Shania Twain took 15 years to follow up her diamond album Up! In fact, she had 3 diamond albums in a row before the break.

But I agree, I hope it doesn't take 15 years lol. She seems to keep heavily implying she wants more kids, which is making me nervous she’s gonna have like 2 more in the next few years and (understandably) want time with all of them while they’re little. So that would be like at least another 5 years to the album in that scenario #welp

She definitely lost the passion for music and that's really fine, she gave us enough iconic hits. I don't even think people want a proper era with 3-4-5 singles like Loud, GGGB or Anti from her, just some new material to stream, and if she's still into music I think she would find a month, two or three to focus on it.
BUT I'm happy for Rih, her music really marked my teenage years and ANTI will forever be a masterpiece.

That's why I snatched up the Anti vinyl when I saw it in Target. It's the closest we'll get to a magnum opus from her.

Ngl, a soundtrack single for a Smurfs sequel is about the last possible way I want her to have her big musical “comeback”… but like also if it’s terrible and flops that’s not good optics for her either after all this time

So...she said she has "not enough songs finished for a new album".

Rihanna can do whatever it is she wants to do and when she makes music like with the Smurfs, we will love it. Artists can take breaks. Look at someone like Cher. Her recording career began in 1963 so for over 60 years she has done stuff BUT with long breaks whenever she felt like a break. Cher did the same with movies. She did them then would take long times between. The big difference between the two artists is in between projects, Rihanna does work on all her businesses dealings, while between projects, Cher does not work at all. So like Cher, Rianna will go on and on and on and on and on for DECADES. What Rihanna and Cher have in common is their talent and that they both do whatever it is they feel like doing. Whenever they do something new, we are interested because they do not overdo.

Why do I feel like if she does drop the album it wouldn’t do well due to how much music has evolved and people don’t buy albums anymore, they just want a bunch of singles ( In my Beyoncé voice).

I’m trying to be optimist as best as I can for the Smurf music but I feel like best case scenario we get a can’t stop the feeling which for me is mid at best (but would obviously be great from a chart standpoint). Don’t forget, Rihanna already did an animated movie , home, and I never see any of those songs even whispered about

Why would we love Smurf music automatically? That didn't work with Black Panther which was way more promising of a collab.
She's not interested in dropping another album and at this point I'm OK. ANTI was a career high so at least it stopped on a high note. What does Rihanna even sound like 8 years later? I have no idea and I don't think she knows either.

IF (that word has never been more relevant) she was actually close to having R9 ready, she should absolutely sit on it until next year. This year is just insane for high profile releases, and all signs point to it more or less continuing throughout the year. Which means we will be in a major drought next year for the big releases, almost guaranteed. She could own the entire zeitgeist with a major 2025 comeback in that climate. It’s been 8 years already, obviously 9 doesn’t matter now. Not that I think the album is anywhere close to done mind you, just humoring her recent comments that (as usual) imply she’s working on it.

There’s an alternate timeline where she never left, never stopped with the fire bops, and to this day Taylor was still trying to catch up to her streaming crown. Alas

Yeah she just got 4 new Diamond singles: - "Umbrella"
- "Needed Me"
- "Work"
- "Stay" (11x platinum - her highest certified song)
"Diamonds" and "We Found Love" were already Diamond, so she now has 6 total.
