A classic album. One of the most defining albums of the late '90s for latin music. Her MTV Unplugged album is legendary too.

This one’s in my blood. I don’t think anyone else really comes close to describing love, the way I experience it, like she does. At its worst it can be extremely busy (“No Creo,” Unplugged is like 18x better) or melodramatic (“Tú,” omg lol) but the rest of it just.....rocks, honestly.

For some reason, I've always thought "Si Te Vas" was a single... she used to perform it when back she did promo for this record in Brazil, maybe that's why LOL This one’s in my blood. I LOVE "Tú", especially the MTV Unplugged version

This is amazing and it's still my favourite album from Shakira with Pies Descalzos. Both of them don't have any burn rate for me at all. At its worst it can be extremely busy (“No Creo,” Unplugged is like 18x better) or melodramatic (“Tú,” omg lol) but the rest of it just.....rocks, honestly. O. "No Creo" and "Tú" are really good in my opinion. For some reason, I've always thought "Si Te Vas" was a single... she used to perform it when back she did promo for this record in Brazil, maybe that's why LOL I guess I'm not the only one who thought about that though. I'm kind of sure I've listened to "Si Te Vas" on my local radio stations around that time, so when I found out that it wasn't properly pushed as a single, I was like... really? And I was even surprised to know that "Moscas En La Casa" was a single. I don't remember to listen to that track on my local radio stations. Either way, "Si Te Vas" and the title track remain as my favourite album cuts. They are fantastic, especially the latter.

^ To clarify they’re not bad songs at all, just what I consider to be the lowest points of a really solid album.
“Sombra de Ti” is so haunting; I’m pretty sure Shakira has said more than once that it’s one of her favorite songs she’s ever written. And yes “Si Te Vas” is a MONSTER.

Si Te Vas got a lot of play back in the day. I'm shocked it wasn't a single.
This is her best album and probably my favorite album in Español ever. She's really left the whole rocker/singer-songwriter thing behind which is sad because I don't think she'll ever come close to this quality again.

Definitely not "rock", but I feel like "Fijación Oral 1" had a pretty strong singer-songwriter feel to it, as well as being a more "alternative" take on Latin pop. It's definitely tied as my favorite Shakira album along with "Dónde Están Los Ladrones?"

Fijación Oral 1 and Pies Descalzos do fit the singer songwriter feel, and some parts of Laundry Service as well (although it was designed as her big US breakout so of course it was way more commercial), but it went downhill from there. Not that I don't enjoy most of her newer singles but she peaked with this album IMO.

From your previous post I thought that you were saying that she left her singer-songwriter style behind after this album...

All these posts and nobody is singing the praises of the incredible Inevitable smh. The way that chorus thunders in is still something else.
This is easily her best album, and one of the best albums of the latter half of the 90s. Pies Descalzos was strong too, but the production was lacking at times, which wasn't the case here.
Ojos Asi and her Unplugged performance were my introductions to her in early 2000, and I was so excited when her excellent first English single was released and thought she had so much promise and years of incredible work ahead of her. She never lived up to that, although Fijación Oral, Vol. 1 and She Wolf were good in their own rights, and it still stings to think about it.

Speaking of "Ojos Asi", I will never forget watching this performance live on TV... such an ICONIC moment in her career!

I much prefer Laundry Service and some of her later albums, but I do like "Que Vuelvas" and "Ojos Asi"

My favorite Shakira album!!!! I didn't listen to it until the 2010s (even though I bought Laundry Service during its release cycle) but when I did, I was instantly hooked! "Ojos Así" is probably my favorite song from her ever, but this whole album has zero skips. As much as I love LS, I selfishly wish her re-recording this album entirely in English would've come to fruition in 1999 - but I am glad my favorite exists in both languages.
In some ways, I consider her self-titled in 2014 to be her most rock-influenced after this one where she even did a straight-up ska song with "Cut Me Deep" (which I still love despite the questionable rhyme scheme in the chorus) but there is a commercial sheen to that album that makes it less exciting than this masterpiece!
