RIP CTTR

Bon Appetit is being released this Friday, it features Migos, and apparently they already have a music video shot and ready to go. Maybe Katy went back through her track list and realized political pop isn't her forte, the song looks like a return to form, classic tasteless Katy Perry. Looking back at the chart, the song could mark a big debut on the Hot 100, airplay is almost guaranteed to be huge because Perry always has a deal with the radio stations, plus the Migos feature/video should give it a big streaming boost. But looking back at CTTR, a big debut is not always guaranteed which makes the song tricky. Not much we can say or do right now, just gotta wait until Friday and see how well the first day numbers rack up.

It appears Shape of You has finally peaked at Radio if today's kworb update is any indication. If the trends continue, That's What I Like would surpass it sometime next week, probably in about 5 days.

It has been falling at Rhythmic for awhile now, and it's peaking at Top 40. Is there a format where it's still posting significant gains? Hot AC I guess.

^In Pop, TWIL it lost spins but gained audience. In HAC and Urban it gained on both fronts. In Rhythmic it lost on both fronts. In Urban AC it pretty much stayed even. So quite a mixed bag, but Urban seems to be fueling most of its daily gain.

Is The Cure going to go up? or will it just fall hard and fast like Perflop Illusion.
Also, I know that the lower down songs are harder to predict but how's it looking for Dirt On My Boots? It hit 62 this week and fell hard but that might have been just because it got clobbered by Kendrick so is there any chance that it will stay on the Hot 100 in the aftermath of the Kendrick songs falling?

I find both that and the existence of the two remixes rather ironic, considering his initial reasoning for not including any collaborations on the album. Unless they were artists who heard the song and initially wanted to hop in with him on it. But at this rate, between those remixes, and the Nile Rodgers + Anderson Paak. + Disclosure tease, we might get a deluxe re-issue of the album at some point.

I'm still really baffled why they just can't put it on 0.69 discount. It's gonna nearly double the sales number or at least give it a 1.5X boost. Last Friday Night did it, When I Was Your Man did it, Starboy did it. Is there some politics in terms of label or artists vying for no.1 on hot 100 or they just do whatever they want? Do they watch the charts every week and are confident enough that it's gonna reach no.1 without a discount?

Eh. Releasing this the last day of the chart week for streams isn't going to do much, especially if it isn't even being promoted.

Fun trivia, thanks to appearance on the Kendrick Lamar album,
U2 joins Michael Jackson, Madonna and Weird Al Yankovic as the only artists to log top 40 hits in the 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s

Bon Appetit's released. But it's not on iTunes top 100 yet. It's probably yet another song that misses 2-3 hours of the full tracking week

Not on the iTunes bar top 100 yet tho. Open iTunes. Change the country to the US. Go into the top songs chart (make sure it's all genre) and go down. There is no simpler way to explain it.

Bon Appétit musically sounds like a bigger hit than CTTR but lyrically and reception-wise I think it could flop again (like Perfect Illusion/The Cure situation). If she's angling for a high first week peak then she should really release a music video and/or a lyric video immediately. Or it's gonna be hard to catch on

Bieber Fever! I'm the One easily debuts top 10 on iTunes and Despacito has a healthy lead on top, this feels like Cold Water vs. Let Me Love You all over again woah

(Louis Armstrong first began having hits in the 1920s so about 60+ years)

Now that Kendrick scored a #1 hit, I hope we can see mainstream breakthroughs of Chance and Logic next. That would be awesome.

He does, although just barely! "I Want You Back" made the top ten the last week of December, 1969. If Billboard had been freezing the last chart of the year then (as they did from 1976-1992) then he would have lost the 60s. It was a close call in the 00s and 10s also: "You Rock My World" was his only top ten in the 00s and it spent one week there at #10. "Love Never Felt So Good" spent only one week in the top ten (at #9) for the 10s. But they all still count and it's still very impressive!
