With that, it's time for our first album spotlight!
Album Spotlight: The Hits
Released: October 2, 2007 Label: Warner Bros. Nashville Producer: Gary Burr, Mike Clute, Byron Gallimore, Scott Hendricks, Faith Hill, Dann Huff Runtime: 59min 10sec AllMusic Rating: 4/5
Tracklist: 1. Red Umbrella 2. Stronger (Live) 3. I Need You (w/ Tim McGraw) 4. Lost 5. Mississippi Girl 6. Lost 7. There You'll Be 8. The Way You Love Me (Radio Remix) 9. Breathe (Pop Version) 10. The Secret of Life 11. Let Me Let Go 12. This Kiss (Pop Version) 13. It Matters To Me 14. Piece of My Heart 15. Wild One
-Faith's statement prior to the release of the album: "Itβs been difficult selecting the songs for The Hits. But when we decided to focus on what youβd want, the decisions became much clearer. Weβre planning on newer, different versions of some songs and weβve got a few new surprises on The Hits. Leave it to me, I wouldβve made a whole album of surprises, but then it wouldnβt have been The Hits and it wouldnβt be coming out on October 2nd."
-Ultimately, the live version of "Stronger" (an album track from Cry), a more country sounding "Let Me Let Go" and pop remixes of "Breathe", "The Way You Love Me", and "This Kiss" are the only tracks that differ from their album versions.
-A special edition companion DVD was also available for a little while, containing some of Faith's music videos.
Country Airplay Peaks: Red Umbrella - 28 Lost - 32
Rankdown Placements: 29. Lost 31. Red Umbrella
Album Tracks: None, as there were no album tracks from this album.

I always forget how "Love Ain't Like That" goes... like right now looking at that post, I have no idea what it sounds like at all.
"Lost" is a standard beautiful ballad, but it's also something I never got too attached to, mostly because it wasn't big. She has better ones.

This is, in my opinion, the gold standard of original Christmas songs. Her vocals in this song leaves me shook! Honestly, with this song she secures herself a position among her pop diva contemporaries like Mariah and Celine, proving that she is not limited to the country genre either commercially or vocally, and can contribute to a soundtrack and end up defining the entire thing and give the project commercial legs it otherwise would not have had, like only the biggest superstars can do (think of Celine with "Beauty and the Beast"). Her use of low register and high register in this song is masterful, and just sounds so diva-y.
Of course this song was bound to have haters, as it is a Christmas song. zaclord π was bold enough to select this as his #1! And the risk somewhat paid off, as this did perform a bit better here than Christmas songs usually do in rankdowns. This song was even in the top 20 for much of the submission process! It takes out 10 top 20s, including 2 top 5s. It also takes out 9 bottom 10s, as well as 2 #40s.

Wow, I'm actually surprised this has the highest standard deviation... As a Faith fan I don't think I've listened to this song more than maybe 5 times (one of them being while doing my ranking for this). As I said before, I don't have any sort of connection with xmas songs, so this was an easy last place for me.

Album Spotlight: Joy To the World
Released: September 30, 2008 Label: Warner Bros. Nashville Producer: Byron Gallimore, Faith Hill, Dann Huff Runtime: 36min 48sec AllMusic Rating: 2.5/5
Tracklist: 1. Joy to the World 2. What Child is This? 3. Santa Claus is Coming to Town 4. Little Drummer Boy 5. O Come All Ye Faithful 6. Holly Jolly Christmas 7. Away in a Manger 8. O Holy Night 9. Winter Wonderland 10. Silent Night 11. A Baby Changes Everything
-"Joy to the World" and "O Holy Night" have both been offered as free digital downloads at various times, "Joy" being part of a holiday mixtape from Oprah Winfrey, and "Night" being the iTunes holiday song of the week once. -"Joy to the World", "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town", "Little Drummer Boy", and "O Come All Ye Faithful" all charted, although "A Baby Changes Everything" was the only official single released from the album. "Where Are You, Christmas?" was not featured on this album, despite being her most popular Christmas song. Probably because it came out in 2000, so it was old af by the time this album came along Still, I chose to feature the album once that song was eliminated from the rankdown because it makes sense thematically. But technically this album was the first to go, since "Baby" was eliminated at #40!
Country Airplay Peaks: A Baby Changes Everything - 36 (#1 Hot AC)
Rankdown Placements: 40. A Baby Changes Everything

This has always been their most epic duet, imo. I agree with the majority that their duets are never among my favorites , but this one I have never thought deserved all the hate that it gets. Tim and Faith both sound great here, and thanks to the music video we can see that they both LOOK great as well, and see that their sizzling chemistry is incredibly sexy. Seriously though, that music video is #relationshipgoals...
This song sees only one top 10 loss, but takes three #40s down with it. Which means that there are only 4 #40s left! fearlessarrow, andrewantonio, Cody Wants Out..., and toomuchboy.

Lost my bottom 2 back-to-back. Heck yes! I actually like both of these too (which goes to show how great Faith Hill's music is), but this is one of the Tim duets where she has the most minimal part so I couldn't justify ranking it any higher and that Christmas song while good wasn't enough to beat the Xmas bias since I'm not a huge fan of Xmas tunes (at least as they relate to the rest of her regular singles). I'd almost forgotten "Where Are You Christmas?" was even still in honestly though 'cause I expected it out earlier, and I'm still bitter everyone loves it and not "A Baby Changes Everything," which is like 10x better to me. :'(
ETA: Damn, I love "Let's Make Love." Her voice on it is just magic. Ugh. Too soon. </3

I'm happy "WAY,C?" made it this far considering holiday songs are always slaughtered in rankdowns here. It's one of my absolute favorite Christmas songs. (And pretty much the only reason my family saw that awful Grinch movie, and then bought me the soundtrack, lol...)
So many other great songs gone, too--"Red Umbrella," "Lost," "Come Home," "American Heart." I'm much more attached to the majority of Faith's singles than Tim's.

I couldn't stand Speak to a Girl when it first came out but it has grown on me a little since then. There is just something in the way that she speaks the words that I find annoying. Come home, Where are You Christmas and Love Ain't Like That are decent songs and i think that they end up at right places. I probably like Red Umbrella a little bit more than I should. It's just kind of guilty pleasure for me. I have a soft spot for "everything's gonna be alright" songs and this song suits the description perfectly. I underranked It's your Love for a few spots because Faiths part is so small but i like this song very much. I am very surprised that Let's Make Love is out already. It's just such a good song with nice melody and their voices sound beautiful together.

I'm late to the party, I'm just now seeing this! This is my first time taking part in a rankdown, and I'm loving it! Some thoughts up to now...
- I'm not surprised to see A Baby Changes Everything at #40. I tried to like that song, but I just couldn't get into it.
- I'm not surprised either to see so many Cry singles so low (I hope Cry lands in the top ten!). I'm still mad that they remixed You're Still Here. The original was so beautiful and the country version took away the beautiful instrumentation and made the song more boring, imo.
- I've always kind of wondered what happened with But I Will. I know it's not her best ballad by any means, but after two back to back #1's and #2 after, it's weird to see this song only get to #35. I'm just glad the third single barely making the top 40 didn't prevent the incredible Take Me As I Am from becoming a single and doing very well.
- Seeing Come Home and American Heart so low is not surprising either, and I still hate that at least one of these songs didn't do well enough to get the album out...Why did they never even release it!? I remember back in 2011/12 being so pumped for a new Faith album, and it seemed like they were all set to release it and everything, then both singles underperformed and it was just completely forgotten. Did they decide to just shelf the album when the singles didn't do as well as they hoped? I even remember reading where Faith had recorded enough songs for two albums, yet we didn't even get one. At this point, I do wonder if we'll ever get a new solo album from Faith again...
- I have absolutely zero recollection of Love Ain't Like That ever being a single. I know it only got to #12 on the charts, but I listed to country radio a lot in the mid-late 90's and can't ever remember hearing this song. Also, why did this one peak so low? At this point in her career, she only missed the top ten once (But I Will). To me, it's one of her more boring singles, but I still would have thought that at that point in her career, anything she released would have gone top ten. I also find it interesting that this song peaked at #68 on the Hot 100 while the much-bigger JTHYSTYLM didn't make the Hot 100 at all. But the way I understand, that chart worked different back in the 90's. I've just always found the mystery behind Love Ain't Like That strange ever since I learned that it was a single.
- I can't believe It's Your Love is so low on this list! I get that it's more of a Tim song, but still...I love this one. I even had a couple friends sing it at my wedding last year, and it was amazing! I guess maybe I'm not so surprised that it peaked this low, but more surprised that it's one of the lowest of their duets.
I can't wait to see the rest of the rankdown!

I am just now catching up here as I was gone for the weekend.
- LOL WHAT at 'One' and 'Baby You Belong' both out. Those are amazing songs. 'You're Still Here' is a total snore, though, so I am fine with that 'Cry' single departing us so fast. WTLGD next, please.
- WHERE ARE YOU CHRISTMAS IS A GEM AND THOSE OF YOU WHO RANKED IT IN THE BOTTOM HALF DONT DESERVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Love Ain't Like That has always been a favorite of mine, but I knew it was going to place poorly. I wish it had been a bigger single, as I much prefer it to some of her huge hits.
Not too bad overall, though I hope Cry and Stronger can buck the trend and make it deep despite being from the Cry album. I will just Cry if that's not the case.

Due to the back-to-back-to-back losses of "One", "Baby You Belong", and "You're Still Here", the Cry album is already down to 2 songs! "When the Lights Go Down" and "Cry" remain. Are y'all still confident in your predictions that those will do well??? I just realized "Stronger" is still on... so we have 3 "Cry" songs still on...

Though I thought the same thing about Shania, and look what's finally happening this year, so maybe? I would so love a new Faith album.

I'd be absolutely shocked if we don't get a new album from Faith Hill in the next couple years. She literally just signed a new deal with Sony, and it wasn't just so that she and Timmy could do a duets album (she could've done that w/o signing on with the label when her husband moved over). I'm not sure what the hold-up seems to be with the duets project and why we've heard nothing after "Speak to a Girl" underperformed, but I feel confident that both of them will have solo projects out next year or by 2019 at the latest.

I was extremely disappointed in the show when I saw them both just last week. I agree her heart isn't in it like it once was.
