Whitney's magnum opus is the only thing left that I'd want to win. Come thruuuu for me please by the good grace of Dolly Parton.

Didja know? - When the movie studio started promoting 8 Mile, Lose Yourself didn't exist yet, so they were using Cleanin' Out My Closet for the trailers. The studios wanted to feature that song in the movie, but Em felt the song was too personal, so he wrote LY while in character mode. - The instrumental was around for a year before Em decided to use it. He had the producers mold the beat around his vocals. - LY is one of seven songs on this rankdown to be recorded for use in a feature film/soundtrack. Of those seven songs, three were nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars (LY, Happy, and You Light Up My Life); LY and YLUML won their noms. - LY is the only Academy Award-winning song to not be performed at the award ceremony since it has been televised. The Academy did want him to perform there, but they wanted him to do the 'family-friendly' version, while Em wanted to do the original version and let the censors bleep him where necessary. - Weird Al did a parody of this called Couch Potato. Em let him do the parody but wouldn't give permission for Al to make a video or release it as a single, b/c Em was worried about his image. Al thought that was weird considering Em himself was known for making fun of people in his own music videos. (sidebar, technically Al could have done whatever he wanted; parodies fall under fair use. Al is just really nice and always asks the artist for permission out of respect.) - This is the last song in the rankdown to have a 35 ranking.

I am surprised that both Smooth and Yeah! are in the top 3 based on some of the other songs on here. I do think Whitney should be #1 and am rooting for that one but I do like the other two

Cynthia said earlier that the #1 song has only 1 person ranking it at #1 and #2 song has 8.
I feel like "Smooth" could be #1 and "I Will Always Love You" could be #2 based on these hints.

- I. AM SO. MAD! Didja know? - Leo and quirkyfarang can kiss my buttocks! No I'm just kidding, it's not that serious. But I was sooooooo excited because Usher had this in the bag the entire time and then out of nowhere come Leo and quirky with their shitty ass ratings messing everything up! Your ratings are so off that even my box and whisker chart has you two marked as outliers! I did think it was amusingly ironic that gravey was worried about catching flack if he ranked Leo's #1 song badly when in fact, it was Leo who was partly responsible for gravey's song not winning the rankdown. - Not only did Leo and quirky knock this song out of the top, but Az sealed its fate even further with a barely-above-median rank that pushed it down to #3. (Az ranked both of the final two songs higher.) A #2 ranking from Narwhals would not save Yeah! from feeling the burn of defeat. - Much like Mariah and WBT, Yeah! came about because LA Reid listened to what was thought to be Usher's finished album and concluded that the song lacked a momentous hit. The journey to get this hit was not nearly as simple as Mariah's, however. Several months before being asked to help out with Confessions, Jive (Usher's label at the time) commissioned Lil Jon to do some tracks for rapper Mystikal. Mystikal only used two of the fifteen beats Jon came up with, so Jon thought he was free to work with any of the unused ones and used one of them to create something for Usher. However, without Jon's knowledge, Jive had given that particular arrangement to Petey deleted, who used it for Freak-a-Leek. When Jon handed over his finished Usher track the label spotted the mistake, but refused to relinquish the track so that Usher could keep it because Freak-a-Leek was already out and gaining traction in the South. Jon had to rework the Usher track and use a new instrumental. - Even after all that effort just to get the song done, Yeah! wasn't intended to be the lead single. Burn was going to be first, while Yeah! was just a teaser for fans. There was hesitation on both ends: everyone wanted an event single but couldn't decide if Burn or Yeah! would be that event for Ush. Usher himself had his doubts about Yeah, but Lil Jon pretty much settled the matter when he leaked the song to radio stations in December 2003 and it took off like wildfire. It was so huge that they not only switched to Yeah as lead, they pushed the album release date back a bit - which normally indicates struggling singles or fear of floppage on the horizon, but for Usher it just increased anticipation as Yeah continued to dominate the airwaves. When Confessions finally dropped, Usher moved over 1 million in one week - to date one of only two r&b artists to do so (Whitney being the other). Yeah would be second only to We Belong Together on Billboard's decade-end chart. - At the time Yeah! dropped, it was the lead single to his fourth album, following two 6x-platinum and 4x-platinum certified smashes. It would be his eighth Hot 100 hit (seventh as a lead artist) to reach the top 3, and mark his tenth year in the industry when A-list artists are usually hitting brick walls at that point. Pretty sweet way to cap off a decade, huh?

I'm not going to do random facts on #2 and #1 because at this point I think we know all there is to know about those two songs...except, of course, which one took over this rankdown. Did Whitney snatch Usher's crown, or did gravey's 34 manage to screw IWALY out of the top spot after all? The suspense!

Reason I dont like IWALY and never did. I can't stand Whitneys voice in that song and how she is screaming IIIII WIIILLLL ALWAYYYYS LOVE YOUUUUU. I find it so annoying and it hurts my ears. It also makes me depressed when I hear it. (Same reason I dont like Hello at all)
Obviously this is just my opinion.
I do LOVE I Wanna Dance With Somebody. So yeah, I dont hate Whitney at all, since I enjoy songs from her a lot, like IWDWS, but IWALY has always been annoying to me.

One final trivia moment before the big reveal
- My #1-#4 images have a cute white border around them b/c I forgot to fix my edge-glow settings until song #5, but it actually looked kind of nice so I kept it
- Only four songs in this entire rankdown did not receive Grammy nominations: Something About the Way You Look Tonight, Macarena, One Dance, and Shape of You* (SOY will be eligible for 2018).
- WFL is the only song in the top 10 that didn't receive a ROTY nomination, but Irreplaceable is the only song in the top 10 that didn't win a Grammy at all, kind of. (Irreplaceable's parent album B'Day won r&b album the year before Irreplaceable's nomination).
