- It'll probably be between "Down and Out" and "Shiftwork"

I think "Shiftwork" is going very early as well as "Twang" so one of those 3. Which songs will be in the top 5? The data entry is complete, and I am ready to start this once a more popular hour arrives! 
Anyway, just because it is cool, here is a graph showing the overall point totals for the entire rankdown:
 There are some trends I would like to call to your attention.
-First of all, the bottom 4 ran away with the bottom positions. There is a gap of over 100 points between #96 and #97, which is enormous compared to the rest of the rankdown! -#100 also ran away with the last place, as there is a gap of almost 100 points between #100 and #99. It was NOT the only song to spend time at the #100 position though. -For the most part, everything else is spread out evenly throughout the middle of the rankdown. -Towards the top half of the rankdown, the songs kind of started to tier themselves. There is a significant drop just inside the top 40, for example, and then it levels off. This means that it would have been pretty difficult for a song outside the top 35-ish to climb into the top 35 if more lists were to come in. It would have also been difficult to tank a song in the top 35 OUT of the top 35. But within the 35-ish to 22-ish range, it would not take much effort at all to cause the songs to switch around. -The same thing happens going into the top 20. The songs within the top 20 were pretty set in stone by the time we got our final list, and it would have been very difficult to bump one out in favor of a lower song. But between 20 and 10, the songs were very close and interchangeable. -Look at the top 10!!! We have a VERY clear top 10! #10 was a battle worth watching, because it was pretty close to the rest of the top 15. But #9 has almost 100 points less than #10! From there, 8-3 were pretty interchangeable, but as you can see the top 2 ran away with their victories. #2 has over 100 points less than #3, and #1 beat #2 by an almost equally large margin.
Some other stats to consider:
-Throughout the whole submission process, 4 songs occupied the #100 position. One stayed there for only 1 submission (MY #100...) (5% of the rankdown) and ended up finishing in the bottom 5. One stayed for 2 submissions (10% of the rankdown), and ended up climbing all the way into the low 80s. The 3rd one stuck around for 3 submissions (15%), and then stuck around in the bottom 5. The last #100 was there the rest of the time (70%), and ended up finishing there. -The #99 song NEVER occupied the #100 position! It occupied the #99 space for 35% of the rankdown though. -Only 2 songs ever occupied the #1 slot. The first main #1 contender held the #1 spot for 10 submissions (50% of the rankdown), and the 2nd #1 contender ALSO held the #1 spot for 10 submissions! Interestingly enough, the songs only swapped places once. Otherwise their runs at #1 were uninterrupted. -Both #1s spent very little time in the #2 position. The first one only spent 1 submission (5% of the rankdown) at #2, and the other one spent 15% of the rankdown at #2. Both of them took the #1 spot by jumps of larger than 2 positions when they first claimed the #1 position. -Where did the first #1 contender that held on for 50% of the rankdown end up finishing? #8....

Very interested to see what was a run away #1 in a field of 100 songs. That is impressive! Yes, the #1 has less than half the points of what the #10 has. Meanwhile, you would have to go all the way down to #72 to get to the song that has twice as many points as #10! The rate of dropoff in the top 10 is impressive indeed  I'm not sure if it's unusual or not, considering this is the first time I made one of these graphs. But I do feel like most of the songs in the top 5 will usually give the #1 a run for its money, which was definitely not the case here... |
