Canadian Artists Rankdown - TOP 2 REVEAL RIGHT NOW

This is my first time hosting a Rankdown and there’s so many artists I’d want to do and might get to at some point but I didn’t want to flood the queue with another artist-specific or even a year-specific one so I thought I’d start with something really general but also kind of specific.

Canada celebrates its 150th birthday on July 1! To celebrate the best way I know how, I'm doing a Canadian Rankdown! A list of the top Canadian artists of all time as determined by Pulse!



Most all-time Canadian lists tend to have the same or similar result and I think a Pulse perspective would look very different and I’m excited to see it. Obviously there’ll be more sway toward an American/International perspective, a heavier lean on newer Canadian artists and much more genre variety than the traditional list. That latter one is what excites me more because Canadian music has gotten so diverse over the last 10-15 years and that never gets reflected in all-time Canadian lists, which tend to lean almost entirely rock.

So I have a list of a bunch of Canadian artists, past and present. My hope was that I could actually do a Top 150 Canadian artists of all time but I only have 220ish artists listed and I really don’t expect all of them to get votes so the end result will likely be a Top 50. I also thought about doing a Canadian Songs list but the possibilities of that would be too numerous. I suppose I could have done a rankdown of songs by Canadians that have ever made the Hot 100 Top 10… maybe next year.

The rules:

• Of the list below, select 50 Canadian artists and rank them in order with #1 being your top pick. No more, no less, no ties. Rank 1-50. Send your picks (and pics) to me Rose "Payola" Nylund
• There are a few artists in the list who have had success both as a band and solo. I’ve combined them as one entry. Feel free to highlight one over the other if you have a strong preference. It’ll still be a combined entry but a highlight might add some significance for the reveal.
• I tried to make the list as exhaustive as I could while keeping it mainly to artists I thought might have a chance at being known. (ie. there’s a bunch of lesser-known artists I personally would rank in my own personal Canadian-favs list not included here/I don’t have the best grasp on Canadian country artists.) With that said, write-ins are welcome. Feel free to mention anyone not on this list in-thread if you think it might encourage additional votes.
• This isn’t a requirement but if you like, I’d love it if you included your favourite song by the Top 10 artists in your rankdown. This would mostly be for general interest sake for the reveal and isn’t necessarily. I know it would be added work and really, the less work the better. But it’s encouraged nonetheless!
• I don’t know the likelihood of ties but they’ll be broken by (a) higher number of different voters, (b) highest median rank, (c) highest mean.
• As of now, I plan on revealing a Top 50. Depending on the results, that number could increase (or decrease).
• Deadline as of now is June 15 June 20 but that could change depending on deadlines for other rankdowns, number of pending submissions, my own laziness.

Ok good!

I know there's a lot of older and lesser known acts but I feel like even if we're only going by recent hitmakers, there should be enough who have made the hot 100 over the last decade to make a list out of. And that isn't even including the Shanias and Alanises and Deborah Cox.
