23. "Again"from janet. (1993) "Good intentions, you had many. // I know you did."
This ballad was written specifically for Janet's starring role in Poetic Justice. The song and movie both went on to be successes, with the song becoming Janet's 7th #1 on the Hot 100. It was also nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars. "Again" has always been divisive among fans, with some finding it beautiful and sweet, while others find it too cheesy for their liking. wish I had participated in this...Diamonds, Black Cat, Scream & Control are all too low but otherwise you guys have done a superb job of ranking so far
I think I'll root for "Miss You Much" for the win

22. "Go Deep"from The Velvet Rope (1997) "I'm getting freaked from behind // I don't even mind."
While The Velvet Rope was a very heavy album, it had its lighter moments, especially in the form of "Go Deep", the album's fourth single. While the song was released to radio, its physical release in the US was cancelled at the last minute, and the cassette singles that were printed were given away promotionally with additional purchases at FYE stores. Due to the song not having a commercial release, it was ineligible to chart on the Hot 100 (less than a year later Billboard would change these rules). Despite this, it still feels like a Janet classic and it goes off at parties to this day. With this elimination, both Albie and weaver both lose their #2 song, and there is a rare occurrence where Wavey✨️ and .indulgecountry aren't in sync at all! Remix recommendations: Timbaland/Missy Remix + Teddy Riley Funk Mix + Masters At Work Thunder Mix + more. All the official mixes of this were good. Average: 26.185 Standard Deviation: 16.811

Tie (Part 1):
20. "Feedback"from Discipline (2008) "Strum me like a guitar // blow out my amplifier."
This song seems to be really polarizing among Janet fans. The song was something of a return to a poppier Janet after the very urban 20 Y.O., which in and of itself was a polarizing move. She also abandoned longtime collaborators Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, opting to work with Darkchild on this song. The song had some questionable lyrics, particularly the "heavy like a first day period" line. Still, it's a jam and a half and, in my opinion, fits pretty nicely alongside her career bests. .indulgecountry and @mirza will be particularly sad to lose this song, and aerodynamite too, losing another top three tonight. Meanwhile, @antigonerising and fearlessarrow have probably been waiting patiently for this song to GTFO. Average: 25.741 Standard Deviation: 17.78

Tie (Part 2):
20. "Got 'Til It's Gone"(feat. Q-Tip & Joni Mitchell)from The Velvet Rope (1997) "How'd I ever let you get away?"
This song was very divisive. So much so, that this song has the second highest standard deviation in the entire rankdown (after "Throb"). Taking a cue from her previous album campaign, Janet decided to release a laid back mid tempo to lead off The Velvet Rope, rather than something more upbeat. (In fact, for years, I just assumed "Together Again" was the album's lead single). The song was interestingly not released commercially in the US, so it never charted on the Hot 100. The music video is one of her most memorable, taking place during the time of apartheid in South Africa. What is interesting about this song being tied with "Feedback", is that the two highest scores for "Feedback" (@mirza and .indulgecountry ), were the two lowest scores for this one, with this being indulge's least favorite Janet single. I had legit forgotten Feedback was still in this lol. And yeah, the 'heavy like a first day period' line singlehandedly killed the song for me. If it wasn't for that I'd probably be a fan of it.
What I have left: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 16, 18, 22, 23, 24, 27, 30, 35, 39, 49
Biggest surprises - It shouldn't surprise me so much that I have 9 of my top 10 songs left, considering what those songs are, but I'm not used to doing so well going into any rankdown's top 20 lol. I am pretty shocked that the top ten I did lose is Scream - I thought that would at least make top 20. Hmm. I suppose I am a bit surprised about Someone To Call My Lover, which I didn't think was one of her more favored hits even from post-2000 never mind overall. The song is really fun and laidback though so I can kind of see how it snuck in. Other than that, nothing surprises me at all. We've reached the point where every elimination is going to hurt, even the ones that I ranked low (once it got to my top 50 it hurt me to have to rank anything that low).
Top 3...would be great if it were my top 3, wouldn't it! So many deserving options...I'll put my nonexistent money on Love Will Never Do, That's the Way Love Goes, and Rhythm Nation.
Doesn't Really Matter, All For You, and STCML can and likely will go next.
I think either Rhythm Nation or Velvet Rope will win the albums rankdown. Leaning a bit toward RN.

I'm expecting the Rhythm Nation singles to stick around longest, with "That's the Way Love Goes" or "All for You" ultimately winning because Pulse, Billboard, Pulse and Billboard. Those are two of her best songs so I can't even be bitter but I'd love a surprise #1.
Speaking of surprises, "Got 'til It's Gone" being eliminated so early is honestly disgraceful but I'm more impressed that out of Janet's three hit ballads, "Come Back to Me" ended up ranking higher than "Again".
"Someone to Call My Lover" can choke but I expect it to stick around longer than I'd like because we have some pop-leaning youngins participating. I'm thinking "I Get Lonely" and "Any Time, Any Place" are probably next to go but I hope I'm wrong!

Bummed to see "Throb" and "Go Deep" gone already. I think the top 10 will be good though given what's left. I want to root against AFY as #1. Of course I like it but I'd much prefer my #1 overall. Not sure how it will fair though. Looking forward to seeing the conclusion of this one!
#1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 #12, 13, 14, 15, 18, 19 #21, 22, 27 #32, 38 #61

Which song(s) are you most surprised is (are) in the top 19? Alright, Anytime Anyplace, Runaway - I adore these, but I didn't expect them to do better than "Feedback," "Control," or "Go Deep"
Which song(s) have you been most surprised to see miss the top 19? Feedback, Control, Go Deep
What's your prediction for the top 3? 1. All For You 2. That's The Way Love Goes 3. Rhythm Nation
Which song do you feel like has the best chance of winning? Honestly, idk. I'd love for a surprise win like WHYDFML, When I Think of You, Love Will Never Do (Without You), or If.
Which song do you personally want to see leave next? Nasty, The Pleasure Principle, or Rhythm Nation
Which album do you think will have the most songs in the top five? Hope - All For You, Realistically - Control or Rhythm Nation
Which album do you think will win the albums rankdown? The Velvet Rope

It is what took me out of Radio Disney/Teen Pop and pushed my tastes into the mainstream. That era is forever my favorite because I got to live it - my first Janet album before I knew about the blockbuster success of the previous four.

Finally Go Deep went out! That was my lowest remaining song (#49). I don't hate it (hard to hate any of top 50), but just don't like it as much as many others. Same, good to see Got 'Til It's Gone gone :)
BUT, quite sad to see Scream leave!! Really? That song has so much attitude in music, vocals, production, everything. Iconic. I do have to say though that I kept moving my top 10. Before I submitted the RD, I had Scream at #8 but in my final re-listen I bumped it up further. Again (like Black Cat) was a song I didn't care much when it was released, but then I grew to like it, and for this RD I was surprised that it ended up in my top 15. Anyway. Still have left: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 14, 15, 16, 18, 21, 22, 23, 25, 29, 37. So I definitely want my #37 to leave pretty soon :)
