Great job, Cynthia! I knew it was going to be a cool presentation, just as I knew Azriel's was gonna be cool as well :) I told Cynthia I was sure I was gonna have a few outliers. Being Macarena the obvious one. And yeah, I'm proud of my love to the ORIGINAL version (miles better than the remix). It was a huge hit back home. I used to lead the choreo at birthday parties with friends and relatives and I was ecstatic when I saw it become a worldwide phenomenon. Hispanic music doesn't have that luxury ;) plus it was the best representative of the choreo dance craze that happened back home and in Latin America (we had dances of puppy, monkey, gorilla, Carrapico's Tic Tic Tac, Asereje, Axe Bahía, etc, etc). And I believe the song itself was a crisp combination of flamenco, disco, dance elements. Anyway. As a guy born in the 1970s, I have a soft spot for oldies. I certainly ranked Debbie's and Olivia's higher than most, and I knew I was gonna be in the minority. Still, I really like YLUML, as saccharine as it is, it's a simple melody, sung in a heartfelt manner. I think it did represent a style of music from the past that may not be popular anymore but I sometimes miss tbh (like in the 00s when so many songs were about butts and clubs) Physical is a jam! Gay friendly and subtly sexual before Madonna :) and an image change that worked. Love the guitar sound that starts at the musical break, too. Still in my bottom half same as YLUML, but not deserving of bottom 5 at all imo. Elton's song is good, but I felt it was just there. Same as SYA. Thus both in my bottom 5

Didja know? - Boom Boom Pow was BEP's first #1 hit, though Fergie had already achieved three #1s as a solo artist. Such a situation - where a group reaches #1 after one of its members has already done so individually - has happened only three other times (Phil Collins/Genesis, John Waite/Bad English, and Matchbox 20/Rob Thomas). - Will.i.am told Rolling Stone that this song "has one note...[but] the structure has three beats in one song. It's not lyrics - it's audio patterns, structure, architecture. Lots of people say, 'Black Eyed Peas s--t is simple,' and I'll be like, 'No, fool, it's the most complex s--t you could fathom, that's the reason it works everywhere around the planet." Well all righty then ya arrogant motherfucker! - Some radio stations in the US and UK censored or altered the song's reference to satellite radio, and in the UK that 'edited' version is even the one that appears on the CD single. #shookones

I reaaaaaally like this presentation though, I wouldn't have had the patience to put every single ranking in that line thing, or that mocked-up Hot 100 table for the recap. Oh, these were actually super easy too, especially the first one. The process is just kind of tedious in the beginning, but it's mainly about setting up your Excel spreadsheet from the start to do most of the work for you in the end. I primarily worked from two sheets - in one I had songs in rows and participants in columns, and in the other I had songs in columns and participants in rows. In the first sheet I had the formulas for point sums, medians, and deviations in far right columns; Excel would automatically update the information every time I inserted a new column of rankdowns. When I started making my charts, I used the second sheet, because Excel recognized the column of names as a categorical Y-axis and inserted them for me. In both sheets I placed a filter on the top row, so I could sort the information by value as I moved along. Also, I only had to tinker around with the chart layout once. After you get it looking the way you like, you save it as a chart template, which you will use for everything else - nothing changes except the chart title and your background image. Copy each chart as a picture, paste into a word document, then right-click it in the word document and select save picture as. I did have to fire up photoshop to give each pic a white background layerr - I used 75% transparency in Excel only to realize that if someone has a dark screen background the pictures wouldn't show up as well or be easily legible. That wasn't a big deal though, just kind of annoying that I couldn't fix the issue in Excel or Word. The mocked up Hot 100 table is just all the song information copied and pasted into the appropriate columns/rows, filling in the outside cells with a bg color and the inside cells with white, and erasing some of the visible gridlines. I didn't realize until after fixing up the 'finished' chart that doing a bunch of partial charts was going to be too hard to get right but even then it's not so much that it can't be done, as it is that I didn't give myself enough time to do it.

Didja know? - One Dance is one of only three songs in this rankdown to not receive a video I know of - Candle in the Wind '97 doesn't have one, and You Light Up My Life only has some performance videos floating around (that was released before music videos were common so that's normal). - This was Drake's first #1 as a lead artist, both in the US and the UK. - This is the most-streamed song in Spotify history, with over one billion plays. - Drake finished One Dance in a week and released it quickly out of fear that it would leak, as Controlla did the month before. However, Drake and his team were unsure how OD would be received since it was so different from the rest of his music, so they put it and the more 'conventional' rap record Pop Style out at the same time just in case people didn't like the new sound. Pop Style is ass so I really don't know wth he was thinking lol

Didja know? - Pharrell entirely wrote and composed this song by himself, a fairly unusual occurrence for songs these days. - This is yet another first #1 for a lead artist, but Pharrell has appeared at the top three other times as a feature on Snoop's Drop It Like It's Hot, Ludacris' Money Maker, and Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines. - Pharrell is one of eight lead artists (or members of a lead-artist group) on this rankdown who established a career as a producer and/or songwriter for others either before or after becoming a star himself. The others: Puff Daddy, Will.i.am, Robin Thicke, Kanye West, Mark Ronson, Drake, and Ed Sheeran. (Big Honorable mention to Bruno, who is technically only the 'featured' act of Uptown Funk but essentially carries the song.)

Didja know? - Santana is named after the band's leader, guitarist Carlos Santana. Lowkey he kind of pulled an Adam Levine/Maroon 5 back in the day and had a lot of people forgetting or not knowing there were other people in this band. - In 2007 Carlos opened a Mexican restaurant chain in northern CA named Maria Maria. - The Product G&B might be one of the most dicked over 1-hit-wonder artists ever. After appearing on Maria Maria, Santana returned the favor by playing on a track for their would-be album Ghetto and Blues. But following two flop singles of their own, J Records decided to shelve the project, and the track with Santana never got released. To add insult to injury, Maria Maria won a Grammy for Best Pop Performance By a Duo or Group, but if you search Grammy.com's database for a list of Grammy winners, Product G&B is conspicuously absent from Maria Maria's artist credits (unlike other lead artists who appeared on the album). This is likely due to the submission - Smooth was the song that was submitted to (and won) the Pop Collaboration category, where a featured act could be nominated; from what I can tell of past winners and nominees, a submission to the Duo/Group category seems to require that you be a band or artists with equal billing. Thus the 'featured' designation kept G&B from being eligible. Worse than saying their career failed, it's almost like their career never even happened.

It will never not amuse me at how Happy makes many people so ironically mad. I don't think that was how it was supposed to work out y'all I have a friend who cannot stand this song. It's hilarious to me. I think it's just a cute little cartoon bop - overrated, sure, but too inoffensive for me to get upset that it lasted so long.

Yeah, I don't think Happy deserves the level of hatred it gets here. It's not the greatest song in the world, but I think it's a nice little retro throwback that I found enjoyable.

Didja know? - The original Candle In the Wind, written about Marilyn Monroe, first appeared as an album cut on Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in 1973. In 1987, Elton included it on the album Live In Australia; that version was released as a single and peaked at #6 in the US. - CITW 1997 was modified and re-released as a tribute to Princess Diana, who was a close friend of Elton's. - Elton only performed this song once, at Diana's funeral. Although he has continued to perform the original at concerts, he refuses to play the 1997 version again unless specifically asked to by William or Harry. He also never released this version on any album or compilation, and all artist royalties and label profits from the single were donated to the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. - CITW '97 holds quite a few records: to date, it is the only single in the US that has sold over 10 million copies; it is the only #1 Hot 100 debut to also be the #1 song for a year-end chart (1997); and it is the only song to appear in the top ten of the year-end Hot 100 chart for two years (#8 in 1998).

I accidentally omitted the word consecutive, but I didn't realize Leann did that too! (and neither did the site I was reading that I got that from, apparently) edit - I always marvel at how unnecessarily messy the HDIL releases were

ngl I am...curious as to why I have BBP ranked as high as I do. It's a mindless bop but did I really think it needed to be #12? preference revealer gives me some odd results sometimes.
