Impressive on a first listen - varied, great (and interesting) production, lyrically strong. Some clear standouts (but I won’t spoil those). Nothing like the last album, which I do like, but was far from her best.
I’m usually way off with my initial reactions to albums… but probably one of her best? Let’s see with time.

I caved and ordered the special edition book from Amazon. It arrives tomorrow. I am pretty excited! Howling at this plot development.

This is FATM's most favorably reviewed album, at an 87 on Metacritic. The closest they have come was a 79. Somehow, her best album (Ceremonials) got outranked by How Blah, LOL. I am even more excited to hear DF now!

Ok, so I am really glad I paid extra for the book. It's gorgeous and basically the lyrics, notes, and photos in hardcover book form, which is nice. On an unrelated note: I hate to say this, but I always think Florence is at least 1.5x her age when I see her. She's been looking like she was in her 40s even in her early 20s. I can't think of anyone else in music with the same situation. Anyway, Search & Destroy, the bonus track after the acoustic versions of some of the songs, is an Iggy Pop cover. Interesting. I'm seeing Doctor Strange in IMAX after work and then I will dive into this.

This album is so much better than her last two, wow. The TKO of King-Free-Choreomania opening the album lays me flat. I am blown away. I'm glad this energy is back! It's also dynamic. The slow songs are hypnotic. Nothing is bland like it was with Beige Like Hope. How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful wasn't bad. It just wasn't that memorable outside a few songs. While I could have used maybe at least one more upbeat song, everything just feels alive and sparkles with magic. This album was an absolute joy to listen to.
My Love (a SMASH in the making) Free (FLAWLESS) King (pure magic) Cassandra (come on, now! sell me that drama!) Morning Elvis (this really moved me.) Dream Girl Evil Choreomania Girls Against God Daffodil Back In Town Prayer Factory (this reminds me of Fiona Apple. I love it.) The Bomb Heaven Is Here (this reminds me of something that would have been on Fetch The Boltcutters. I can hear it in a Ryan Murphy show or some CW show.) Restraint

This album… she’s back on her doing shrooms under the opera house shit 😭😭😭 ❤️❤️❤️💕💕💕💕💕 makes me appreciate what she was doing on HAH and HBHBHB even more now that I know she’s not sticking with that sound forever. So many incredible lyrics and vocal moments, I wish there were a couple more upbeat songs cause she does them so well but it’s still an amazing piece of work. This era I just feel so proud of her as a fan lol, she’s a fucking beast.

Morning Elvis. That’s the song. Yup. That's my favorite too. Overall, I like this album better than her last two. Still Ceremonials is my favorite.

Not feeling this album aside from the songs released (and Choreomania, Dream Girl Evil, Daffodil). The slow songs are more than skippable. 😴 Thankful I didn’t preorder this.

Kind of middling, but I feel like Florence is an artist only as big as her last album/hit in the US, it's all cumulative. It's also been a while.

The only annoyance I have is the dead air intro to some of the songs (Girls Against God, Back in Town, etc.) It kind of kills the momentum for me a little when jumping from song to song.
But the songs themselves are incredible.
Morning Elvis is the perfect album closer, and Daffodil is some serious Ceremonials-type dark sh** and I love it.

^^ think that's chiefly why I love Daffodil, Ceremonials is easily my favorite (and imo the best) Florence album and it's so that vibe.

I think that's why I didn't enjoy High as Hope as much, it was more light and airy compared to her previous work. How Big How Blue was kind of a combo, with some lighter songs but also Ship to Wreck and What Kind of Man had that epic production with a dark-ish vibe. This album is kind of a good combo, it's not as dark as I wish it could be but I still really love it. Ceremonials remains her magnum opus IMO, but this is an incredible effort. Even HAH was still good, just my least favorite.

54K start via Billboard!
Florence + The Machine collects its fourth top 10 album on the Billboard 200 as Dance Fever debuts at No. 7 with 54,000 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, album sales comprise 42,500, SEA units comprise 11,000 (equaling 14.5 million on-demand official streams of the set’s 14 tracks) and TEA units comprise 500 units.

The only annoyance I have is the dead air intro to some of the songs (Girls Against God, Back in Town, etc.) It kind of kills the momentum for me a little when jumping from song to song. This. The first few times I listened to the album, I had to check and make sure that Spotify hadn't crapped out on me. But that's my only gripe with the album. It's a great record. "My Love" and that killer melody lives rent free in my head. Not sure yet what my other faves are because I need to listen more, but that's the one in particular that I have to keep replaying.

The new album is fantastic. They/she kind of lost me with the last two records, but this one is welcome a return to form imo.
