Yay, the two songs I predicted would miss the top 5 ended up missing the top 5! I like them both a lot, I am just celebrating the fact that my prediction was correct :)
Also OMG my #1 made the top 5!!!!!!! So did my #14, but OMG so did my #1!!!!!!!!
Here is my new prediction for how the rest plays out:
5. I Don't Trust Myself 4. Marquee Sign 3. Like The Way You Love Me 2. I Need a River 1. Long Way Down
5, 4, and 3 are pretty much interchangeable depending on whatever logic I tell myself at that given moment.
I still think "Long Way Down" has the best shot, although "I Need a River" is enough peoples' favorite that I cannot confidently say that it will miss the top spot... I think it's between those 2 though.

Ugh, now that I think about it a little more, literally everything here is a dark horse candidate to win it, or at least sneak into the #2 slot... But I still think it's between "Long Way" and "River".

Unfortunately I predicted both of those in order. Now I can only hope my predictions continue to be accurate. Bye Bye "River"!

I think Words is a stellar album, but All The Love You Left Me may be my least favorite thing she has ever recorded since the debut album. It is absolutely dreadful. HATE IT.
Rain and Fire is really standing the test of time with me. It is so different for her and I like the unique subject matter.

The way she sings "all the love you left me left me left me" annoys the hell outta me and prevented me from enjoying an otherwise decent song

Our first casualty as we move into the Top 5 comes at the expense of another pair of #1s, and this time it's bboat11 and codyj100 who say farewell. A pair of #14s are also gone with this elimination as well, with recordyear and bigfan101 tying for the second-to-last to lose their last place rank. Sadly, this now means that bboat11 is our only participant with his #14 still in. Not the best news for him, unfortunately. Most of us slotted this one in the middle, and it received a lot of #5 placements, so this finish seems fitting. "Like the Way You Love Me" is a song that begins innocently enough, but then out of nowhere that explosive chorus hits with some incredible belting from Sara. Her vocal excellence is shown off so masterfully on this song, both from the high notes that she hits in the chorus and from the sexy lower moments during the verses. Solid lyrics and instrumentation are present here, but it's the vocal performance that really seals the deal on this one. Glad to see this made the Top 5. "I've been with the devil, loved by a saint Everything in between Everything that you ain't"

This is the song that I meant to commemt before. The post chorus is terrible imo. It sounds like she's having an electric shock.

Okay, I can understand ranking this song somewhere in the middle of the album. But people ranked it in their bottom 2??!!! If I scratch my head any harder I might accidentally scalp myself.

Rain and Fire" annoys me a bit and I still think "All the Love You Left Me" better than this.
"Like the Way You Love Me" is another favorite of mine I would have it on Top3.
I guess "Marquee Sign" or "Long Way Down" have good chances to be #1 but I hope not "I Need a River".

This is literally the only song I couldn't get into on the album...something about the transition from the verses to the chorus is jarring to me.

The highest ranking and final song to bow out without a single #1 placement was entrusted with a Top 5 finish in spite of this due to a high number of upper half rankings. It also out-ranked the #5 song by a single point. A lot of us (4 to be exact, myself included) slotted this one in at #2, and a lot more placed this in the top half of their lists, with only two dropping it into their second-to-last slot. "I Don't Trust Myself" is one of the most dramatic ballads on the album. While "Like the Way You Love Me" has an epic chorus, this one has that AND the verses to match. The build and melody of the verses as Sara contemplates and anticipates each wrong move that she could make if she gives in even just once to the slightest of things, leading into the frantic pleading in the anthemic chorus is a wonderful journey. Her voice sounds absolutely heavenly on the entire composition and the tension and despair in her vocals is so noticeable. Beautiful. "So damn this heart Put the cork back in the bottle One thing always leads to another"

Oh wow, I am a little surprised to see this song beat "Marquee Sign"! I love them both, and honestly would give my personal edge to MS, but in all the reviews and stuff I have heard this one seems to be a more consistent favorite than "Marquee Sign". I think this one might even be Sara's favorite on the album, because she has name dropped it a lot more than every other song on the album in the weeks since the album released.
Anyway, my favorite part of this song is when she gets to the bridge and her voice gets all soft and high on "So maybe I'll just close my eyes." It's not any higher than the rest of the song, but the sudden mix of head voice/chest voice was an attention-grabbing shift after the rest of the song up to that point had been full chest voice. A very deserving top 5 placement for this song!

A very deserving top 5 placement for this song! Has she really? I got the vibe that her favorites were the title track ( ) and "All the Love You Left Me" because those were the two album tracks I feel like she's mentioned the most/performed/highlighted in some way that I've seen. I would love for that to be the case though because "I Don't Trust Myself" shits all over both of those imo, especially "Words." It makes me sad to think if I see her live again in support of this album that I'll probably have to endure a wasted performance slot on "Words" and not hear hardly any of the great songs on this new album. I loooove that part, too! My favorite vocal moment though is the way she twangs the word "cork" in the second verse and somehow manages to almost make it a 1.5 syllable word, if that makes sense. I'm sure you know what I mean though, haha. I really just love her phrasing on that line there. Out of all the songs on the album, I think it would probably lend itself best to an absolutely epic video treatment.

The chorus of "I Don't Trust Myself" is really bothersome to me. Something about this song gives me slight anxiety while listening to it, lol. I'm not sure why.

The final song to miss out on our Top 2 takes my #1 down as well as one other, and a whole bunch of Top 3 ranks, too. It does also have the distinction of clearing out our final #14 holdout of the game, courtesy of bboat11. This one kept a pretty firm grip on the #3 slot during the submission process, but it never came close to securing a higher finish as our ultimate Top 2 ran away with this pretty decisively. "I Need a River" is one of the most rootsy and classically country-in-sound track on the album. Laden with a lot of fiddle and dobro that gives it an earthy charm, it matches the lyrical content of summer escapism and Sara's rousing and cheery vocal performance. From the moment I first listened to the opening instrumentation of this song, I knew it was going to be a highlight and it became my #1 favorite on Words almost instantly. I love everything about how this one is written, produced, and sung, and I'm glad it could make it as far as it did in this game! "I'm gonna slow this whole thing down On this not-so-merry-go-round"
