Rihanna will slow down someday (12 years into Madonna's career she was still on top, having her biggest chart hit with "Take A Bow" - ironically the name of one of Rihanna's chart-toppers too) but her run thus far has been amazing. #1 hits aren't as automatic for her as they used to be but obviously still happen, so it will be interesting to see if she can pass Mariah and the Beatles. One thing we know is that, like Madonna, you can never totally count her out! I don't really think Madonna was on top during the Bedtime Stories era. Actually, Madonna seemed to struggle through most of the 90s, isn't it so?

Oh Believer at #11 this week! It will go top 10 next week right? I already had two songs I was rooting for stall at 11 (Issues and Say You Won't Let Go ) so don't let this be the third one in a row

Actually, Madonna seemed to struggle through most of the 90s, isn't it so? No. She had 15 top ten hits and multiple multi-platinum albums during the 90s. Not just Take A Bow, but Vogue, Justify My Love, Ray of Light, etc. Starting in the 2000s however you would have a point, so even Madonna hasn't lasted forever. But it's too bad Rihanna is taking most of the press from this song, because I think it's amazing that DJ Khaled is reaching the pinnacle of his success after age 40, which is very rare for either gender.

The thing about Rihanna this past year was that her first single off ANTI performed way better than most Rihanna singles, so I wasn't too surprised that her follow-up singles didn't do as well. These past couple years, chart runs throughout albums have been more front-loaded than usual, with 1 or 2 huge singles, then the album release, then nothing else coming close. If Work didn't spend so long at #1, Needed Me and Love On The Brain probably would've done a bit better, at least. Probably could've squeezed in 1 or 2 more #1 hits this era. She's definitely not done getting #1 hits.

Songs to look out for: Cassie's Me & U. The 2006 track was just discounted on iTunes and has broken the Top 40 (It's currently sitting at #35), it's too early to see if it'll have enough momentum to re-enter the Hot 100. The R&B track peaked as high as #3 in it's original run over 11 years ago.
My question: Why? I didn't know the song was that memorable, I mean, many Puff Daddy and Biggie tracks were discounted as well yet they haven't broken iTunes Top 40, and they were arguably bigger stars in their day than Cassie.

Why does Despacito have a bullet? Didn't the official points predictions have it down?

Why does Despacito have a bullet? Didn't the official points predictions have it down? Because it's still gaining in Radio, I suppose

Despacito is still gaining at radio, but it has peaked in streaming and in sales. I think next week we'll begin to see it decrease in those two metrics at a faster rate.
If all goes as planned and Taylor doesn't release, I could see Wild Thoughts reaching #1 by the end of July.

She's definitely not done getting #1 hits. Both songs still did really well. "Needed Me" had fantastic longevity, even though its peak could have been a bit better. "Love On The Brain" had a really weird rollout and didn't receive a music video, but still peaked in the Top 5, so that's not bad in my books.

I know this is off topic, but it's so strange that Hotline Bling never went #1. The song was so omnipresence in it's day, and is still being referenced today. It's definitely Drake's most memorable hit.
One Dance might've been bigger, but Hotline Bling was more memorable and will be the hit that everyone will remember.

When I think Drake I think Find Your Love/Best I Ever Had. The more recent stuff is noise to me.
On topic kind of though, are songs weighed more in relevance to all time charts now that the 52 week rule is in effect? Closer is already probably in all time territory but it can only have another 5 weeks charting (vs Radioactive for example which will have 30~ more weeks)

^ If I understand your question correctly, I would think that for the purpose of the all-time charts, the weightings would be adjusted after the 52 week rule to give those songs slightly more points because they are cut off sooner.

Random song that debuts at #99 requires less marketing now because people who read the flagship chart now knows that it is out and are then more likely to buy it I call BS on this. Playboi Carti just debuted for the first time at #91 and #100 this week. How many people in the world do you think will listen to Playboi Carti for the first time because they saw his song on the Hot 100? I'm going to say, probably... 100 people. Maybe 200. He'll gain maybe 500 extra streams on Spotify from hardcore chart nerds that otherwise would never have listened to his music. How many people do you think will buy Playboi Carti's music this week specifically because they saw that it debuted on the Hot 100? I'm going to go with maybe a dozen people who habitually spend $1.29 on every song that debuts on the Hot 100 every week. Actually, I can't imagine anybody doing that. Because anybody who cares enough about the music industry to want to spend $13 a week on iTunes should also know that it would be way more cost efficient to just use Spotify. But regardless, I'm going to say that a dozen people will buy Playboi Carti songs from iTunes this week specifically because they saw him on the Hot 100. Some huge loss for the record companies if the guy never charted. Meanwhile, the type of people to post on Rap Genius, KTT, /r Hip-Hop heads, etc. have been talking about Playboi Carti for months now. Maybe even a full year. They talk about so many artists who have never charted. Or talk about artists a year before they charted for the first time. The people in charge of marketing have so much more important things to worry about then whether their song is going to be noticed by a handful of chart nerds who ignore everything that doesn't chart. Debuting on the Hot 100 isn't going to give Playboi Carti any significant boost that he wouldn't already have if he was pushed down by songs like Uptown Funk. It's a nice ego boost to think that a song or artist's inclusion onto the Hot 100 is a major benefit for that song on an industry standpoint. It gives purpose to what we do when we scour this chart up and down for hours and hours at a time. But the truth is, it's trivial. The hardcore chart nerds like us who look deep into the Hot 100 are astronomically outnumbered by the actual casual music fans who drive the industry. Fast forward a few weeks later: a once obscure act named Playboi Carti, is now at #29

I loved Plies in 07/08. His new songs are ok, but not compared to his 07 08 levels.
BTW, can STYB leave already?

Agree but I think it's Drake or his label's fault why it didn't reach #1. Didn't the music video an Apple Music exclusive for its first week and if I remember it right Apple Music didn't report to Nielsen the video's views (likely below expectations) so it didn't count on Hotline Bling's chart points? If it was on YouTube from the get go, could have been #1
