This does remind me of an interesting trivia about the music video. Not only does the song samples Patti LaBelle, they also had her appear in the music video playing as Kelly Rowland's mother.

Didja know? - Uptown Funk took over half a year to finish because Mark and Bruno are both notorious perfectionists; Ronson even lost his lunch over it. The plan was for him to record his guitar riff before Jeff Bhasker left to work on another project. By lunch, Mark still didn't have it done. The crew went to go eat and Ronson threw up three times and fainted in the restaurant; Jeff had to carry him back to the studio. He finally got it right - on take 82. - The line "gotta kiss myself I'm so pretty" is inspired by boxer Larry Holmes, who said those words in an interview and then kissed his own own arms to make his point. - This is the last of five songs to have a st. dev. over 10. That it placed this high even with such a polarizing nature speaks to how much the people who love this song, really love this song. - Like two other recently released, high-standard-deviation songs (SOY and Closer) Mark and Bruno had to go back and give songwriting credits (this time to the Gap Band for their song "Oops Upside Your Head") to avoid a lawsuit (Trinidad James already received credit for the All Gold Everything sample upfront). Other people also noted some similarities to the theme song from a 1980s BBC children's wildlife series called The Really Wild Show.

Didja know? - Ne-Yo first wrote this as a potential country song, with Shania Twain and Faith Hill in mind. - Ne-Yo got the the famous "to the left, to the left" intro from watching his aunt ditch a cheating boyfriend. "I remember him coming to the house, and him looking in the closet and going, 'Where's my this, where's my that?' and she said, 'Oh, in the box to the left of the closet. Everything you own is in that box and everything I bought is over here.'". - Stargate had to redo the production and resubmit the song because Beyonce didn't like the first drumbeat they had on it. - An elementary teacher friend of mine is such a notoriously big fan of Beyonce's that when she once asked her students in which direction does the less-than sign point, the class immediately started singing "to the left, to the left, less-than points to the left, to the left" lolol

"Irreplaceable" is such a jaaaaam. To the left, to the left is too iconic.

Didja know? - Mariah used the wedding dress from her first marriage to Tommy Mottola for this video. She wanted to set it on fire but Brett Ratner, the video director, thought that would be a bit much. I guess that's why she self-directed the I Don't video, she didn't have to worry about anyone telling her no then - Mariah is the first artist to hold Billboard's song of the decade more than once, as One Sweet Day was the song of the decade for the '90s and WBT received that honor for the 2000s. Mariah also became the first woman in history to hold down the top two spots on the Hot 100 simultaneously, when Shake It Off jumped to #2 while WBT was still #1. - It's Like That and WBT were the first two singles of the album, but they were the last two songs to make the cut. Mariah had already finished the album, but just as they were getting ready to have a celebratory toast, LA Reid pulled back from clinking glasses and admitted that he felt she was missing that one big moment. He believed JD and Mariah could come up with some more magic and asked her to go to Atlanta for a brief session to come up with something else. - Mariah and Johnta Austin were drinking wine and riffing on the second verse, and one of the first things they came up with was "I didnβt mean it when I said I didnβt love you so, I need you baby and everybody knows, you without me is like Snoop without hos." JD laughed and then told them they needed to stop playing around and get to work. - Mariah didn't actually think the song was 'done' when she first sang it for Reid. She was in the studio working on the bgvs and ad-libs when Reid showed up unexpectedly with his "money people." Mariah never lets other people in the studio when she's recording, so she just started wailing WHEN YOU LEFT I LOST A PART OF ME an octave higher because she knew she wouldn't have another chance for LA to hear the record. He loved it and told her that was exactly what they were looking for. Always Be My Baby (which Mariah also co-wrote with JD) is one of Reid's was one of his favorite Mariah songs, and to him, WBT was them revisiting that moment.

And missing our top 5 by a razor's edge... Didja know? - Xavier Dolan, the video director, had Adele use an old flip phone because he doesn't like filming modern cars or phones - he thinks they're "anti-narrative" and end up taking you out of the story. If he puts one in his work it makes him feel like he's filming a commercial. - When filming the video Xavier needed Adele to cry, so she asked him to play Jealous (a song about a child watching his father walk out on his family) by Labrinth. - There was a six-month gap between the writing of the verses and the chorus. - "It's so typical for me to talk about myself, I'm sorry" is Adele's most favorite lyric that she's written. - Hello misses the top 5 of the rankdown by only two points. With its elimination, we only have one song from this decade, and that song is now six years old - proving true Devil Marlena Nylund's earlier theory about recency bias having an effect on people's rankings.

I underranked my #19 by like 6-8 positions so I'll be happy with any of my first four winning.

Didja know? - Leona Lewis recorded WFL first, but Leona wanted Trouble to be the lead single for her album Glassheart so Calvin gave WFL to Rihanna. - The demo was also offered to Nicole Scherzinger at some point, but Nicole turned it down outright because she was busy at the time and wanted to take a break from dance tracks. - Part of the video was filmed in Bangor, Ireland, but the owner of the land Rihanna was using was shocked and dismayed to find her half-naked. He asked them to leave the field because he deemed it "inappropriate"; they agreed and then finished filming in Belfast. I apparently need to watch this video again b/c I don't recall her being all that naked in this one. - Rihanna bookended the Hot 100 when Talk That Talk re-entered the chart at #100 while WFL was sitting at #1. Flo Rida also did this in 2008 when Low was in the top spot while Elevator held down the bottom. I haven't been able to find anything else regarding this stat so I think these are the only two times an artist has ever done that, but I'm not 100% sure.

I just can't see a non-diva at #1. It would be so... not-Pulse.
I could see #1 being We Found Love? Lose Yourself is #5. Yeah could very well be #2 (or #1). Smooth #3 and IWALY #4? I dunno

female artists are so underrated And I can say the same for some male artists. Although regarding female artists, I agree that JoJo is underrated. So is Dido.

Holy crap, I was so sure WBT was gonna be #1. Maybe Smooth DOES have a chance. Then again, it's up against Whitney.

female artists are so underrated Not on this site, considering how Rihanna, Britney and whatever female pop artist win almost every poll they are in.
