16. Give You What You LikeAVG: 15.97142857 MED: 16 STD: 8.07132074 FINAL SCORE: 11.31673869
Album: Avril Lavigne Songwriters: Avril Lavigne, Chad Kroeger, David Hodges Producers: Chad Kroeger, David Hodges"Give You What You Like" was the final single from Avril's self-titled fifth album. The track is a folk-pop song, a new venture for Lavigne, and discusses being lonley and combating that lonliness by offering sex. The track was not released worldwide. It was only a single to US Hot AC radio. Despite that, it did manage to peak at number 55 in South Korea when the album released. The track did receive a music video. Avril released a trailer to her VEVO account for the video, and a week later, the video dropped. However, for reasons unkown, the video has since been removed and the only versions of the video you can find feature clips of Fifty Shades of Grey for some reason, or are distorted/just pics or clips of the video on a loop while the song plays. The trailer is still available on Avril's VEVO. Fun fact about the recording sessions of this track: Avril was hungover for most of it! "One day I was hungover, tired, vulnerable, and didn't want to sing, but [Chad Kroeger] made me go in on 'Give You What You Like,' and do it anyway. The rawness of my vocals comes across in the song, which made it better. I'd have to do harmonies sometimes, and I'd start whining, and he'd want me to do 10 takes of vocals." #02 Kanenrá:ke#03 james518#04 toomuchboy#07 nick64#07 Leaf#07 Snowbeast#08 Au$tin#09 bat1990#09 YotamTS#10 bboat11#11 🅳🅸🆂🅲🅾#11 @mirza #11 @walker9 #13 Juan Carlos#13 †ealsünset#13 Rose "Payola" Nylund#15 ry4n#16 aerodynamite#16 .indulgecountry#16 born#17 Juanca#17 Normi#19 Doc Indie Party Rock#20 Libra#22 rgreen0625#24 austin#24 castleoblivion26#24 @quirkyfarang #26 alexcuse#26 Az Paynter#26 zaclord 🌈#27 CF15#27 Sambalada#29 Choco#30 Leo ✔{Songs Remaining}Complicated Don't Tell Me Girlfriend Here's to Never Growing Up I'm with You Keep Holding On Losing Grip My Happy Ending Nobody's Home Rock N Roll Sk8er Boi Smile What the Hell When You're Gone Wish You Were Here

The way she sings: 'When you turn off the lights, I get stars in my eyes' is so beautiful but the rest of the chorus isn't :/ at Rock N Roll being the highest AG track. I think it will come next and have the highest SD Edit: just noticed HTNGU exists as well could be it too

HTNGU please, that lackluster imitation of her older hits is so generic it's bad imo.
Rock N Roll though <3
No big losses for me
Aside from that, I'm hoping Wish You Were Here comes soon, never was crazy over it tbh.

"Give You What You Like" was one of my favorite finds from this rankdown. It is so unique, yet so good! For some reason I figured it wouldn't be well-received though for whatever reason, so my #10 rank might actually be a little bit lower than I meant to put it. Definitely a top-10-worthy song, imo.

Lost 2 more Top 10's :( Let Me Go & Give You What You Like both deserved much better, although I can't say I expected them to do better.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that "Let Me Go" was another one of my favorite discoveries in this rankdown! The production was pretty much perfect, and both vocalists sounded absolutely fantastic.

Between this and 'Let Me Go' we may as well just cancel the rest of this rankdown, because it's obvious Pulse has NO. F**KING. CLUE. :sip2:

"Tomorrow" I didn't submit any album tracks, but if I had, that definitely would have been one of them. I charted this as a "fifth single" following "Losing Grip", and this being the summer when I graduated high school gave what was already such a great song even more weight. LOL, surprises? What surprises? No surprises at all that I can see. I guess maybe that I continue to dodge a big loss bullet so far, maybe? (Watch that come at #20. )Oops! RIGGED TBQH But no, I knew this was coming eventually; the real surprise is that it was "Hot" first - I would've expected it to be "Rock N Roll". "Hot" went up at #4 for me for the simple fact that for quite a while after this album was released, it was a song I would gravitate to and have it on repeat. This even happened once fairly recently when I finally dusted the album off after several years. That is to say that it hasn't lost its allure at all. And hey, I consider it a small price to pay for seeing my last Bottom 10 go next. Whoa @ "Let Me Go" being out already - evidently the Kroeger hate is real. Gee, not much love for "Fall to Pieces" eh? Now all of my bottom 10 are gone! I also only lost one Top 10 (so far...) You're two songs behind me on this score, dear. Ah, "Give You What You Like". I never was able to stay invested in this one for terribly long; it initially bubbled under my chart in 2014 (at the time her first song to ever only get that far), but then it managed to break through for a month in 2015. But doing that much is why I placed it ahead of most of the other "not instantly recognized as being a single" songs. So, now my lowest remaining is #18. At this point I'm not sure any of the remaining rankings will really disappoint me all that much. Surprise? Maybe, but I'm perfectly content with however the remaining rankings end up. :)

It was great to hear again Innocence and appreciate it even further. It was a good rediscovery which I ranked at a surprising #11 as I really felt it was a powerful and believable delivery (much better than LMG ) Sad to see it at #19 :( GYWYL was another good discovery for me too. Ranked it at #17 but that section of my ranking was fluctuating a lot. Hot for example was up and down, but it's a guilty pleasure that stayed in my top 15 :)

20. Hot Wasn't terrible by any means. It had a decent pop rock beat, but Avril Lavigne songs have more substance. This seemed more like Taylor Swift trying to mimic Avril Lavigne.
19. Innocence decent ballad. Probably one of her weakest tho.
18. Let me Go feat. Chad Kroeger Now this is an epic ballad. It was the perfect vehicle to showcase both of their vocal abilities. So disappointed you guys didn't vote this one into the top 10. Five star song in my book.
17. Fall To Pieces Another epic song. This one really captured that top 40 rock sound of that year. It's a shame it didn't crack the top 100.
16. Give You What you Like This whole album was epic. I liked Avril returning to her rock roots. You could hear the Chad Kroeger vibe in the song writing

I'm still not over the Fall To Pieces indifference.
Avril's Under My Skin era might possibly be the biggest singles era on my personal chart ever with a combined total of over 40 weeks at #1 from four singles. My Happy Ending's 6 weeks at #1 was the shortest run on top of the four while the other three all had double-digit weeks (including one with a record-breaking 17 weeks at #1!). I didn't like the album as much as Let Go but the singles were all ACE!
I'd say The Best Damn Thing was her poorest performing album for singles by comparison, while Goodbye Lullaby is underrated as far as an Avril album can be, but it has its weaknesses.

Yasssss "17" is a jam! I wish that it could've been a single. <3 It really should have been. That era could've been bigger if... 1) The lead single had been released like a month or two before the album instead of seven. 2) The singles were better ordered, like so: -Rock N Roll (September) -Give You What You Like (January) -17 (May) -Let Me Go (September/October) -Here's to Never Growing Up (January/February) -Falling Fast/Hello Heartache (late spring/early summer with heavy focus on hot AC, since I'm sure she's going to be transitioning to that being her key format with the next album) Also, in the midst of all of that, "Hello Kitty" as an Asian exclusive and "Bad Girl" to rock formats.

15. Rock N RollAVG: 15.42857143 MED: 15 STD: 7.890000053 FINAL SCORE: 10.7946768
Album: Avril Lavigne Songwriters: Avril Lavigne, Peter Svensson, Rickard B Goransson, J Kash, Chad Kroeger, David Hodges Producers: Peter Svensson, Rickard B Goransson, Martin Johnson, Max Martin"Rock N Roll" was the second single from Avril's self-titled fifth album. It is an upbeat pop punk song about rebellion with production reminiscent of Avril's second single, "Sk8er Boi." In fact, in the intro of the music video, Avril heavily references "Sk8er Boi" when someone calls her to explain the lyrics of "Sk8er Boi" in which Avril's reply was "He was a boy, and she was a girl, I can't make it anymore obvious." The music video is also one of Avril's quirkiest complete with celebrity cameos from Danica McKellar, Billy Zane, and Sid Wilson, an attack from a bear shark hybrid, baby throwing, intimidating lobsters, and references to the 1995 film Tank Girl and the music video to Guns N' Roses's "November Rain." The track received generally positive reviews from critics while the video received mixed reviews. The track was all over the place in terms of success. It only peaked at number 91 on the Hot 100, but was a number one smash in South Korea and Taiwan as well as peaking at number five in Japan, even placing at number 75 on the year-end chart for Japan in 2013 where the track went gold. #02 Libra#04 alexcuse#04 Doc Indie Party Rock#05 CF15#06 bat1990#08 austin#08 Normi#09 .indulgecountry#09 †ealsünset#10 Az Paynter#10 nick64#10 @mirza #10 Au$tin#12 bboat11#13 Leo ✔#15 james518#15 Juan Carlos#15 rgreen0625#15 @walker9 #16 Juanca#17 Sambalada#17 YotamTS#19 Kanenrá:ke#19 @quirkyfarang #20 castleoblivion26#20 born#20 Snowbeast#21 ry4n#22 Rose "Payola" Nylund#27 aerodynamite#27 🅳🅸🆂🅲🅾#28 Choco#28 toomuchboy#29 Leaf#30 zaclord 🌈{Songs Remaining}Complicated Don't Tell Me Girlfriend Here's to Never Growing Up I'm with You Keep Holding On Losing Grip My Happy Ending Nobody's Home Sk8er Boi Smile What the Hell When You're Gone Wish You Were Here

And there it is. Actually, it seems like this got a little more love than I would've expected it to. The story's pretty much the same as for "Hot" - irresistible, great for repeat; this song has just held up that well. (On my chart, this dueled with "Work Bitch" for #1 for a solid month, which was not for nothing. ) I didn't have it in me to put it at #1 here, but it sure would have been worthy of it. The video's alright - I can live without it.
