TTWLG passes 80M streams on Spotify - her first song to do so. Together Again (which appears to have received a good bump in streams due to the pandemic) is right behind it and will overtake it soon.

never even knew she could do a split lol Given her freaky, kinky, baby-making songs, I'm sure she's been that flexible for years and that it's helped her out for more than just dancing.

It came out in the U.S. on April 24th, but yeah, love this album from the very start. It was the second album I got after "The Velvet Rope". I remember the girls and I at middle school were listening to it in class, including the sex tracks. Lol 🤣🤣🤣

I checked AFY out of the library so many times in 2001.
Even though I didn't get my own copy until a few years later, I wore the public copy OUT!
It was so nice to get to experience at least one proper Janet era before the Superbowl incident and I will forever be greatful.

About the "All For You" album. I always thought they should have went with "Come On Get Up" as a single. "Son Of A Gun" was good. Kind of quirky and the "clouds in my coffee" section actually made me laugh. It was different.. I did like it but it kind of killed the era didn't it?

Charli XCX named her as a reference for her new album. The music scene needs a helping of Janet!

"Come On Get Up" was going to be the fourth single but between Janet shortening the tour after 9/11 and Virgin losing tons of money on Glitter, the era was ended prematurely. I don't think Son of a Gun itself killed the era, but being only a minor hit probably didn't help.

I don't think Son of a Gun itself killed the era, but being only a minor hit probably didn't help. The tour stopped Oct 29th and resumed in the middle of January. I think it was like you said in between Virgin losing money and noticing "Son Of A Gun" underperforming a lot by Janets standards. They spent a decent amount of budget on "SOA" My personal opinion is if "SOA" did well we would have got a forth single but Virgin probably didn't want to spend anymore on the project just in case it didn't pay off. Looking at the tour dates for "All For You" it did very well but wasn't a sellout. Many many dates had between 2-4,500 seats to be filled. However she did play multiple cities in the same areas.

I loved the AFY era. I wish it was a little longer. Part of the issue with this era besides 9/11 and Glitter impacts, was there was not enough R&B material to sustain urban radio and its listeners. With previous eras, one of the first two Janet’s first two singles was always a heavy R&B jam. AFY (song) is certainly built on R&B, but in 2001 it was considered a pop song as was STCML.
SOAG and it’s remixes were great, but by the time it came along, urban radio lost interest. And Top 40 thought the song was a little too urban (maybe forced—the Diddy remix). Despite the album not having enough material to appeal to her urban audience, I think AFY and STCML were the perfect 1-2 punch single combination for pop dominance (which she achieved the first 4-5 months of release). I would have released COGU and Feel so right as 3rd and 4th singles. Just go for a perfect pop record. It would have fit very well for the times.
It’s funny because Damita Jo had great urban material, but they released all the pop songs (minus I want You). I was like dammit Janet you got it backwards!

AFY had several more potential singles on it. I remember wanting Trust A Try lmao. Not anymore, while I still love it, but some of the poppier ballads maybe could have worked? It’s been a while. I might have to revisit the album.

I really wish she would have gone 6 singles deep like her prior projects.

I really wish she would have gone 6 singles deep like her prior projects. That was the plan (going 6 singles deep). According to her website at the time, the next singles were going to be Come On Get Up, Trust A Try and When We Ooo. Even without 9/11 and Glitter, I'm not sure how far those singles would have gone. Although WWO is probably top 10 Janet for me. As someone pointed out above, there wasn't much R&B potential on the album. It always seemed like an overcorrection to the sales of The Velvet Rope. But with pop sales exploding at the time, I don't blame her for going in this direction.

From a thematic and musical perspective, ‘All for You’ is analogous to Rihanna’s Loud while The Velvet Rope is analogous to Rihanna’s Rated R. I don’t intend to proclaim anything about quality or which two albums are better. This is just an analogy based on the style and theme of the eras and how they contrast their immediate predecessor.
I enjoyed ‘All tor You’ in all its fluffiness: It’s light but not trivial. If they did seek to overcorrect the sales of The Velvet Rope—something that doesn’t seem right from a conventional point of view because it still sold well and was a success by any measure—with ‘All for You,’ Janet proved that a lighter album can be just as good and substantial as a dark and thorny one.

I've also seen it in other pop stars as well, with their follow up albums seemingly being lighter and more jovial than their predecessor. Stripped (dark) -----> B2B (light) Blackout (dark) -----> Circus (light) Erotica (dark) ------> Bedtime Stories (light) American Life (dark) -----> COAD (light)

Both came from a period of personal turmoil, and the next album conveys healing, making peace with the past and regaining trust and finding love again. Probably one of my favorite tropes for an artist's discography, as it's so beautiful and rewarding to follow their journey.

I'm surprised no one here has mentioned the insane auction that will be happening this May, where Janet will be giving away a huge chunk of her life belongings, from music video costumes to performance outfits, jewelry, furniture, and school report cards. You can access the catalogue through this website: www.julienslive.com/m/view-auctions/catalog/id/378?items=12Also, this video explains why she's decided to do this. Definitely worth watching if you're intrigued and if you happen to be interested in doing some bidding.

damn..it's like 115 pages of them!! She has great taste in fashion and style, tho. Saw saw some really cute designer shoes on there. If it was me, it would be super hard for me to depart with some of those items, especially my report cards from school.

There’s also a drawing by Janet of her legendary, multitalented big sister La Toya. It’s cute. I love their relationship, btw, Toy has been an eternal inspiration for Janet. ☺️

I am absolutely going to participate in the auction. Have yet to look through the entire catalog or purchased any of the books. But some of the fans always celebrate Janet's birthday, so we'll definitely have a Zoom party next month.
Back to AFY era...
I loved the singles, except for SOAG. The video is AMAZING. But the song itself is not it.
I wish I saw this tour live. She did 2 shows in Fort Lauderdale, but I can't remember why I didn't go. :(
It's a shame that the singles and the tour suffered due to the Virgin buyout and 9/11. I agree that WWO, TAT and COGU were the right choices for the next singles.
What I do notice now 20 years later is that the album does have a lot of highlights and I try not to focus so much on the lack of singles released or tour cancellations. I loved MTV Icon (I could watch this special on the regular and never get tired of it), her style/wardrobe throughout the eras and the live performances.

@ some of the items up for auction. I can't imagine having so much money you'd spend hundreds on Janet's old homework slips..
