An hour after release and it's already #01 on iTunes Albuns Chart! Did not expect it to pass The Weeknd new EP (but I guess her pre-orders must've helped with that!)

I would posit that this is an alt record, not a country record. And they should market it as such, because country is never going to bite

Currently going through my first listen after picking up the album, yes I went to an actual brick-and-mortar store for my girl, and I'm stuck at the bliss that is Oh, What a World. Did Kacey really just use vocoder effects?! That little touch really just helped the production breathe more and I'm in a constant state of swaying because of it. I'll post the rest of my thoughts once I finish the album.

I liked Kacey's first two albums but this one is great also. It is getting great reviews from nearly every music site.

I need about 2 more minutes added onto Velvet Elvis! BRING BACK THE STRINGS! FADE IT OUT! NOOOOOO! Instantly in love with that song.
Edit: High Horse...RELEASE IT! RELEASE IT RIGHT NOW! I was not expecting this at all. This disco-bluegrass-funk combination is amazing!

She wrote the song after an acid-trip, so that's probably why it's a little extra...trippy. My Brooklyn buddy is coming over to party this afternoon and I am sending him to Atlantic Terminal to pick this up for me since my foot is still gimpy. Ain't trying to hobble to the train LOL. Edit: Waaaait a minute. Best Buy's website has it listed for $13.99 and not being carried in stores. Have they already cancelled physical copies of CDs??

Some promo performances! Kacey did "Slow Burn" on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and "Butterflies" on The Today Show!
The "Slow Burn" performance was ABSOLUTELY gorgeous... The band was on point, her vocals smooth as silk and I loved her styling with the long hair and Moschino suit! The staging was also brillint and contributed perfect to set the mood for the song! Loved the he little detail of the Chinese lamps going bright as she sang the Beijing line in the song. She did great with "Butterflies" as well but I have to say I'm not that crazy about those sleeves

Target has it on sale for $9.99 but all the stores in my area just opened and are already showing "4 (or 3) copies left". I ordered one for pick-up just to be safe but it looks like since these stores are stopping the sale of CDs (or threatening to stop), these labels aren't trying to overwhelm them with stock.

Best Buy's last week of carrying new CDs was March 2. They'll still carry CDs up through July or whenever they're going to stop, but they won't be carrying anything released past March 2. (The only reason I know this date is because while interning at Strange Music, there was this huge melancholy feel that Tech's Planet was being released that very day, making his album one of the last new CDs Best Buy would ever carry.)

Hmm...my buddy was able to pick up the new Jack White album, released last Fri, for me from one of the Best Buys in the city on release day but...this sucks. Oh well. I have been mentally preparing myself for this day for a while. Thank God for Amazon Prime and AutoRip! Hopefully, my friend coming this afternoon is able to get it from the Brooklyn Target that has it. My local Target has it but I can't make the 20-ish min walk with my busted foot.

Y'all "Slow Burn" shakes me down to my soul, holy shit! Unfortunately, yes. Best Buy's last week of carrying new CDs was March 2. They'll still carry CDs up through July or whenever they're going to stop, but they won't be carrying anything released past March 2. (The only reason I know this date is because while interning at Strange Music, there was this huge melancholy feel that Tech's Planet was being released that very day, making his album one of the last new CDs Best Buy would ever carry.) It might be a store-by-store basis then. I know the Lee's Summit Best Busy quit getting new CDs on that date, but admittedly I haven't been in a BB since February, so... haha! I pray you can find it in your Target. I was at the Lee's Summit Target the other day and its CD section is already reduced to an end cap and half of the spaces are just empty. I think there were literally less than 20 different CDs there (the latest Now, Camila, Niall, Demi, TGS soundtrack, among very few others) and maybe ~50 in total. It was so heartbreaking to see.

I thought overall it was very good. Some interesting choices in trying to branch out into that more pop sound like other contemporary artists have done -- you can tell she would like to try and get a hit this time.
"Lonely Weekend" is the one song that absolutely stuck in my mind. What perfection!
I was so devastated that radio almost always ignores her, so hopefully this changes that.

I also love Mother, it's such a nostalgic song but it's so short it resembles an interlude.

Ok, I've basically played this album on repeat all day, and it does continue to open up in just the ways I expected. It's just so...lovely. I can hear so many interesting and unexpected influences here--sometimes I feel like I'm listening to something Lana might do, sometimes it's Karen Carpenter, sometimes it's Joan Baez, and then the disco, roller rink-ready "High Horse" gives the back half of the album its most sparkling moment.
I'm ashamed I didn't instantly pick up on the beauty of "Oh, What A World," because my god--stunning. "Butterflies" continues to get the most replays, but "Happy & Sad" might soon take that over. That has to be the prettiest, most melodic chorus of 2018. Even the two tracks I thought slowed more than stunned, "Lonely Weekend" and "Love Is A Wild Thing," have quickly showed themselves to be worthy inclusions in such a strong album.
The only thing I'd say is that she needed one more song in the tempo of "High Horse" and "Velvet Elvis," and it needed to hit right before or after "Lonely Weekend." It's a great listen as-is, but it still stays a bit too slow for a bit too long, to a degree that some might even find sluggish. Adding one track wouldn't have made the album feel bloated, and I think some simple track rearrangements would make give the album a slightly better pace, especially since the production is so sparse (always to the individual song's betterment, but as a wholistic listen, it doesn't quite pull me in as much as Lana's equally slow but more lush Honeymoon and Lust for Life albums).
A minor quibble, though; easily my favorite album of the year, and one that should definitely land her an AOTY nomination.

Haven't been able to give this a thorough listen yet, but from my first walk-through, the highlights are Slow Burn, Lonely Weekend, Butterflies, Space Cowboy, Happy & Sad, Velvet Elvis, Wonder Woman, and High Horse. Wait is that like half the album? When you realize the album is so good that even on your first listen where you weren't paying close attention to everything and still half the damn album came off as standouts.
