That’s basically the whole album still. I don’t understand how it’s messy when unlocked versions are remixes of the originals. How dare you leave off Billions smh? Because it's messy, to ME. I get that you clearly love the album a lot, but I'm still entitled to my opinion, and I know I'm not the only one feeling this way. And why wouldn't it be the whole album? Did I not say it was a solid "album"? I didn't say the music was low quality I said the format was messy so the playlist was my attempt to "clean it up", not to trim it into an EP. An album is supposed to be a curated body of work, this format is both thoughtless and overthought. I'm left unsatisfied after the Originals because in my mind the Unlocked are gonna be the actual produced version and sound very different but they are just fancy beats dubbed over the Originals in quite a contrived fashion. It left me underwhelmed and overwhelmed at the same time. When you have a solid album but bury them in so much fluff, the listeners end up spending double the time getting half the satisfaction. IMO that doesn't make a great album listening experience, it felt messy. Oh, and I left Billions out because I don't like it. I get what you mean, but it seems to me that today, with digital albums, streaming and all that, artists are less worried about trimming down their albums. The listeners can do that. In a way, Alicia doesn't have to choose one version of the song to put on the album, she can put both and fans can decide which one they'll add to their own playlist.

I love her interviews from this promo run! And she looks STUNNING!!
Will listen to the album again...don't think I like it better than her self titled, but there are some jams on it.

Seems like she had alot of manager/team issues over the course of her career. She's a vet so the sales really don't matter nowadays, focusing on the material more.
She's so high in TBC interview I love it.

Still need to watch BC but her Drink Champs interview made me fall in love with her all over again as a person. Definitely need to see her live again the next go round.

She seems very comfortable in her skin and feels so down to earth.
It feels like she's friends with Ebro, N.O.R.E and TBC hosts. The views are very impressive as well.
They hit a home run and she deserves all of her flowers, I do think she has crossed the shores into legend territory.

They hit a home run and she deserves all of her flowers, I do think she has crossed the shores into legend territory. She pretty much crossed that mark w/ "Empire State of Mind" in my mind, and that's why I was so frustrated by "Girl on Fire" because of how desperate for a hit it sounds like. But in the last three albums I can see she's gradually becoming less and less restricted by the commercial outlooks of her music. Even the more commercial-sounding cuts like "Underdog" feel more genuine and on brand coming from her. My only concern is whether she'll evolve into a Urban/R&B staple like Mary and Toni, because so far this album has produced not a single hit there. I think it'll be wise for her to focus on that demographic moving forward.

I'm so glad she's maintained a relative high profile regardless of how her work has performed on the charts. I agree...would be nice to see her continue to have success on urban and R&B formats.

Not being able to ship all the physical copies definitely hurts her chart performance.
This is her last album under contract with RCA also.

The album that never ends... I mean 'THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY' out now!

I feel like a lot of people didn't even know the album existed. I feel like her and RCA could have done a better job at promoting it. Hopefully with the release of the physical CD's in the next few months, it will help it reach higher chart status.

Swizz said because she didn’t want to renew her contract that RCA didn’t want to promote. It makes sense because I’m confused why they would pass on LALA being pushed to radio on its initial release. Overall, the numbers aren’t bad considering things right now. It’s unfortunate because she has a hit with Come For Me.

She has been on this contract for 20 damn years. I imagine she will make whatever the hell she wants now and not care about radio/chart success/etc.

Swizz said because she didn’t want to renew her contract that RCA didn’t want to promote. Not surprised, something similar happened with Miley Cyrus and her last album and now she's on Columbia. A recording act being free of RCA is pretty much always good news these days.

Labels never want to promote the album when an artist is walking out the door but good for her. Wonder where she will end up.

Yeah...wasn't expecting that low of an opening, but it is just OK with all things considered.

And based off of the DC interview, she learned alot of shiesty shit in the background of her career(most likely the label), and she's over it at this point. I wonder who would pick her up. Hell, she might as well stay indie.

Listening to the album right now and I'm enjoying it so far, especially the "Unlocked" side.

Changed my mind about the album, it's a masterpiece and one of her best. It's great that she's still making great music after all these years (like Mariah & Caution).

Hell, she might as well stay indie. She's just now learning about that stuff? I'm sure she was aware of it since the beginning. She was under Clive, after all. Her sales have been declining for quite sometime. Eventually, it was going to end up like all of those other major artists who no long meet major label expectations. Good thing she jumped ship before the label beat her to the punch. She and Swizz should start their own label.

Oh I didn't mean recently knowing about it. I meant she probably knew over the years and just never publicly bashed the label, etc. She just kept it low and did things her way.

Damn, just really listened to this and it’s really among her best (I know that’s not saying a lot). I wish she had released this album in the spring in order not to be buried between years. I doubt people outside her core fans or r&b enthusiasts will come back to this.

I got around to listening to the latest album and I thought it was pretty good. Between Keys and the previous album, Alicia, I'm starting to love Alicia again! That said, what would've made Keys perfect would be a trimming of both discs into a 12-14 track one. My favorite song is "Love When You Call My Name" (Original version). I also loved "Nat King Cole" (original version), "Skydive" (unlocked), "Old Memories," and "Daffodils" (original version). The latter gave me "River" by Joni Mitchell for some reason. I agree with the Whitney comparisons mentioned upthread, as well. "Is It Insane" is also a highlight, and I've loved it ever since it came out years ago... one of her best songs ever.
