I cried when Janet cried seeing her brothers on that mural in Gary. I felt that…and Missy’s tweet here sums up why
I love the Jackson’s, Janet, Michael, ALL OF THEM, and always will. they are my earliest memory of loving music

I love Kelly Clarkson but just saw this and it was Kelly talking about her own kid and interviews herself. Lmao she must have been nervous

This! Janet Jackson helped invent an entire genre of R&B. Janet Jackson completely changed the sound of pop/R&B crossover. Janet Jackson launched a million clones in the 80's/90's. Janet Jackson challenged her brother and made him completely change up his sound. Janet Jackson set the template for pretty much all pop/R&B artists going forward. Give this woman all the damn flowers.

Even after all these years, you can see the hurt she still feels from the experience with James.
No mention ofDiff'rent Strokes, but given how she didn't enjoy her time on Fame, maybe that was enough to cover that whole acting period.

We are about to be taught a lesson in what society did to her, methinks. It may be savage. I think she will get a nice reappraisal after this.

Friendly reminder that “When I Think of You” is one of the best singles of the 80’s and deserves just as much recognition and awareness and streams as Whitney’s “I Wanna Dance”.

I wonder why the doc listed James and Rene as "boyfriends" and not as "ex-husbands"..

#JanetJacksonDoc number 1 trending on Twitter right now 😭 It was trending at #1 10 minutes into the first hour! I’m shocked at everything she revealed. I had a feeling it would be music-focused with sprinkles of her personal experiences, but damn was I wrong! We’re at the third hour and we haven’t even gotten out of the 80s yet. Seeing how the RN tour came together and the massive success was delicious to watch. It made people remember, yes Janet was THAT bitch. She paved the way for these girls after her. I wonder if they’re going to skip over the Janet era and focus on Michael’s drama of the 90s. The Janet era is just as important as RN imo. Can’t wait. Nah. The Janet era. is one of the highlights of her career. It's where the world first saw her as a sexually confident woman. I think there will be a balance between discussing the Janet. era and Michael.

I had no idea she felt so deeply for James. I always just thought of the marriage as a dumb decision she made as a teenager…

I loved night 1 of this. Can't wait for night 2 which I guess covers 90s - now. I'm surprised this isn't on something like Netflix or HBO Max. I would rather not have to FF through commercials. I guess it's indicative of how she's been treated since 04 which is sad. Or maybe Lifetime/A&E gave her more money, who knows. Regardless, various songs from her catalog, heavily from Control through Velvet Rope, stay in my playlists.

"Black Cat" is THAT sawng, particularly in the context of her comments about being attracted to drug addicts. The fact that she did a full-out rock song and it went to #1 is so badass. Janet’s official YouTube is adding The Knowledge music video in 20 minutes, labeled as a premiere. Please let this be the start of the restoration of her digital channels.

Finally saw Part 1 and it was incredible. Seeing that footage Rene shot, her problems with James Debate, everybody debunking the rumors of the secret child, and the fight she had with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis over You Need Me. No wonder why it only ended up as a B-Side. The early footage of her as a child was so precious.
Part 2 tonight is going to be juicy!

I loved seeing and reminiscing on how DIVERSE Janet’s audience was. Look at that crowd during the RN tour footage — Janet wasn’t just attracting the gays, or blacks or whites, EVERYONE was there: straight, gay, all races, young, old.

It was simultaneously too much and not enough. All of that behind the scenes footage that Rene filmed, I could watch that stuff for a month straight and still not have enough. That's how I felt too watching part 1 of the documentary. It was so much and yet not enough at the same time. I'm craving for more!!! lol. Also, damn Janet has such intense feelings about James/their romance still, I mean their relationship still has such a profound effect on her after all these (almost 40!) years... I had no idea. They did make an adorable couple. I am LOVING her continued renaissance. Finally. Give the Queen of Pop all the justice she deserves!

Yeah, I can’t fathom her glossing over that era, especially after she expressed more than once in the first half not wanting people to support her music solely because of her last name.

How did I forget she was the first woman nominated for Producer of the Year at the Grammys. She wasn't. Wendy & Lisa were nominated with Prince 5 years prior. They were members of The Revolution and not given individual accreditation for the nomination; the same goes for Lauren Christy of The Matrix. The Grammys acknowledge Janet as the first woman (and one of only six women) to be nominated individually in that category.

The Grammys acknowledge Janet as the first woman (and one of only six women) to be nominated individually in that category. That's a fair distinction, though in a sense Janet/Jam/Lewis were as much of a team as Prince/Revolution. Regardless Wendy & Lisa were nominated and don't merit being looked over. That isn't to discredit Janet, but to make sure those other women get their due.
