#15: BreatheStatsPoints: 348 Average: 24.857 Std Dev: 20.810 Charts Australia #23 United Kingdom #14 History & Tidbits The third single from Impossible Princess was the steamy electro-ballad, "Breathe." The song also did better in key markets than "Some Kind of Bliss" but was the last release technically under Deconstruction. BMG bought Deconstruction and personnel change left Kylie on the out for European promotion of this album. In OZ/NZ, Kylie was part of Mushroom Records, which allowed for the release of "Cowboy Style" and better support for the album. Notable losses: Two #2s!!!!! Host Opinion I prefer the sped-up radio edit. That said, this song has always been a sleeper favorite of mine. I love the way it kind of circles around and around with slightly different production each time. And I'm so happy it made the top 15!! #14: In My ArmsStatsPoints: 343 Average: 24.500 Std Dev: 19.410 Charts Australia #35 United Kingdom #10 Ireland #15 History & Tidbits Just like that, X is out of the rankdown. The third single in Anglophone markets and second in continental Europe, "In My Arms," is next out. The song was actually co-produced by Biff of BiffCo and none other than Calvin Harris! The video features Kylie performing the song in front of a variety of colorful settings. The song performed well in Europe. Notable Losses: More top 10s! Also all but two people ranked the song in or near the top half. Host Opinion I did not realize this was a Calvin Harris production until doing research for this entry. This song has always been enjoyable to me, a nice blend of hard electro sounds and a breezy, heartfelt sentiment with Kylie's vocals. It's so interesting to me how many hot producers of today Kylie was working with ten years ago for this album. #13: Into the BlueStatsPoints: 341 Average: 24.357 Std Dev: 15.746 Charts Australia #46 Japan Hot 100 #8 United Kingdom #12 Ireland #9 US Dance #1 History & Tidbits The lead from Kylie's most recent studio album, the bombastic "Into the Blue." Kylie actually recorded the song on her birthday in 2013. She premiered the song on BBC Radio 2 in early 2014 and commenced promotion for the Kiss Me Once album. The single also gave a another amazing B-side on the 7" called "Sparks." Listen here if you've never heard it: Notable Losses: Leo ✔ and Juanca consider this penance for being the Deconstruction haters. Host Opinion Such a standout on the uneven Kiss Me Once. It has such an uplifting sentiment and is so well produced that I forgive her for the disappointing Aphrodite. The video was glamorous but hard to follow. #12: Too FarStatsPoints: 340 Average: 24.286 Std Dev: 20.552 Charts N/C History & Tidbits "Too Far" is the first song Kylie penned with no song writers. Describing frustration as claustrophobia, Kylie unleashes a darker set of emotions upon the world. The song was in contention to be a single several times but lost out to the four songs that ended up being released commercially. Instead, the song was remixed by Brothers in Rhythm and served as a radio and club single in several markets including North America. Host Opinion Love it! Chelsea Press 2, we can be friends again. Angry, angsty, dark, haunting, unnerving, I could go on and on. This track is fantastic and I wish Kylie would write more. Sadly the word of God is not correct this time. #11: Spinning AroundStatsPoints: 300 Average: 21.429 Std Dev: 15.530 Charts Australia #1 New Zealand #2 United Kingdom #1 Ireland #4 History & Tidbits A co-writing credit from Kara DioGuardi and Paula Abdul gave a Kylie a smash hit from her new contract with Parlophone records. Kick off the era of "Camp Kylie" that lasted through arguably either 2005 or 2011 (or maybe not at all). The song was a smash hit across the world (excepting North America) and had a club video with iconic hot pants. Notable Losses: One very low ranking likely kept this out of the top 10. You know where to throw your tomatoes Host Opinion <3 <3 <3 That is all <3 <3 <3 I'm so shocked this didn't make the top 10 though. "Spinning Around" wasn't always a favorite of mine but it had a whole new meaning for me after c*ming *ut, so. But yeah that's surprising actually lol I guess I underestimated the attitudes of most towards PWL-era Kylie. I still predict that "Devil" will be kicked out sooner than later.

I'm amazed 'Too Far' came so close to top 10, given it was only a club release and not a full single - but it's just so good. 'Spinning Around' and 'Put Yourself In My Place' both deserved top 10 though.

Tomorrow, I shall reveal 10 through 6 as I am exhausted from a busy weekend and going to bed soon.
Tidbits - Every song except #2 and #1 have at least one ranking in the bottom half, most below 50. - All Fever songs hit the top 10 - I thought at least "In Your Eyes" would be kicked out earlier

Awwwww Lost lots of faves :( In My Arms easily became a favorite of mine during the X era. It had a personal connection as part of a soundtrack of my first trips to Europe. The overall melancholic vibe is outstanding IMO. Same with Into The Blue, where I also appreciate her voice a lot. I feel I might've over-ranked Red Blooded a bit, so I won't complain much about it. I'm surprised at ATL not making top 10, though. Pretty good combo of dance, melodic pop, with an outstanding bridge, synth explosion. I'm really surprised at the high peaks of the Decon singles. I mean, it may be because I didn't live through that era, and I heard those songs for the first time during this RD, but overall they were just not my cup of tea and didn't believe Kylie in that style. Plus TF is just for me. Maybe I should check some of the remixes that have been mentioned... Oh, well, at least I still have 5 of my top 10s. 1,3,4,7,10,11,12,19,22,23

#10: I Believe in YouStatsPoints: 267 Average: 19.071 Std Dev: 12.437 Charts Australia #6 New Zealand #29 United Kingdom #2 Ireland #9 US Dance #3 History & Tidbits "I Believe in You" marked a return to form after the R&B/experimental sound of Body Language. The song began a friendship and working relationship with the Scissor Sisters which has continued to this day. IBIY was also the first single from Ultimate Kylie, the first hits collection from Parlophone. The video features Kylie and some dancers in colorful kaleidoscopic light settings, performing the song. Host Opinion Euphoric and sublime. There's a part of me that wants to not like it when it starts, but by the end of the song it always hooks me again. #9: Better The Devil You KnowStatsPoints: 263 Average: 18.786 Std Dev: 14.630 Charts Australia #4 New Zealand #27 United Kingdom #2 Ireland #4 History & Tidbits Beating out #10 by four points, we have the final PWL era single. "Better The Devil You Know" lead off Kylie's third album Rhythm of Love and dramatically shifted her image away from the sweet girl-next-door singing bubblegum pop. The song was a top 10 hit in most Anglophone territories and a top 40 hit elsewhere. Despite not charting or being promoted in North America, it was released as a cassette single from the motion picture soundtrack for If Looks Could Kill. The video was controversial at the time for showing Kylie as part of an interracial couple. The song was also re-issued in Australia in 1998, peaking at #58. Host Opinion This song has always been a highlight. I echo Nick Cave's sentiment that the lyrical content is quite disturbing despite the upbeat sound and choice of a major key. This song began a quite trend of self-destructive romantic behaviors discussed in Kylie songs now and again across her career (another example being "Everything is Beautiful"). Still though, it's a welcome change from the cheesy and syrupy songs of her debut. I love it also because I can relate to the unhealthy, co-dependent sentiment espoused in the lyrics. #8: In Your EyesStatsPoints: 239 Average: 17.071 Std Dev: 12.029 Charts Australia #1 New Zealand #18 United Kingdom #3 Ireland #6 Canada #11 History & Tidbits Coming in a whopping 26 points below number 9 is the second single from Fever and first loss from this album. "In Your Eyes" is a shimmering club banger about desire and temptation with an appropriately stunning visual. The song was actually postponed a bit because of the unexpectedly massive reaction to the prior single in North America. Still, the song managed to chart well in Europe and Oceania. Host Opinion I'm surprised this song went as far as it did. Not that I don't love it, but I expected Kylie stand-bys like "Spinning Around," "All The Lovers", or one of the X singles to beat this out. That said, it's an excellent club track and a fun journey with an amazingly appropriate and frankly really cool video. I think Dannii took inspiration from the clip for the "Put The Needle On It." #7: Get Outta My WayStatsPoints: 238 Average: 17.000 Std Dev: 16.201 Charts Australia #67 United Kingdom #12 Ireland #33 US Dance #1 History & Tidbits Beating out #8 by a single point, we have "Get Outta My Way" coming in at #7. The second single from Aphrodite was a fan delight and chart disappointment (largely b/c Parlophone waited forever and a day to release it...). The song itself is a thumping club anthem where Kylie asserts her control and independence from a neglectful lover, playfully toying with others on the dance floor. The video is notable for continuing the Aphrodite/Ancient Greek imagery and a large array of special effects. Fun Fact: This song was in the Top 3 for a while until more rankings poured it, pushing it down a couple spots. Notable Loss: Your host loses his #1 :'( Host Opinion Chart performance be damned! This song is quintessential Kylie - it perfectly blends many of her personas into one, making the listener want to get up and dance but also pay attention and go on a journey. It's catchy, fun, sexy, interesting, and campy. I can't get enough of this song and I rage over the fact that Alesso had a larger hit with his single "Cool" sampling this than Kylie did. Also, I want the light up gloves she was wearing in the video. #6: Love at First SightStatsPoints: 233 Average: 16.643 Std Dev: 10.653 Charts Australia #3 New Zealand #9 United Kingdom #2 Ireland #7 US #23 US Dance #1 Canada #5 History & Tidbits Our fourth lowest standard deviation goes to the #6 entry. "Love At First Sight" was the third single overall and second in North America from Kylie's blockbuster album Fever. The single was a commercial success the world over, even going top 10 at pop radio in the United States. North America also received the Ruff & Jam Remix as their single version. The video was like a Windows screensaver, showing Kylie and her dancers performing armography in an ever-changing green virtual building. Host Opinion Always a delight. 12 year old me would freak out every time this came on the radio. Sadly, this was not the birth of enduring Pop success for Kylie stateside, but it was fun summer jamming out to this song and video nonetheless. The song is unabashedly happy that it's infectious.
