Why do I start what I can't finish?

I don't have the benefit of being alive in 1996. The songs I hate aren't the same ones that were hated back then, because I don't know what was hated back then, so I can't judge off that. This was a bad song, but I wouldn't have thought it bad enough to be this low. I need to gain more hindsight into the opinions of the 90s before I do more of these.

Next up, an act who scored its first Top 10 hit in 1979. While their only 90s Top 10 hit was this song in 1996, they experienced a rather large resurgence about 10 years ago.

I think not having that outside influence could be a good thing, almost refreshing because you're going into it with less bias than someone who was around to experience the songs as they are. The downside of course is that it's not as easy to judge a large list of songs like this in a short amount of time. But I would say it's a good thing if you don't have the hindsight into opinions of the 90s. That provides an alternate perspective of the music that I for one am unable to really capture because I'm too involved.

Up next, a band whose lead singer always sounded similar to Alex Band of the Calling. (When The Calling first came out, I wondered whether it was the same guy on vocals).
Let's see if that's enough of a clue...

This better be Hootie and the Blowfish. The first time I heard him I thought he was a poor man's Scott Weiland

Please, kill all the Hootie songs. No wonder Rucker became a country singer.
Though I do kinda like OWBWY.
I can't be the only one who like the pisser..I mean, R. Kelly.

Dammit, I think all the Hootie songs are in my bottom 15. Blues Traveler, maybe? I never liked them either.

I was saddened to see this song so low. I figure it's because people didn't know it but I love it... even if it didn't even make my top 50. It's still such a great song!

#98: YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS this is the best birthday present you all could have given me! THANK YOU ALL! I will fully admit my own bias - there are not words to express what a sociopathic monster he is and not until he is dead or finally put in jail where he belongs will I ever bring myself to separate the man from the music. There is only one R. Kelly song that I would consider not intentionally sinking in a rankdown and that song wasn't released in 1996. That said, objectively speaking if I had rated it based on the song and not on how I feel about R. Kelly it probably still would have only been in the 80s for me. I Can't Sleep Baby was never one of his more popular hits even by '90s standards and is mostly forgotten when people discuss his musical legacy now. It probably landed this low for the same reason CMB did - it's just a cheesy, bland r&b ballad that hasn't held up over time. I ranked it considerably higher than you did but any use of this gif always gets a good laugh from me.

Wait, Bryan Adams was still relevant in the mid-90s after Everything I Do I Do It For You?

Oh boy, I hate Journey. But I also hate Bryan Adams. He threatened to sue AllMusic.com unless every bit of information about him was erased. They're a reference publication. That's like suing the dictionary. They didn't have to just delete negative reviews, they can't even list basic information like his name or his albums. Rock stars have been assholes since the dawn of time, but I have never heard of an artist using their power to bully critics into erasing reviews! This offends me on a level I didn't even realize I was capable of!
Fuck you, Bryan Adams, you censoring dick! Fuck you and fuck all of Canada too!
