Half of songs in the 58-47 range have ranks quite close to mine :)
In addition... good to see a couple of songs I was waiting for quite a while: Funny How Time Flies and What I'll Do. I heard both for the first time for this RD, and they were just blah for me and clearly in the bottom for me, even lower than Young Love
Sad to see some songs go too early: - Whoops Now: oh my gosh! I hadn't heard this song in ages. Actually when I bought Number Ones I tried to remember which was the last single I had heard from janet. after YWT and couldn't remember even though I did remember that it was a cute song I liked. It was great to rediscover it :) should've been top 50 - LUV: I remember Pulse discussions about having this as a second single... I still like it and think it was a missed opportunity for the Discipline era. Another song that was in my top 45. - Diamonds: sounds awesome as another great collabo, this time with a legend like Herb... so smooth and pleasant and buttery... - Best Things: WTF?! That beat is everything! And the collab actually works in terms of dynamics. May sound a bit dated but to me that adds to my liking it and ranking it #26. - The great forever: another WTF moment. In this case, this was a discovery for me in this RD and it was love at first listen! My favorite of her last album, with its euphoric chorus and melodic verses, effective instrumental and positive lyrics. They beat the sneeze, the MJ isn't dead reference and her sounding more like her brother than her. Biggest disappointment so far.

The Herb songs left too way too early :( Making Love In the Rain especially deserved better than being in the midst of the JJ/Dream Street purge. At least Diamonds made top 50, I guess? I always loved Diamonds so much. In comparison to Janet's own stuff it's lightweight, or feels like a Control outtake even. But it's such a bop! Other than that I can't say I'm too disappointed in the results so far. I'm losing a lot of my mid-range songs fairly early, but I've only lost three songs from my top 30 so far (the aforementioned two songs and With You) and hopefully that will remain the case until we actually reach the top 30 of the rankdown

Tie:
49. "The Best Things In Life Are Free" (Luther Vandross & Janet Jackson with Bell Biv DeVoe & Ralph Tresvant) from Mo' Money: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (1992) "I'll lose my sanity // tryin' to measure your intentions." ![](https://img.discogs.com/-XmHL7OsM1XZxUbmVeqKMJb_4R4=/fit-in/589x501/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-174482-1276448548.jpeg.jpg) This duet was originally released as a single from the Mo' Money soundtrack. It was later released in 1995 to promote Design of a Decade: 1986/1996 (except in the US, where the song was left off of that album). The original soundtrack version is an upbeat R&B song, however, a house mix done by CJ Mackintosh was used as a single version in the UK. The 1995 re-issue of the song used a new house mix done by K-Klass, despite the CJ mix being the version included on Design. The original version was brought back for inclusion on Number Ones/ The Best. This is one of the collaborations that I didn't know about until I bought Number Ones. As you can tell by my score, I was less than impressed. The CJ mix amps things up a bit, but it doesn't hide the fact that two legendary artists couldn't come up with anything better than this. 46. "What's It Gonna Be?!" (Busta Rhymes feat. Janet) from Extinction Level Event - The Final World Front (1998) "Gonna make, gonna make, gonna make your body wet // Gonna make, gonna make, gonna make you scream out, yeah."
![](https://img.discogs.com/8KdFfPESf-B71NssO46Zs5IlCpE=/fit-in/600x528/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-438535-1378151352-9659.jpeg.jpg) This raunchy track was released as the second single from Busta Rhymes' Extinction Level Event - The Final World Front album. The music video is similarly raunchy (and a tad creepy? at least I've always thought), and it is one of many Janet videos to land on the "most expensive videos ever made" list. In terms of this rankdown, this song had the third highest standard deviation out of all 75 tracks - meaning it was very polarizing. Average: 43.37 Standard Deviation: 19.793

45. "Every Time" from The Velvet Rope (1997) "I'm scared to fall in love // afraid to love so fast."
![](https://lastfm-img2.akamaized.net/i/u/ar0/07aea66525dd483ec851ecc30d7d2a5a) When I decided to do this rate, I resigned myself to the fact that this song would not do very well, but it's still a hard one to let go. Despite being a complete flop as a single, this has always been one of my favorite Janet songs. I've seen a lot of people say that she was trying to recreate "Again" with this song, and while that might be true, I actually prefer this one. It is one of her worst videos, though, I have to say. The underwater body double that's so clearly not her, but has an imitation of her lower back tattoo. Kii. Average: 42.63 Standard Deviation: 17.725

I would guess the stuff to exit next will be the more recent stuff that still remains. It will get really interesting when we get down to all the Control/Rhythm Nation/Janet/Velvet Rope material...

Surprised by some of the eliminations thus far (especially "Diamonds" and "What's It Gonna Be?!" like, what?) but I'm relieved that most of my lower-ranking songs have left with them. But looking at the list of remaining songs, "SKIPITNOW!" sticks out like a sore thumb. TIMETOGO!

Guess who just bought State of the World Tour tickets? I'm shoook. Anyway, back to the rankdown... 44. "So Excited" (feat. Khia) from 20 Y.O. (2006) "Forget about them other girls, baby // 'cause now you're dealing with a woman, baby."
![](https://lastfm-img2.akamaized.net/i/u/770x0/9b69c77b515a49128d10a7001ca9961d.jpg#9b69c77b515a49128d10a7001ca9961d) Here we have one of Janet's more interesting collaboration choices. I'm not sure why the woman famous for "My Neck, My Back" was at the top of her list for collaborators, but considering how much fun "So Excited" is, I can't say that I'm mad about it. I've only seen the video once or twice, but I remember her shirt constantly getting ripped off or something like that. REMIX RECOMMENDATION: The Bimbo Jones mix. Now that we've eliminated the final single from it... Albums Rankdown: 9. JANFT* - 20 Y.O. (2006)
![](https://lastfm-img2.akamaized.net/i/u/770x0/a0efc378ed3c6b999a73104c370990c3.jpg#a0efc378ed3c6b999a73104c370990c3) 1. (Intro) 20 2. So Excited (feat. Khia) (#44)
3. Show Me 4. Get It Out Me 5. Do It 2 Me 6. This Body 7. 20 Part 2 (Interlude) 8. With U (#57) 9. Call On Me (Janet feat. Nelly) (#59)
10. 20 Part 3 (Interlude) 11. Daybreak 12. Enjoy 13. 20 Part 4 (Interlude) 14. Take Care 15. Love 2 Love 16. (Outro) 20 Part 5 17. Roll Witchu - Japan Bonus Track 18. Days Go By - Japan Bonus Track Janet's 2006 album has always been polarizing among fans. Some consider it one of her most underrated albums, while others consider it her weakest effort this side of Control. Personally, it took me years to get into this album. It lacked a really strong single to keep me hooked, and overall I'm just not a huge fan of the first half of the album. I do think it's sequenced nicely, though, and it has one of my favorite album tracks, "Enjoy". Can we also reminisce on the ugly ass fanmade covers that were available in place of the regular cover in the US? I know the album wasn't going to be a huge success, but certainly those covers only made matters worse. I had the cover with the Velvet Rope era picture, but I sold it once I was able to find a cheap enough copy of the import. Average: 8 Standard Deviation: 2.0825 - Active Aggressive 6 - @phillippe 7 - @antigonerising 8 - weaver 10 - Ginger Spice 10 - bat1990 10 - God Tagged: Mirago Leigh

But looking at the list of remaining songs, "SKIPITNOW!" sticks out like a sore thumb. TIMETOGO! Your wish is my command... 43. "BURNITUP!" (feat. Missy Elliott) from Unbreakable (2015) "When the DJ play this // we gon' dance like no one's watching"
![](https://lastfm-img2.akamaized.net/i/u/770x0/bbd7e292e644af448672dc71e01e4674.jpg#bbd7e292e644af448672dc71e01e4674) The third single from Unbreakable, "BURNITUP!" has Missy Elliott return for her third collaboration with Janet. With the majority of Unbreakable taking on more serious subject matters, "BURNITUP!" is a care-free dance song. The song took longer to grow on me than I anticipated, but I eventually warmed up to it. The song was the opener of her 2015 Unbreakable World Tour. It actually had one of the lower standard deviations, but I know at least two people who will not be happy about this song leaving. Average: 40.704 Standard Deviation: 15.76

I loved the Junior Vasquez and Eddie Baez remixes of "So Excited." The former sampled "Let The Music Play" while the latter was a dark, peak hour tear-off-your-shirt anthem.

What's It Gonna Be?!: should've been higher. Really like the production here and Janet elevates the song Every Time: was just too samey, flat for me... good to see it go So Excited: the sample of Rock It made me like it more than I should --fair final rank BURNITUP!: I wanted to like it more, but it's not as strong as it could be --fair final rank too

Hey y'all. Sorry that this is moving slower than I intended. I've been sick for the past few days and I've just now caught up on all my schoolwork, so this has been the last thing on my mind. But the updates should stay pretty consistent from now on. 42. "Just A Little While"from Damita Jo (2004) "Baby, I like it when it feels this good."
![](https://lastfm-img2.akamaized.net/i/u/770x0/959c70728a8e4cddcceffc4c2bc1f580.jpg#959c70728a8e4cddcceffc4c2bc1f580) The clue for this one was a picture of DVD-Rs, which is a reference to the music video. In the video, Janet makes several DVDs of herself and sends them to her lover. "Just A Little While" was the lead single to Damita Jo in 2004, and unfortunately many factors affected its performance. The most obvious is the fact that this song was released the day after the Superbowl incident, and she was effectively blacklisted by both MTV and Clear Channel, causing the song to only peak at 45 on the Hot 100. The single also leaked before its official release, a concept that was new to the industry at the time and caused Janet and team to rush the music video and release, something that she discussed on her DVD, From janet. to Damita Jo. The song was also the poppiest song on the album, and effectively was placed on the end of the tracklisting, as it did not really fit in with the rest of the album. Average: 41.222 Standard Deviation: 13.177

I've been sick for the past few days I hope you're feeling better. Getting sick sucks. Especially at the start of a new schoolyear. 42. "Just A Little While" I love the Peter Rauhofer remix of this.

If it's not the Love Me (Just Blaze Remix) I really have no use for the song unless it randomly pops up.

I've said this before but I think the Jam & Lewis remix of "Every Time" could've made for a stronger single had Janet just simply re-recorded her vocals for it. Speaking of remixes If it's not the Love Me (Just Blaze Remix) I really have no use for the song unless it randomly pops up. Y*************S!
