Honestly, Wild Thoughts kind of missed it's shot. It may be able to notch a #2 peak, but that's as far as I think it will go. By the time Despacito loses momentum, Taylor or TØP or Eminem will have released something and took over the #1 spot. Iv forgotten about Eminem. He's only released 2 albums this decade and is within the top 30 artists. I hope he releases soon I love the guys music and he seriously could have a bid for top 10 of the decade if he releases 2 widely successful albums. Number 1 doesn't have to be an accomplishment. The fact that it debuted at 4, then went up a position, is a great feat. Had that been how the discussion was framed from jump street, no one would have disagreed. This is more about the posters who were saying it was going to jump to #1 within a matter of a few weeks. Exactly this. Many people were claiming that Despacito only had 2 or 3 more weeks at number one due to WT edit: combined my 2 posts. hopefully glove slap is happy :)

Idk why everyone is overhyping upcoming releases.
Eminem isn't going to dent the charts unless he features Rihanna. I also think that Taylor Swift is gonna suffer a similar fate as The Weeknd, Katy Perry, & Lady Gaga were her new Music doesn't dent as much as it used to.

'Starboy' spent 19 weeks in the Top 10, the same amount of weeks as 'Can't feel my face' 'The Hills' had 21 but only because it was kind of a sleeper hit Eminem won't go straight to #1. Taylor Swift might. And TOP... Lmao what? heavydirtysoul didn't even chart although they were very hyped then

Starboy may have spent a lot of weeks in the top 10 but you cannot say that Starboy was a more successful album than BBTM. I LOVE Starboy too.

I also think that Taylor Swift is gonna suffer a similar fate as The Weeknd, Katy Perry, & Lady Gaga were her new Music doesn't dent as much as it used to. Swift and Eminem may disappoint; hard to know. But there is also reason to think they will smash. Taylor Swift has been increasing in popularity in terms of her singles; "Shake It Off" was her biggest lead single yet in term of the Hot 100, and then she followed it up with 4 more top 10s (she'd never had that many top 10s off an album). In other words, her momentum rose last album, it didn't decline (whereas Perry's last album showed a decline in how her singles did overall, similar to what happened with Lady Gaga who had been in decline from Born This Way on). And as has been pointed out, The Weeknd had a huge lead single with "Starboy," so I don't get how he is an example of someone who didn't dent. I think a better example for your point might be Bruno Mars as he gained momentum with his second album, and then "24k Magic" dropped and did well, but it wasn't quite the blockbuster many of us expected before hearing it. I think on some level we all recognize nothing is a sure thing and hype/predictions are speculation, but there is also a difference in speculation based on fanboy wishes and speculation based on actual facts and context. There is a factual basis for thinking Taylor Swift could slay with her next lead single, for instance; even if she doesn't, that doesn't change that the potential is currently there.

TOP is very big and recently almost had their first number one hit with "heathens." Stressed out also peaked at number 2 despite having spent months climbing the charts and also being out of the top 10

I love all the references in the Billboard article that Despacito is the first single since "Shape Of You"
to
Dominate all 3 components Spend 10 weeks at #1 on digital
Next week we can add 10 weeks at #1 to the list of chart firsts since "Shape Of You"

And yet Taylor Swift still has MASSIVE pull. The day 1989 came on Spotify, 4 tracks in the top 200. Just this year alone with only 6 days of streaming, IDWLF debuted at 6 and made it to two and she was only featured. If there's any artist that's gonna make a dent with new music it'll be her.

It wasn't supposed I be a hit and it was released almost two years after the album, and it's very non-radio friendly. More of an album closer.

It failed to return to #1 and his next single didn't even chart. It's possible Zayn could have been the reason it got so high, but there is just as much reason Taylor could have been the reason and no one can definitely say either way so there is no point in discussing it. Also, note what was said earlier about 1989 and her previous albums when they were first added to Spotify recently.

I'm not saying that TS had no impact on its chart run, im just saying that she didn't carry it, and Zayn helped. Pillow talk was also a solid top 10 hit, returning to number 4 for a few weeks then fading out naturally. the only other 1D member with a top10 hit flailed the f**k out the next week and never even returned

It doesn't necessarily have to be a superstar first single release to be the next number one. When Ed Sheeran, Bruno, and Kendrick were all smashing who would have guessed that a Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee song (even with Bieber added) would be the big summer smash? Also a viral meme could drive someone like Playboi Carti to the top. You never know.

And BB specifically was very listenable to and was streamed without the maniquan challenge quite much

Hot 100 has been a mess this year. I understand why streaming was included but these multiple 10-week-number-one songs per year are a bore.

They choose to stream the same songs over and over. It's not billboard's fault. I know I'm one of those people. I had mask off on repeat for months.

Even songs that have massive percetange gains on sales like TNHMB and Attention this week barely crack top 15 and drop the next week.

Even songs that have massive percetange gains on sales like TNHMB and Attention this week barely crack top 15 and drop the next week. The key fact is that people have decided to stop buying songs. Sales no longer represents a plurality of the song market. Doesn't stop songs like Despacito from racking up humungous sales anyways, though.

If That's What I Like maintains consistency, and Shape Of You pulls a Paris/Earned It and just starts freefalling, do you think Bruno could get the year end? Earned It is a really weird example. It took 17 weeks to go from top 10 to off the hot 100, which is definitely above average. I mean it's no See You Again but it didn't really freefall either Just for the sake of proving that point, here's a bunch of other top 10 hits in 2015 and how long they took to go below 50 Thinking Out Loud: 26 See You Again: 30 (Got kicked out at the 52 week mark but it had just gone 45-49 so I think it was done anyway.) Sugar: 21 Blank Space: 17 Watch Me: 16 The Hills: 17 Cheerleader: 12 Can't Feel My Face: 20 Love Me Like You Do: 15 Take Me To Church: 11 Bad Blood: 9 Lean On: 24 Want To Want Me: 20 Shake It Off: 25 Where Are U Now: 18 Fight Song: 11 679: 18 Lips Are Movin': 11 Honey, I'm Good: 14 I'm Not The Only One: 13 Good For You: 9 All About That Bass: 19 Style: 14 Hotline Bling: 11 Hey Mama: 8 G.D.F.R.: 9 What Do You Mean?: 10 Photograph: 12 Hello: 8 Jealous: 11 Time Of Our Lives: 12 Locked Away: 12 Somebody: 13 FourFiveSeconds: 5 (LOL FLOP) Centuries: 13 My Way: 16 Animals: 13 Nasty Freestyle: 11 Love Me Harder: 8 Wildest Dreams: 14 The Heart Wants What It Wants: 12 Drag Me Down: 19 (This is a weird one because it debuted in the top 10 then fell out and stabilized) Ex's And Oh's: 19 Like I'm Gonna Lose You: 11 Habits (Stay High): 12 Lay Me Down: 9 Don't: 12 This... wasn't my point

If Shape of You and Despacito's airplay crush 5M per day from now on and unavailable on Spotify and Apple Music, then Bruno has a chance. Or there's no way he can beat Despacito

I have a feeling that Shape of You, That's What I Like, Despacito can all pass 30 weeks in top 10 mark. It's crazy to think that before the chart year of 2017, only 3 song got that, and now Closer (achieved on 3/11/17), Shape of You (4 weeks to go!), TWIL (9 weeks to go) and Despacito (18 weeks to go! Coincidentally it's gonna consummate it on the very last week of this chart year) can all add to this very exclusive club and make it 7
