This game did not include the 80's did it? Rick Springfield - Don't Talk To Strangers (1982), Journey - Open Arms (1982), Toto - Rosanna (1982) I remember those spending mega weeks at #2. No, it only included #2 hits from the past 25 years. I wanted to do an all-encompassing rankdown at first - there are so many good ones that got cut off, including the ones you listed - but that would have been well over 400 songs in all. Has anyone ever done an '80s themed rankdown for any category? I have too many planned rankdowns on my plate, otherwise I'd host one in a heartbeat.

Has anyone ever done an '80s themed rankdown for any category? My taste in 80s music is so limited that my list of songs would be too boring for most. I have considered doing an all-90s list and choosing something like the top 10 songs from each year but I really want to focus on 94-96! So many potential ideas!!

64 is definitely Don't Let Go ("you have the right to Lose Control" + they covered the Andrews Sisters song) 62 is It's All Coming Back to Me Now because another Celine song was in Up Close + Personal 61 is Heartless because of Kris Allen, although I don't know the song well enough to get The Wizard of Oz reference.

Don't Let Go, En Vogue Points: 568 | average rank: 15.111 | median rank: 12 | st. dev.: 13.707 Blocked by: Un-Break My Heart, Toni Braxton (4 weeks)
I was too hard with these clues, I think. The first clue was a lyric hint - "Hold me tight and don't let go, don't let go/you have the right to lose control." The second hint was in reference to En Vogue's cover of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. (Bonus hint within a hint - there were only three Andrews Sisters, and by the time En Vogue released Don't Let Go, they were down to three members). But BWBB was just an album cut and few people here would even know it exists let alone remember it right off the bat. I should have thought of something less obscure. Never mind, Juan and Ginger got it! Yay! :) Regardless, this song is amazing! I'm so happy to see it make the cut. It finished #1 in bat1990's En Vogue rankdown, so at least it topped a chart somewhere. ![](http://images.proboards.com/tongue.gif) En Vogue's other two biggest hits (Hold On and My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)) also peaked at #2, but those two songs missed this rankdown due to the 1993 cutoff.

I Love You Always Forever, Donna Lewis Points: 635 | average rank: 23.5 | median rank: 25 | st. dev.: 7.654 Blocked by: Macarena, Los Del Rio (9 weeks)
Juan gets it right again ![:d](http://images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif) Both hints were in reference to the song title - Atlantic Starr's Always (duh), and K-Ci & JoJo's All My Life was the lead single from their album Love Always. Also, both of those songs have a similar theme of loving someone forever, always...you get the picture. Pointlessly petty: I'm still mad at Donna Lewis for making JoJo take down her video for Right On Time (which sampled ILYAF). ROT wasn't even for sale, it was just on one of JoJo's free EPs and she put together a bunch of tour clips as a little gift for the fans. Donna went on some tangent about protecting her art or whatever and I'm sitting here like..."what are you protecting??? SHE'S NOT MAKING ANY MONEY, DONNA!" Ain't nobody snatching royalties from her! For this, and no other reason, I left her off the required list. Yes, I realize that was dumb. No, I don't care. Ol' one hit wonder looking self!

LOL, I didn't know that story about Donna! >:( Still, the song is pretty solid. I remember my brother saying that this should've been a song by Cyndi Lauper, because of their voices and looks... It's All Coming Back to Me Now, Celine Dion Points: 680 | average rank: 16.909 | median rank: 17 | st. dev.: 9.434 Blocked by: Macarena, Los Del Rio (3 weeks); No Diggity, Blackstreet ft. Dr. Dre and Queen Pen (3 weeks)
Juan gets it right again ![:d](http://images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif) as well as Ginger Spice. The first hint is literally Meat Loaf, who recorded it in 2006.* The second hint is for Celine's song Because You Loved Me, which appeared both on that movie's soundtrack and on her album Falling Into You along with IACBTMN. *Meat Loaf actually wanted the song back in the '80s, claiming that it was originally meant for his Bat Out of Hell II album before being replaced by "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" and set aside for a planned Bat Out of Hell III. But Jim Steinman, the writer, felt it was a woman's song and wouldn't let him have it, even going so far as to get a court order blocking Meat Loaf from recording it. Jim then let a girl group named Pandora's Box have it for a concept project he was working on in 1989; Celine's 1996 success with the cover purportedly ticked Meat Loaf off because he still had plans for it. Meat Loaf finally got to release it in 2006 as a duet with a Norwegian singer named Marion Raven, but Celine's version reigns supreme. Coincidentally enough I Love You Always Forever and It's All Coming Back to Me Now were back-to-back #2 hits on the charts as well as appearing back to back this rankdown; both were blocked for the most part by the Macarena. Celine stuck around long enough to see the Macarena finally descend, but instead of rising to take its place was leapfrogged by Blackstreet, who jumped from #3 to #1.

I guess it's one of those cases of artists you could merge into one ![](http://images.proboards.com/tongue.gif) The dumbest part about it is that there are still several fan-uploaded videos of JoJo's song on Youtube. If Donna really cared she would have had all of them pulled. I honestly wonder if she even listened to the song or looked into the situation instead of just having a kneejerk reaction because of JoJo making an 'official' looking video. I was holding out hope for a while that JoJo would re-record Right On Time with a different sample or something (it's very easy to take the ILYAF parts out because it's just in the bridge) but JoJo records so much material I guess she decided it wasn't worth it when she could just spit out another song that's just as good in the same amount of time it would take to 'fix' that one. Donna did kind of sound like a '90s Cyndi. I never thought of that, wow.

Ayyyy, one of my free picks! I forgot that this was blocked by "Crack a Bottle". I feel like this would have upset me greatly in 2009. I think, anyway.
On a related note, "Crack a Bottle" won a Grammy. It beat Kanye West's "Amazing". I am now officially disgusted.

I'm probably a minority on this, but every cover version of 'Heartless' I've heard is vastly superior to Kanye's original. Like, it's a good song when done by anyone other than him. ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) Chris Mann version > Samantha Jade version > Kris Allen version >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kanye original

Good to see that so far 5 of my free picks have made it! ![:d](http://images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif) I literally forced Don't let go to be at my middle ranking to include it. I just couldn't let it go ;) It's all coming back was Celine's first multi-week top song in my personal chart. I'm a sucker for Jim's famous singles though.... in any case Celine was perfect for that type of epic song!

Yea Heartless got an unlucky run at 2. It could have been 1 but then Crack A Bottle came out of no where to block it, then next week Right Round came out of no where too to get the number 1. If Billboard.com's archives are correct (sadly, there's a decent chance they aren't, but it's the most convenient source I've got so I have to work with it), Heartless only spent the one week at #2. Right Round did come the weak after, but Dead and Gone also jumped past Kanye. Normally I don't get too hung up on #2 peaks but that was pretty much the one week that Heartless could, would, and should have been #1, and it lost out to a fluke with no longevity. That's just gross. But the 808s era as a whole was unfairly snubbed IMO. Kanye won two awards that year but both were for his feature on Run This Town. I'm probably a minority on this, but every cover version of 'Heartless' I've heard is vastly superior to Kanye's original. Like, it's a good song when done by anyone other than him. Chris Mann version > Samantha Jade version > Kris Allen version >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kanye original I'm not familiar with the Chris or Samantha versions but I don't necessarily disagree? I remember right after Kris did it Youtube covers started popping up everywhere and I don't think I ever came across one I disliked. I think it's just a testament to what a well-written, well-arranged, universal song it is. It's Kanye, but it's the pinnacle of what a good pop song should be. Really all of 808s...for all the shit people gave that album I really do think it is his most flexible piece of work, Heartless being the prime example of it.

We need those extra points :( It's a shame "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" was the Taylor song that got chosen as that was the only song in 2017 to peak at #2. Otherwise, either "You Belong With Me" or "I Knew You Were Trouble." would've been included in the required songs list and would've made it way further up. Let's be honest, YBWM and IKYWT are WAY better than IDWLF.

Also I would have much preferred to have YBWM or IKYWT in this for real instead of the utter shit that is "I Don't Wanna Live Forever". Plz let that get out ASAP
