking at some #1 action in the very near future with their gorgeous symphonic Metal song "At War". Speaking of war, Another "war" themed song breaks into the to 20 from Metal band, Nothing More. "Go To War" is the highest showing they have has on my chart so far. Back into the top 10 ,are synthpop sensations, Phases, with yet another track off the "For Life" LP called "Silhouette". Another new band in the top 10, is Fozzy scoring a hit with the Metal jam, "Judas". Four songs debut this week. We got new music from Skillet and Stone Temple Pilots, complete with a new lead singer, reminding us a lot of Scott Weiland's vocal tones. "Meadow" is the type of song that could perform extremely well on my chart. New Dark Wave from Compact Disc Dummies also debuts. "Remain In Light" has been hanging around my Hot list for quite sometime. Now it's finally getting some top 50 action. The last debut is more of a trade off. I decided to hold off on "Told You So" and switch it with "Fake Happy". The current Paramore ,song on the Alternative charts. The rest of the chart is fueled with the usual highlights. HOT List: This week we go to the Canadian Rock charts to pick out a few songs for my HOT LIST.  First we got some new Indierock from Dear Rouge. I've charted them a few times before, but I think "Boys & Blondes" will be their biggest hit on my chart. It has a sorta of 80's New Wave vibe.  A little like Romeo Void, but without the horns section.  The next song is from a Canadian Rock band called, One Bad Son. I Don't know too much about them, but I know that "Scream For Me" has that Active rock vibe from 2009 that I love. and finally my favorite new song from the Killers called "Run For Cover". I think I like this one even more than "The Man" because of the guitars and melody of the song, so it will most likely also be a #1 song on my chart soon enough?

This week's chart sees some exiting movement of songs, primarly because 3 of the years biggest hits from Trans-X, The Revivalists and Go West take major plunges down the chart. These moves also keep for a fresh looking chart, and this week we begin with a new #1 song from Letters From The Fire. "At War" is their first #1 song on my chart, and it reaches the #1 slot just in time to be a part of the year end chart of 2017. The top 20 sees the best action as chart favorites; Echosmith and Fitz and The Tantrums, move closer to the top 10. The one song that does crack the top 10 is from none other than MisterWives; who have had an impressive run on my charts with top 5 hits time after time, and "Coloring Outside The Lines", seems to be heading that same direction. The three debuts this week all come from different sides of music. You have Soviet's "She Talks" bringing in the 80's vibe onto the chart, We also have DWN TWN, another chart favorite of mine, coming in with "Bloddshot Eyes" and finally, the big DEBUT of the week, from a band that I had all but written off , after Austin Winkler left. If you follow the Active Rankdowns, than you know Hinder are one of my all time Favorites from the early 2000s, and after previewing their latest album, I found a song right up my alley. "Making It Hard" has all the sleaze in the lyrics one could want. The sleeve art is also an original of mine. In fact all three sleeves , including the new one for "Fake Happy" , are Dr. Indie originals, but I'm sure that goes without saying.  Again ;debuts in Green, Hot moves in Blue , and song's peak in ()

HOT List: This week, I'm adding three songs that are currently charting on the Alternative charts. Two of them are songs I started noticing more for the Music Videos and one because it sounds pretty good. First is Bishop Briggs - Dream. I haven't charted anything from her yet, but this one is just pleasant enough to find it's way onto my top 50. The Music Video; with it's distinguished looking band members is one of the main reasons I'm showing it tonight. The next act are no strangers to my charts . It's Franz Ferdinand with their latest single "Always Ascending'. If you dig the band, then you gotta dig this new song. 'Nuff said. The last add, is another band I have not had much use for until now. They are the Indie Rock band, Dreamers with their new single "Painkiller". The intro isn't the strongest thing I've heard, but the guitar action , more than makes up for that slight glitch in the song. I'm still not 100% sold on this one, but time, and spins on my foobar, will tell?

It's almost time for my 2017 year end countdown. I think I'll be able to list a good 150 songs, but I will try to squeeze in a few more top 10 hits before the month is up. This week two more of those big hits of 2017 belong to K-pop band BLACKPINK for their pop smash ;"As If It's Your Last" and Fitz and The Tantrums, whose good feel, song, "Walking Target" replaces the last; good feel song, from the Neon Trees.  Also the top 4 songs are all from female acts. It's going to be a race to the finish, as Metal goes against Indie pop in the weeks to come. This week's three debuts are all fresh off the HOT LIST and again from all sides of music. We have Pop Diva Demi Lovato ,coming in at #50 with "Sexy Dirty Love". Symphonic Metal from Kobra and The Lotus with "Light Me Up" . I'm pretty sure I'll have this song in my top 20, before the actual Active chart even gets it to Top 30? And my highest debut, also ;my favorite song of the week, which makes a quick debut from Franz Ferdinand. It seems we sometimes, have to debut songs early on , because the actual alt charts are rather confused with what's Alt and what's pop, so "Always Ascending" gets the "Screw Alt Charts, this is a great song" debut of the week. HOT List: This week's HOT List begins with a new single from The Neighborhood called "Scary Love". A very good song with a bit of darkpop vibe to it. I hope it actually charts on Alt Too. Song #2 is a new Wombats' single. "Turn" is ok, but I really dug "Lemon To Knife Fight". side form having some great melodic guitar vibes, I thought his accent really worked for the lyrics as well. My last this week belongs to White Reaper for their song "Judy French". I've seen this one on a few of our own personal lists here and I think it rocks proper. Plus I actually thought Alexandra Daddario was moonlighting as a guitarist for the band? Imagine how happy that made me? She isn't but the MV is still smoking hot.
