One of our early top 5 contenders, that ended up falling thanks to .indulgecountry and never quite recovered. I must say, I was shocked by how little love this one got. This has personally always been one of my favorites from the album, and I thought that it was pretty unanimously heralded as one of the missed single opportunities from Eleven! I guess I was wrong about that, as according to our collective tastes, had this album gone 5 singles deep, this one still wouldn't have been picked as a single...

Anyway, this is one of her most effective and compelling vocal performances on the album. The way she sings each chorus with a different style is indicative of her wide range as a vocalist. In the 3rd chorus when she transitions from soft singing to heavy singing, it gets me every time! Not to mention that "The summer wind was blowing colder, but our hearts were still on fire" has got to be one of my favorite opening lyrics of all time

so I definitely underranked "When You Love A Sinner" as I do like the song but it never would have been Top 5 for me so I am okay with it being gone.

"Summer of Love" is a good song but not a favorite and again I'm good with its placement.

Overall I'm happy with songs that made it to top 5 (with 4 of them, but I expected that one song I don't like very much would end up pretty high). I think I'm Gonna Love You Through It has the biggest chances to win this rankdown and I'm also quite sure that You Can Get Your Lovin' Right Here will end up in 5th place.

This song was all over the place at first, but once we got enough submissions for things to start averaging out, this song was a very clear top 5 contender. I must confess, I was a little bit surprised by that fact! I knew this song was liked, but I thought it might be the one to fall around #7 while "When You Love A Sinner" held onto a spot in the top 5. Luckily for this song I was wrong.

Don't let my #11 ranking for this song fool you; I love it! This is just such a strong album that I like 10 songs more than it But I am absolutely okay with this snagging a spot in the top 5! This song is so sexy and flirty for Martina, and she makes it work well. I also love the horns in the studio version (good bari sax is always the quickest way to my heart...lol).

I had a feeling this would be #5 but I was hoping it wouldn't be. I love this song and I think it was different enough for her that I wish it had been a single because that has been one of the biggest complaints people have had about her career for a long time that a lot of the songs that were released as singles were similar to other singles of hers.

By the way, born was the last person to lose their #15! However, Kanenrá:ke was only the 3rd person to lose his #1. Thirteen of us still have our #1s going into the top 4!

I forgot to mention going into the top 5 that 14 out of 16 people still had their number ones going into the top 5. This top 5 is truly well-loved, overall! Every song in the top 5 has multiple #1 ranks, except for #5 which had only one.

I am SO HAPPY about the comeback this song managed to make! Towards the beginning of the submission process, this song barely stayed in the top 10... But then it very steadily worked its way back up, and finished strongly within the top 5 (almost in the top 3! It finished only 1 point behind #3!)

Anyway, I seriously have no idea how anyone could dislike this song. The melody of this song is so strong! Not to mention the quirky production that is very well-done. I LIVE for the first 40 seconds of this song I also love how the song opens with the chorus, which is a very unique structural choice in country music.

The only blight on this song is the lyrics, imo. There is not much going on lyrically, which I can definitely see being a turnoff for people who have come to expect a certain level of lyrical quality from Martina. Personally I do not have a problem with it, considering the context of the song. She wrote the song to literally use as a concert opener. It is about the connection between her and her fans. And the lyrics do effectively capture that excitement of being at a concert, and in that context are much less shallow than if it were just some random obscure song about partying. But it can definitely be interpreted that way if you don't know the context...

Still, I wish this had been a single, because there was a lot of hype surrounding this one when the album came out, and it is catchy af, so it could have been a huge way to start the album era. Despite the ho-hum lyrics, I think as a whole it would have been much less polarizing and much better-received as a lead single than "Teenage Daughters" was.

It’s really strange because when the album first came out, “One Night” was my favorite song. I just couldn’t get enough. But, I think I just wore it out to the point that when I went back to listen for the rankdown, the song wasn’t near as appealing as it once was.
