Its a miracle that I enjoyed a Garth Brooks song You may think that now, but I am honestly not surprised. "The Thunder Rolls" is an epic masterpiece! It would have been my #1 had I participated Everyone gives Garth a bad rap because he makes his music so inaccessible, but despite my dislike for his sales tactics, I will be the first to admit that a significant portion of his huge hits from the early '90s are absolutely fantastic. It just so happens that Garth hasn't released a good song during any of the years that country rankdowns have happened yet, so I haven't had any reasons to stand up for him yet...

Oh, @antigonerising IDK whether this occurred to you before; but since you said you picked 'Appetite' because you thought Katharine gave off a bit of a witchy vibe, could you not say she could be the witch from Hansel & Gretel with all the candy references? Just a thought. :kii:
I really liked Garth's song at first listen as well (and I looked up his version on YouTube when doing this so I never even heard Tanya's version). Shame it's already out. :(

As the only song in the rankdown to get both a #1 and a #50 ranking, it's no surprise that this is our highest SD right here. It's our first #1 elimination, and only #1 to exit before reaching the top half of the rankdown. *sad face* This song also was involved in the first of two average ties in the rankdown. Ties were broken by median, and Kesha fell behind the #34 song by 4.5 points there.

As far as early Kesha is concerned, I'm either totally for it or totally against it. This was firmly in the latter category.
I'm not making any friends this rankdown, am I? :(

There's an interview somewhere, where Jessie describes this song as dark and kind of creepy. Of course, I can't find it now. I only remember that b/c I disagreed so much with her - the swelling strings are too, too pretty for me to ever think of this song as ominous or foreboding in any kind of way. That said, the lyrics do kind of read like she's in love with a ghost, and according to an unreviewed annotation on genius.com she wrote this song for her husband because Jessie has a fear of the dark and thinks of him as her protector from all scary things. So there's that to work with, at least.

This might very well be the kitschiest song of them all, and that's saying quite a lot considering how kitschy Halloween as a whole tends to be.

I think I'll call tonight a short night. Coming up next: yet another bloodthirsty woman; all but one monster; Dominique Moceanu; one anguished individual; and two more voodoo princesses.

I kind of expected "Time Warp" to go out a bit earlier, actually...but geez, "People Are Strange" deserved better than bottom twenty. That song's a classic.

With Time Warp, my bottom 5 is out. Yay! Lol However, I'm also pretty sad that two of my top 20s have already left: - Gods and Monsters (11): This was a first listen for me, and I really re=ally liked this one from Lana. Great discovery! - People are Strange (15): what the heck?! This is a classic and a superb song. It should've been higher!!
By the way, The Thunder Rolls was another solid first-listen for me! Great instrumentation, dark vibe, solid song!

Gods and Monsters - One of a few songs that I've already known prior to this rankdown. It has typical Lana Del Ray sound. I like this song.

Cannibal had bad lyrics, however many of her Animal/Cannibal songs are great for Halloween themed music.

Fun fact #1: Kelly Clarkson once covered Lose Yourself in concert. She did a pretty good job in my opinion. Fun fact #2: since Kelly Clarkson's new album Meaning of Life has come out, some people have been making comparisons between a couple of her songs and Rihanna's - someone heard a little Cockiness in Heat, and were reminded of Love On the Brain when listening to Don't You Pretend. I'm not sure I hear it with Heat personally, but I suggest you guys should check it out on Spotify and decide for yourselves! #kellyclarkson #stan #shamelessplug

Az unfortunately will not be able to see this video - when he sent in his rankdown he mentioned that this song was georestricted for him. He had to base his rank off of a LQ live perf or something, which says a lot about how impressive he found this song (and Kris himself too I guess?) Frankly, I'm not surprised - Idol is no stranger to amazingly talented winners! *whispers* Meaning of Life* #shamelessplug

I'm so glad that Atlantic gave Kelly the opportunity to release Meaning of Life (aka the greatest album of the 21st century, now available on all store shelves, digital stores and streaming platforms), but if there is one thing I regret about her leaving RCA it's that she didn't get to make good on her willingness to work with Miguel while they were still labelmates.

Yet another artist Kelly has covered in concert (The Only Exception). Once again, stellar rendition from a woman whose voice gives a whole new meaning to the phrase Meaning of Life (yeah I'm gonna do this all the way to #21 lol)

I don't know if Kelly's ever been down to Georgia, but everything's bigger in Texas anyway - hair, trucks, music, the meaning of life...
