I mean, empirically yes, but colloquially, there is a sense of relativity that should be considered. It just feels weird, for example, to call any of these hits, despite their high peaks: Dope / Lady Gaga (#8, had streams that probably shouldn't have counted, left the chart after like 2 weeks) Formation / Beyonce (#10, not even a month in the top 40) Gentleman / Psy (#5, less than 2 months in top 40) Harlem Shake / Bauuer (#1, fueled by memes, less than 20 weeks on the Hot 100) We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow / Soko (#9, 1 week total on hot 100)<iframe width="21.139999999999986" height="5.1200000000000045" style="position: absolute; width: 21.14px; height: 5.12px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 995px; top: -216px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_72385620"></iframe> <iframe width="21.139999999999986" height="5.1200000000000045" style="position: absolute; width: 21.14px; height: 5.12px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 10px; top: -16px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_89031256"></iframe> <iframe width="21.139999999999986" height="5.1200000000000045" style="position: absolute; width: 21.14px; height: 5.12px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 995px; top: -16px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_40576537"></iframe> Harlem Shake did in fact get 20 weeks. I have no real problem calling it a hit because even though it's a "dead meme" we still remember it. Like who's gonna remember When I Was Your Man, Stay by Rihanna, Ho Hey, or honestly even Blurred Lines. That song was #2 year-end and I haven't heard the song or heard anyone talk about the song since like 2015. Whereas the Harlem Shake I actually think people are gonna remember, even if they remember it as a meme more than a song it's still a song that's in the public consciousness. And I think in 2033 people will probably still know what the Harlem Shake is, sort of like how we still know what U Can't Touch This is twenty or more years later

Even though I have expressed my displeasure for both the song and the artist, I will in fact say Havana has a very, very good shot at the top next week.

I find it more weird to say it wasn’t a hit. Formation also sold 900k and that’s with a huge delay to iTunes, had it been around for the Super Bowl it’s sales would be much higher. I don’t think those songs should be listed with the other songs in the original post (and gentleman to a lesssr degree) when some of those songs get next to no radio play and next to no sales

AMEN to that To think that AIWFCIY is the best known song by Mariah when she has like 18 #1's That’s because a good majority of her number ones stem from them being discounted this pushing them to the top and also Payola...majority of anyone that hears imo only knows her music from the Emancipation album and onwards. Umm how old are you because that isn't true???? Casual fans of Mariah and the general public may think of "We Belong Together" but also think of "Hero, Vision Of Love, Fantasy" etc when Mariah's named is mentioned. I don't know many who think of the songs that came after "WBT" as Mariah's most known music.

Why don't people like Filthy as much as Finesse??? It's a great song Finesse is a familiar throwback, Filthy is probably too weird. I like both the same but I get the hate. Oh and the cringey lyrics don't help (what you gonna do with all that meat)...

Mostly, I think "Filthy" is terrible because Justin Timberlake sounds terrible in it. At least it's the hilarious kind of terrible though.

Filthy needs a version without the chorus.

Those songs were all pretty enjoyable but this one lives up to its name. It’s not Filthy in a sexy way it’s Filthy like an overflowing toilet at a Taco Bell.

I like Filthy just because I'm into some weird ass music, but it seems too weird for pop. It's obviously not a huge risk like some people are saying, like it's not Bjork or anything, but it's still pretty weird. I think the biggest problem overall is that the song doesn't really seem to change, there's no hook or really infectious earworm to grasp onto, it just kind of meanders all the way through, doesn't help that the track is 5 minutes long, it almost feels like a chore to listen to. It's definitely gonna be interesting to see how this fairs on pop, it's doing good right now because it's a Timberlake lead single but I don't expect much longevity, seems like we have another Chained To The Rhythm and Look What You Made Me Do on our hands. But Timberlake has shocked me in the past, Sexyback was also really weird but it went #1 on Pop, plus Rockstar is Top 5 on pop right now so I guess anything can really happen. If it starts to crash the Superbowl will be able to give it a second wind like Million Reasons last year.
Finesse is gonna fair better, most definitely. It's familiar and radio friendly, though I'm already burned out on it. I was able to listen to 24K and TWIL for months straight, but I'm already sick of this song despite liking it a lot. I hope radio doesn't kill it any further for me, but it probably will.

I assume the charts will be delayed because of MLK Day?
