The charts become much less important and irrelevant when labels manipulate them like they do.

Pink's airplay continues to do well. The song's chances on hitting top 10 relies on it a lot to make up for streaming Ditto Maroon Five

So since Gorgeous isn't the official single and neither is Ready for it and LWYMMD is dying, it seems like they're just gonna wait til the album drops for the second single..

So since Gorgeous isn't the official single and neither is Ready for it and LWYMMD is dying, it seems like they're just gonna wait til the album drops for the second single.. Maybe they're waiting to see what song(s) get the most attention/love from fans after the album drops? This situation reminds me vaguely of Katy Perry's Prism, where basically fan reaction determined that Dark Horse was gonna be a big single, which I'm not sure they had anticipated.

Oo wow, "What About Us" not far off the top 10 points-wise. Perhaps it can get there in a week or two with its increasing airplay? A discount would help too.

OMG Look What You Made Me Do is gonna drop below Something Just Like This. Remember when that song was in the top 10 like 4 months ago? I bet it's gonna drop below Scars To Your Beautiful soon

Regarding Rockstar, according to YouTube Music Insights, the YouTube video posted by Republic was #3 for last week, just behind Despacito.

That's not what Insights tracks. It's using every play of the song from all Content ID'd video or official uploads in a region and showing the results; the video it shows as the icon is just demonstrative; that's why sometimes no video at all shows up or the wrong video (this happens a lot when I check Japan's Insights).

^I'm aware that the counts are not necessarily only from the video displayed, although in Rockstar's case its probably mostly from it. If you click the listing mentioned, it does lead you to the video in question. And yeah, I am aware that the charts are sometimes messed up with no video icon or title related to them. Regardless of all these issues, I do think the numbers that are shown are what gets reported to Nielsen, in the end.

I know it probably won't reach #1, but is there any chance for "Feel It Still" to at least reach #3? I would be really happy if it became the "Radioactive" of 2017.

The charts become much less important and irrelevant when labels manipulate them like they do. So I guess that means the charts have always been unimportant and irrelevant.

^^^ LoL, you think the charts are easy to manipulate now. ^^^^ When there weren't computers etc and billboard were getting there lists from record stores and radio stations directly I think there was abit of manipuation going on. Just ask Donna Summer who wasn't even aware at one time her album was released bootleg or not. Some labels would hide sales figures for they wouldn't have to pay artists etc etc. Chart manipulations were probably a lot worse back in the day. lol

True. But I didn’t know about it. The more I know how much they are manipulated the less fun chart watching becomes for me.

I hope Pink cracks the top 10. I doubt she'll be able to do it if sales fall now that the album is out.

Question of the day. If charts are that “unimportant and irrelevant “ why do we keep coming back week after week to discuss the charts?

There's a reason why Motown didn't certify singles and albums until the mid or late 1980s. Record stores were the worst. Ever wonder why Dark Side of the Moon was the only catalog album to continually chart during the pre-Soundscan era? And spins v what radio stations reported were quite enlightening during the 'test' period. Today with the three primary components readily accessible, it's a lot more difficult to do. Promotions/discounts/getting on streaming playlists happen, but the spins, sales and streams are real.

True. But I didn’t know about it. The more I know how much they are manipulated the less fun chart watching becomes for me. Well, then you'll be happy to know that the charts are far less calculated and manipulated now than ever. Even just 10 years ago, labels would withhold songs from iTunes until the time was right to snatch that #1 since sales were so easy to manipulate back then.
