Starships was the first song that was initially related to that record, as it's chart run was particularly impressive for a song that never went higher than #5. Love Yourself then broke that record last year.
Now with Closer breaking it, and at the same tie holding the "Most weeks at top 10 overall" record (32 weeks, tied with How Do I Live), it's pretty much meaningless again.

Most consecutive weeks in the top 10 after debuting inside that region. I actually knew that. I wanted to know what "stands at 32 weeks" means? It holds at 32 weeks. Though if it's the "Starships record", didn't Closer surpass the previous record since it ties the overall Top 10 record holder (How Do I Live), which didn't debut in the Top 10? The Starships record is specifically weeks on the chart in the top 10 since debut without ever falling out. So "stands at 32 weeks" is probably inaccurate and should be "moves up to 32 weeks with this song" or whatever.

How Do I Live's run in the top 10 is possibly more impressive in that it didn't debut in the top 10 had to climb there.

I don't think "Closer" will be forgotten, but it just doesn't feel iconic like some of the other humongous hits of the decade (like "Uptown Funk", "Rolling In The Deep", "Tik Tok", etc.)

Personally, I think it's going to be up there with the top songs of the decade. It's just so massive.

"Nicki Minaj this week pulls ahead of Aretha Franklin as the female artist with the most Hot 100 hits. Minaj has amassed 76 hits on Billboardβs flagship chart, compared to 73 for the Queen of Soul. Thatβs an impressive achievement, though it comes with a big asterisk. Franklin was the lead (or co-lead) artist on all 73 of her chart hits. Minaj has been the lead artist on only 32 of hers. She had a featured credit on the other 44."
While her lead success is impressive this is the most fraud record in history. Considering how the industry is now legitimate records will be broken. I don't think Aretha cares but still she must shake her head.

Don't worry, Taylor Swift will pass Aretha with her next album too.

Actually, I would argue that Glee's and so to be set by Drake records for overall and those by a male artist Hot 100 songs (note that I don't use the word hits so lightly) would be as dubious as well. Particularly, Glee's.

I think someone on this forum said this, but "Closer" will be one of those songs that people will remember 10 years from now as "that one song that was really popular in high school". It won't define our generation though.

Particularly, Glee's. Well, the Glee one is terrible because it's so many different singers. It's not even a band like The Eagles where they had a few lead singles; the Glee stuff has different solo artists. They shouldn't all count the same. But yeah, this "featured artists" thing needs to go.
