#30. All That She Wants, Ace of Base Points: 1237 | average rank: 40.657 | median rank: 41 | st. dev.: 16.037 Blocked by: I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That), Meatloaf (2 weeks); Again, Janet Jackson ( week)
The clue was a play on the lyrics ("all that she wants is another baby/she's gone tomorrow, but…"). All Leo wanted was another fave song of his to at do well in a rankdown, but he'll have to settle for just making the top half of this one.

#29. Wide Awake, Katy Perry Points: 1238 | average rank: 40.629 | median rank: 45 | st. dev.: 17.641 Blocked by: Call Me Maybe, Carlegend Slay Godsend (1 week)
Speaking of Leo, I ranked this #1 in his Katy Perry rankdown. By far my favorite KP single ever, though I think Tsunami may have passed it as my favorite Katy song overall.

(in the style of Killer Instinct and the "combo breaker")
P-P-P-P-P-PERFECT RANKING!
(For Ace of Base, obviously. Not quite perfect for "Wide Awake".)

Never cared for WA and never will I think that was my lowest ranked song remaining :) ATSW on the contrary is another 90s gem that should have been much higher :(

#28. Counting Stars, OneRepublic Points: 1247 | average rank: 12.684 | median rank: 12 | st. dev.: 9.431 Blocked by: Timber, Pitbull ft. Kesha (2 weeks)
If I had put together this rankdown based on average ranks, this would have been #1; if I had used medians it would have been tied for #3 (any tiebreaker would have given it #3 outright). Also, this is one of only two free picks that more than half the participants picked. The fact that it made the top 30 with a handicap says a lot about well-liked this song is and Apologize still not yet revealed speaks to how well 1R is liked in general. I wonder which of their #2 hits would have performed better if Counting Stars had been required? Hmmm.

Hint (the #39 and #31 songs, Last Kiss/Kiss Me) was a reference to one of Faith's earlier country-crossover hits, This Kiss.

#26. Pon De Replay, Rihanna Points: 1337 | average rank: 37.8 | median rank: 42 | st. dev.: 14.947 Blocked by: We Belong Together, Mariah Carey (3 weeks)
This is the fourth (and final) song to have no top 10 rankings. In fact it ranked dead last for two people. And yet somehow it's #26? I'm not complaining, I'm just confused.

#25. Fuck You/Forget You, Cee Lo Green Points: 1339 | average rank: 37.743 | median rank: 38 | st. dev.: 20.357 Blocked by: Born This Way, Lady Gaga (4 weeks)
The hint for this one was admittedly somewhat obscure - Gnarls Barkley has an album track called Smiley Faces and I was quoting that song. But yeah, Cee Lo might give you guys the bird for this ranking instead…which would be fitting b/c he's performed this song while dressed up as a bird at least once lol.

This is fittingly the highest-ranked 'optional' song and was also the song picked by the most people. I think that says all that needs to be said about the impact Linkin Park has made on music fans from all genres and walks of life. RIP, Chester, and wherever you are now, I hope you know that your life was not in vain.

HOW the hell wasn't this #1? Because of some unoriginal remix with Ja Rule that's literally his past two hits combined?!
On one hand...it's sad to how much an awesome song becomes an incredibly hard listen so quickly.

My internet is being annoyingly inconsistent so I'm going to take a break and try to resume later this evening with 23-16.
Also IDK if it was just a glitch or what but when I refreshed this page I saw Kesha's DY video in the post for ATSW, but all the other links are showing up 'busted' for me (again, b/c my internet's being a twat and not fully loading images or vids rn). If you guys have noticed that any of the posts have the wrong video links let me know which ones and I'll attempt to fix them when I get a chance!

HOW the hell wasn't this #1? Because of some unoriginal remix with Ja Rule that's literally his past two hits combined?! On one hand...it's sad to how much an awesome song becomes an incredibly hard listen so quickly. I hate the eventual backlash that resulted in hip-hop (and urban by proxy) being totally wiped from CHR, but the early to mid-00s were SO saturated by those two genres. A song that would blow up on urban would cross over to and peak on CHR at the same time and rack up total chart points that were impossible for pop and rock songs to achieve. It would take 50 Cent to finally end Ja's reign of terror - and it's not like that tradeoff was any better, as Green Day and Kelly Clarkson fans can attest. But annoyingly enough it's hip-hop, mostly of the viral/"are we really going to remember this song 10 years from now?" variety, that is making its way back into the mainstream and top 10 of the Hot 100 again. Pure r&b is not only not crossing over, it's damn near dead even on its own contemporary format b/c hip-hop crowded it out. That's definitely my old age making me a grump, but it doesn't make it any less true or less frustrating to watch.

30. All That She Wants - My favorite discovery from the older songs. It's a really fun song, I should've ranked it higher. 29. Wide Awake - One of my favorite Katy Perry songs. I didn't expect it to do better though. 28. Counting Stars - Surprised it's not the highest ranked free pick (Guessing that one is In The End?). One of my favorites of the decade, I ranked it pretty low because it already was in so many Rankdowns. 27. Breathe - Decent song, but was my lowest song remaining. 26. Pon De Replay - Lol the same reaction as #26. 25. Forget You - Fun song, good place for it. 24. In The End - Great to see that it's the highest placed free pick. This one was always one of my favorites of them. RIP Chester :(

so happy that "In The End" did as well as it did. The minute I saw it was available as a free pick my #1 was chosen. There was no comparison with anything else on this entire list. It is one of those rare songs that I listen to all the time and it never gets old, remember seeing Linkin Park on TRL to debut the video to this song and loved it immediately. This song was not my introduction to them but it was definitely the one that made me a huge fan of theirs. RIP Chester!

#23. You Make Me Wanna, Usher Points: 1347 | average rank: 37.514 | median rank: 40 | st. dev.: 15.535 Blocked by: Candle In the Wind 1997, Elton John (7 weeks)
Live by the condomless sword, die by the condomless sword, I guess. This **** has built an entire career on triflingness and thotting around, starting with this here ode to cheating with his girl's bestie; now his trifling cheating with one of his (now ex) girl's besties may be the thing that ends said career. It's not a good week to be an Usher fan y'all :( compounded by the fact that people have been trying to play this man's career weak for about five years straight now. These so-called music fans out here are trying to set up his 20+ year career for a future episode of Unsung or some s**t. But for some reason I'm still holding on to a sliver of hope that he can one day pull himself, his moral compass, and his image together long enough to make people eventually recognize his career for what it always has been, iconic. In the meantime y'all make sure you're wrapping it up before getting it down!

#22. All I Wanna Do, Sheryl Crow Points: 1377 | average rank: 36.657 | median rank: 40 | st. dev.: 18.903 Blocked by: I'll Make Love To You, Boyz II Men (6 weeks)
All I wanna do is figure out what '90s stars had against the preposition 'to.' That prepositional discrimination still lingers as we've already had a 2000s and a 2010s song with 'wanna' in the title. But you know, we're in a post-grammatical society now, so it's not nearly so bad and I should probably stop pulling the grammar card so much….right. Anyway this song was cute for its time but It hasn't really aged as well for me as other Sheryl Crow hits have.

#21. Problem, Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azalea Points: 1449 | average rank: 34.6 | median rank: 36 | st. dev.: 19.776 Blocked by: Fancy, Iggy Azalea ft. Charli XCX (5 weeks)
I might be wrong - if so I'm sure someone will let me know lol - but I believe this/Fancy and the yet to be revealed Sweet Escape/Don't Matter are the only two instances on this rankdown where an artist blocked him or herself from the top spot. What makes it so interesting is that in both cases it was an artist's solo hit blocking one of their 'featured' credits. So Iggy may not have been too fussed about Problem missing #1, but poor Ariana has to keep on trying for that elusive #1.
