LOL! If any of you decide to scroll backwards in this thread , you will see that I went from loving this to liking this, to not even charting this, to straight out taking a dump on this. It looks really quite hilarious,If you put all my quotes about this song together in one post. I even mentioned liking the chick in the MV too. I might just tank this stinker at the end of the year, for putting me through all that turmoil.

THE STORY OF DOC'S BROKEN RELATIONSHIP WITH BROKEN BY LOVELYTHEBAND Presented by dbender mind you Sounds like something I might have reviewed in the New Adds thread? I must have mentioned MGMT "Kids" vibes with the synths? I could easily get behind this if is starts charting. I've been passing up on more and more of these new indie bands that chart on alt, this year. The vocals all seem to be on auto pilot. No soul. They just sound so bland now a days. I'm still not 100% on board with this. The chorus is alright, I think the indie stuff I discover online , with the 80;s vibes like Freeweights, NEON LIGHTS, etc,...sounds more edgy and more my style Just as I thought? I'm slowly getting into this groove. I still wish his vocals were more distinct. He sounds like 100 other indiepop singers, but it does have some "bop" appeal. I figure I might as well get into the few good songs on that Alt chart. I also finally gave the MV a thumbs up. So this is like a mash up of two of my favorite mid 2000s songs. "Hot N Cold" and "Kids". Very crafty. BTW, does anyone know the name of the blonde actress in the music video. She's smokin' here is another vid uploaded by the band. This is my type of band. here is the latest song to make the "inspirations for this song's melody" list." Another former top 10 song on my personal chart. Wolf Gang - Lions In CagesThat's exactly the reason I like it too. I agree with Anna, this song is a whole lot of nothing. Reminded me of that JR JR song from a while back that spent forever on the chart. Just absolute generic indie saccharine garbage. I cannot erase that thought from my mind. That statement is going to have a negative effect, on me liking this song. Took a while, but this song has fizzled away out of me. And just when it hits #1 on Alt chart. Go figure. Thought Contagion got the Billboard #1 this week. Post-Memorial Day effect Maybe just the fact that the Alt top 5 is weak as hell? 4 6 LOVELYTHEBAND Broken 2689 2473 216 11.703 F U C K O F F It’s not solely because of this song of course, but I honestly think this has got to be one of the worst years for the alt charts in some time. While I suppose the charts are a bit more friendly to veteran/heavier acts then they were 5ish years ago, everything is skewing poppier, mediocre songs are sticking around for forever again, and until this week, I honestly don’t know if there was a single alt #1 I actively enjoyed. At least Jumpsuit and Africa are returning some semblance of quality to the chart, but I honestly think the garbage that’s charted this year is partly responsible for getting me more into pop and hip hop. Same here, but instead of Pop and Hip Hop, I ran into the arms of the Active chart. I like guitars and catchy melodies. Plus we don't have active rock stations here, I never heard anything by Seether or breaking Benjamin before 2015 for example. Feels like janinho answered it for me. Just kidding. Or is he? First off; "Infra Ded" is exactly that. second; Honestly, I don't get bored of traditional hard rock. Monotonous and genric doesn't apply with me, because I don't consider those bad aspects. Just ask AC/DC. What I consider wrong, are songs that sound too different or experimental to fall under the rock catagory. Besides, The active chart is but a mere extension of other online metal charts where I actually discover my rock music from. Short answer: The more 80's Metal ,or "post Grunge" I get from music , the more it clicks with me. Now for Alt. A few years back, I used to think it was cool ,all the indiepop and synthpop was charting on Alt, but now it sounds more poptart than synthpop and I regret it. Short answer: Hardly no 80's or even 90's vibe on Alt chart. Out of the current 50 songs charting on Alt and Active charts this week, these are the results: Active=I like 26 out of 50 songs Alt = I like 16 out of 50 songs Short answer: Can't teach old dog new tricks. Oh yeah forgot to mention that this debuted at #84 on the Hot 100. LOL! this song is so "over the counter" indiepop; that I thought it would be in the Hot 100 top 30 by now? BTW, I just , today ,heard a line in the this song saying, "these are my friends"; which is the name of their second single. Who knows ,maybe a line in "These Are My Friends" will reveal the name of their third single? That's how "connect the dots" this band is. The problem with this song its that its so simple. "Mary had a little lamb" has more depth. Oh well I haven't really been in agreement with Alts number 1 year songs for sometime. I mean you did want this right?

This is semi OT but I’m listening to No Roots right now and the song’s a bop and a half — not sure why I slept on that one. Really wish that had become the big crossover smash instead of this, although I suppose that didn’t do terribly (scraped the bottom of the hot 100 and went top 15 on HAC, though it bombed on CHR).

Now I want this to die hard. Who doesn't? This is starting to re-gain spins again. I swear, the Daryl Jinx curse needs to end at some point.

At this point, I don't even want this song to go recurrent, which means it will still get airplay. I just want someone to put it in a box, burry it and never hear from it again.

This is only 5 weeks away from Savior's 65 week long run on Billboard's Alt charts.

This is "First" over again, which is unfortunate, because:
1) It'll be harder to get this out on Billboard than Mediabase as there are Mediabase-only stations that drop older songs like this faster. (e.g. KXNA) In fact, this is still ahead of "...Crown" and "Pressure" on Billboard. 2) This looks more likely to break the record than "First". 3) FIRST IS A MUCH MORE SUPERIOR SONG THAN THIS PILE OF SHIT.
And so is "Savior".

Btw anyone know where this would rank on the alt all time list? Feels like we’ve been having some HUGE hits in the past couple years, ie this, First, Feel It Still, Renegades, Wish I Knew You, etc

This was at #142 on the list that was released last year. I'm thinking it would be top 20/10 by now.

I remember back at the end of 2017 in a group-chat I praised "broken" and said it was going to be a huge hit in 2018. Now in 2019 I regret everything I ever said in that chat. Its run is over. It has no business still being here and even being in the same conversation as "Savior".

This stupid song has re-gained its bullet once again, and not only is it up to #9, it got a +33 update today. And with "You Should See Me in a Crown" and "My Blood" finished, it could go back to #7 next week.

Seriously, alt. This isn't that good of a song. Just drop it already.
"Savior" was worthy of breaking a record.
"Feel It Still" was worthy of breaking a record.
"Out of My League" was worthy of breaking a record.
"Up All Night" was worthy of breaking a record.
Not this song.

Yesterday Alt 92.3 pleasantly surprised me by playing "The Scientist" (Coldplay), "Feeling This" (Blink), and "Polly" (Nirvana) back-to-back. Then of course they brought me back down to Earth by playing this for the eleventy billionth time.
Are Alternative PD's just trolling us at this point? I liked this song when it first came out, but ENOUGH ALREADY.

So I'm "Twilight Zoning" with a few friends and we are all thinking what each of us can do to stop this song in its tracks. The usual payola tricks came up. Someone mentioned Rise Against getting pissed. That gave me an idea. You have to remember we are high as F U C K so none of this will actually make sense. Anyway, I never hated the song, but I never thought it would become such a stain on the Alt chart, so I suggested they send me back in time so I could leak it to Rise Against and they could rerecord it before it ever got released under this lovey band's name. That way if it became this big a hit -Rise Against would still hold the crown for top Alt song.

At this point, I'm just expecting this to break the record. I think Another Century is doing this on purpose. There is no reason why this should still be in the top 10 a year and a third after it first gained airplay AND a triple-digit positive bullet. The question is, how long will it outlast Savior, if it does? Guiding Light is on it's way out, so it looks like LIIWMI, Fast Talk, Worst Nites, Over My Head, Timebomb, RTLG, Trampoline, and possibly CKTH and 99 to outlast this. But how long will it take for them to do so?

If it made the Top 5 and has more than 52 weeks in the Top 40, it's gone when it falls below #5. 52 or less, it can dawdle down until it falls out of the Top 10. I'd also like to see songs stick around a couple of extra weeks when they don't make the Top 5, like Tidal Wave, Blood // Water, Back Down; maybe three weeks of declining spins before they zap it, irrespective of weeks on.
My original revolutionary and complicated idea back in the 90s was:
Each station only gets 26 weeks worth of "fulltime" play counted. The counter for the weeks starts when you play the song 6 times in a given week between 6am - midnight (midnight - 6am plays do count, but not toward that requirement, since so many fewer people listen in overnights). Once you've had your 26 weeks, your tally of plays is removed from the overall total. That way, everything would gradually slip off the chart like it did in the good old days. And it would cause the labels to encourage earlier, heavier, and more prime-time support, so the charts would resume moving faster.
And yes it's ridiculous; this song was in my Top 100 for 2017. Any PD who's still playing this more than 10 times a week is a soulless craven sellout who's about as alternative as Blake Shelton.
