That's What I Like burned tremendously to where I never want to hear it again...actually Bruno's whole album has
Also noooo I Could Use A Love Song come back :'(
Anywho I can see Ready For It debuting in the bottom half of the top 10, would be happy to see it even higher
T Swift is slaying me this era so far

That's What I Like had a pretty intense drop, 8-17. I hope the song doesn't drop off the Hot 100 too fast, I'd like it to get 52 weeks. The song has wore on me a lot, but I still love it. It's definitely my favorite song of the year.

LOL! Every decade is a mood swing mess. Maybe you are experiencing this for the first time, but this is no different from any other decade. It is when pop historians and the media look back, and try to generalize that we are left remembering "the disco decade", "the grunge decade", etc. Most of the time, it's a big mix with upbeat then depressing swings.

Now Or Never- Halsey (#40) Wow. Didn't really have a long run. Kinda expected it to last at least little longer. Uhm, 20 weeks, so it's out by default dropping under 50. Plus she has a new single climbing on pop radio

I can honestly see Logic coming for the #1 or at least getting really close to it. It's still a very cheesy song and that "who can relate" verse leaves me cringing everytime. Anyway, predicitons for how many weeks for Look? I'd say 4-5.

HD was pretty far off in predicting sales for "LWYMMD." Yep but Ready sold around 85k in the first day and has been dominating iTunes so far. I think it'll sell pretty close to 200k Per HDD yesterday: "Taylor Swift's new "...Ready for It?" looks to be downloaded some 250-275k times in its first week. As an instant-grat track it will be deducted from pre-orders of Tay's reputation (due on 11/10 via Big Machine), meaning a first-week total in the neighborhood of 100k less.So pre-orders for reputation already close to 200K. Hits Ready for it

Plus she has a new single climbing on pop radio I know, but its run feels shorter than I expected. Hell, I didn't even realize that it was #40 last week. I thought it was still at least around the 20s region.

I think a lot of American music listeners are in a dark and depressed mood with everything happening in the country, and that is reflected in their listening habits and, therefore, the Hot 100.

Agreed. It really annoys me that the 70s are often thought of as the disco decade when you had the singer/songwriter movement then, Led Zeppelin, Motown and other classic R&B like Aretha, and so on. I think grunge gets overstated because of Cobain's suicide. He was a talent to be sure, but grunge really only lasted a few years (i.e. was a trend), and the 90s had so much more to it than grunge.

I think the 2010s have been such a mess when it comes to musical trends. We once went from club dance music in the early 2010s, to indie rock, to trap, to throwbacks to the 80s and 90s, to tropical reggae, and now Latin and dark urban music has dominated much of 2017. How many upbeat catchy songs have we had this year make any sort of diversity this year, because frankly they've been so little in number and have faded away so fast I don't remember many of them. The only two I can think of is Chained To The Rhythm and Swalla, and maybe Slide, but that's it. I'm amazed at just how dark and disturbing 2017 has been, especially with the low bar set by 2016 last year. There was no way 2017 could have been worst than 2016, and yet somehow, someway it seems like that might just be the case. Indie rock?

Is Now Or Never the lowest ever number 3 pop peak? it peaked at 3 on Pop but 17 on Hot 100. Probably the lowest ever, right? or wrong.

Well if you don't include the likes of Don't Speak which didn't chart at all. But no, Blame by Calvin Harris somehow went #3 on pop and #19 on the Hot 100. Probably the record in the digital age. Looking a bit further back Stacy's Mom went #3 on pop and #21 on the Hot 100.

I also now wonder if a song ever made it to top 10 on Pop without making top 50 on Hot 100. Or some that barely made top 50 or even 40 and made top 10 on Pop.

At this point there should be an asterisk on 'No Promises' since it's still gaining airplay so the margin between its pop and Hot 100 peaks still has potential to shrink.

No Promises isn't done is it? Because it needs more than 20 weeks to make the year end list so that would be terrible.
Where does it seem Ready For It will debut?

Was Indie Rock that small bubble we had with Mumford & Sons, Lumineers and Phillip Phillips?

There was an indie trend during 2012-2014 with the likes of Gotye, fun., Mumford and Sons, Of Monsters and Men, Imagine Dragons (the only ones that survived past the trend), American Authors, The Lumineers, etc. It was very present on the charts during that time period.

There was no way 2017 could have been worst than 2016, and yet somehow, someway it seems like that might just be the case. no way is it close to being worse at all. I'd also add Despacito, That's What I Like, Feel It Still, Castle On The Hill, Feels and Wild Thoughts as songs that aren't slow or dark. Heck, There's Nothing Holding Me Back and Attention I'd argue aren't slow songs at all. Heck, I'd even say some of this year's rap hits have been more energetic than a lot of the slow and dreary pop hits we've had this year. Anyway, I didn't like the club music from the early 2010s. I found it very annoying and it certainly overstayed its welcome. We do need some more uptempo songs, but just something different from that. Something that's fun and actually listenable at the same time. In any case, this is just a cycle. We go through stuff like this every decade.

The Fluke Indie Hit Sweepstakes as a certain music critic has called it was especially fruitful in the first few years of the decade. We had the following become major hits (note, I'm going by sound, not necessarily signings; these are all songs that sounded unique or weird compared to their surrounding hits and often had to fight against the tide or take the unconventional route to become a hit) (also second note, indie isn't just rock, it entails electronic music and pop-influenced music like Sia):
Am I Wrong / Nico & Vinz (originally released indie under their old name Envy, plus it was pretty unique in its afrobeat sound) Bulletproof / La Roux Chandelier / Sia (+ subsequent hits Elastic Heart & Cheap Thrills) Everybody Talks / Neon Trees Habits (Stay High) / Tove Lo (+ subsequent hit Talking Body) Harlem Shake / Baauer (lucky memester...) Ho Hey / The Lumineers It's Time / Imagine Dragons (+ subsequent hits Radioactive, Demons, & Believer) Latch / Disclosure feat. Sam Smith Let Her Go / Passenger Lights / Ellie Goulding (+ subsequent hits Burn & On My Mind) Pompeii / Bastille Pumped Up Kicks / Foster the People Rather Be / Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne Royals / Lorde (+ subsequent hit Team) Safe and Sound / Capital Cities Say Something / A Great Big World Sail / AWOLnation Shut Up and Dance / Walk the Moon Somebody That I Used to Know / Gotye feat. Kimbra Take Me to Church / Hozier Thrift Shop / Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Wanz (+ subsequent hits Can't Hold Us, Same Love, White Walls, & Downtown) Too Close / Alex Clare We Are Young / Fun. (+ subsequent hits Some Nights & Carry On)

How do you guys think XXX's new songs will do?
I think Jocelyn Flores will eventually get into the top 10, and Revenge in the top 20.

Was Indie Rock that small bubble we had with Mumford & Sons, Lumineers and Phillip Phillips? Kind of around the same year in 2012, so in a way yes. That was around the time fun. Neon Trees and Goyte had massive hits that felt almost inescapable. With fun.'s We Are Young and Goyte's Somebody That I Used To Know, the latter of which was the biggest song of 2012.
