Is the hot 100 formula currently sales/75, airplay/1000 and streaming/18000 or whatever? Anybody here know? Please don't snub me this time simmnfierzig uses sales/750, airplay/900000, streaming/160000. It's like George's formula/(aproximately) 102. I don't remember exactly the formula George used. |

These viral songs get next to nothing in airplay, especially on the stations I listen to. Thus they don't bother me. Plus their shelf life is incredibly short, as they tend to die off very quickly. Also, not all viral songs are bad. I actually really enjoy Black Beatles and Gangnam Style. So there's definitely good stuff out there. |

Bad news ... Eh. I'm not mad. These viral songs get next to nothing in airplay, especially on the stations I listen to. Thus they don't bother me. So there's definitely good stuff out there. I'm not mad because when they get airplay or not since radio stations are in control of that side of the equation or the song gets bought since that means the buyer actually likes the song. What I have an issue with is when a meme or video is involved (the latter in the case of the controversial Tunnel Vision one) so that the song get streamed and becomes more successful for reasons other than people actually liking the song. I do agree that the two songs you mentioned are exceptional counterexamples to some pretty *rappy ones (that includes Look at Me! and Cash Me Outside (#cashmeoutside)). |

It's not getting much airplay at all, and more so it's common for albums tracks to get spins from a station or two, especially if the current single is either on the decline in that area, or doesn't fit the station's format. |

Adele needs to be burned at stake for murdering that innocent Water Under The Bridge. She killed it, lit it on fire, and abandoned it in the River Lea. Seriously though, Adele took probably the best song on 25 and killed it. She released it and didn't even bother promoting it. A grammy performance would of knocked it out of the park, but of course Adele has never been trustworthy with promoting any singles on her albums after the first or second. My chart is based on what I like. She didn't kill the song. Just because she didn't promote it she didn't need to. She already sold enough albums of 25, most people weren't gonna stream it or purchase the single. I think it's amazing it made the Top 40 . If another single was to be released it would need a remix with a feature in order for people to purchase it. A lot of artists are starting to release E.Ps because an album of 10 or 12 songs gets expensive when sales are down so much. I prefer a couple big hits and move on to the next record. Too many fillers on most albums. The reason physical singles were great back in the day was they usually had a non album track or remix as a bside. So it helped them sell. I used to purchase more singles in the 80s and 90s than full albums. |
