Isn't "Look What You Made Me Do" on the same tier of success with "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"? (maybe a bit less successful - both were in the 30s for the year end charts).
Both were moderate successful #1s - but it wasn't an underperformance like "Hold It Against Me" (#60 year end).

Only yearend charts don't matter if a song is released later in the year compared to another song. Unless all three songs you're talking about were released at the same point in their year, this point is moot.

I'll will go one further, year end charts are fine if the songs being compared were released in the same year and both completed chart runs.
Comparison of songs in different years doesn't work

"We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' was a slightly bigger hit than "Look What You Made Me Do", none of those were on the level of Blank Space/Shake It Off, but at least "Look What You Made Me Do" wasn't a major underperformance like "Hold It Against Me".

Comparison of songs in different years doesn't work Of course it's not perfect, but it's an alright way to compare year to year performances, especially considering that Billboard does decade end charts despite there being no perfect way to do so.

One big difference is "WANEGBT" furthered the crossover momentum she had going, whereas "LWYMMD" was essentially a hit because of her momentum and ended up decreasing her momentum. So, in context, "WANEGBT" was a much bigger hit. Plus "LWYMMD" fell pretty much every week after its release, except for a small bump with year-end stuff, whereas "WANEGBT" had a decent run in the top 10 (13 weeks vs 8 for LWYMMD).

LOVE STORY will be 10 years old this year. I consider Love Story Taylor's pop breakout so she's been in the chart game for a awhile already, slowing down was inevitable. But yeah kinda a crucial era for her future pop success but Taylor Swift is business savvy so I wouldn't count her out yet. Her next album though she'll be in her 30s, so I wonder what direction will she go by then especially since so far this era is not really giving her that much momentum

I don't think Taylor Swift was aiming for huge commercial success with this album - she already got that with 1989. She could've easily made another 1989 with pop bops, but she went a different route which I respect. Just like Rihanna did with Rated R. The fact that she is so big 11 years into her career is amazing.

So this could finally be the week NR goes top 10? Good
Of all the songs Bebe Rexha has released, "Meant to be" becoming a hit feels so random
Is Never Be The Same lagging behind? It should shoot up next week bc of album release right
Also bye Gummo!

For those two songs the year-end positions speak as much to out of the gate popularity as anything. How did each do on the chart's counting toward the next chart year? "WANEGBT" held up better.

You honestly think "WANEGBT" held up well enough from nearly its fifth month charting onward to make for a massive difference between the two? I never argued the former lead didn't have the edge on longevity, but all in all they have comparable success once you factor in "LWYMMD" and its video success (which bolstered its streaming). For instance the video for "WANEGBT" has 500 million streams after six years. "LWYMMD" has over 820 million in five months. Btw: "WANEGBT" didn't rank in the 2013 year-end Hot 100.

Speaking of streaming, how have Billboard's own rules for chart tabulating changed between the two time periods?

We're expecting the top 10 to come out today at the same usual time, right? I'm confused right now cos of the date changes and last week's apparent delay.

Speaking of streaming, how have Billboard's own rules for chart tabulating changed between the two time periods? In 2012, Billboard included fewer streaming services in its panel (most notably Spotify and YouTube), streaming numbers were much lower, and it was also weighed much less, making up maybe around 10-20% of a typical song's chart points (but don't quote me on those exact percentages). Interestingly though, WANEGBT wasn't available on any streaming services that contributed to the Hot 100, I think for its entire run.

I think some Monday holidays are not delayed for some reason?
However, the Hot 100 was delayed last year for this holiday.

I want Havana to pull a Starboy and hit #1 so badly.
It's actually doing so well on all 3 metrics (top 3 on each).
And it's a huge global smash - it's basically hit #1 or #2 in every major international country including Germany which is extremely hard to break in. Even Miley, Selena, Ariana and Demi don't have international hits like Havana.

As i can tell you as a german, everyone is loving havana here(The people are singing it always on the streets, mall and in the underground π.Miley is not very popular here anymore since wrecking ball.Selena is very very popular. It ainβt me even hit number 2 and was behind SOYπ. Ariana is not that popular like selena but many people are loving her.Sheβs so cuuuuteβ€οΈ.But i think she havenβt got an big hit like selena or camila. As i remember Problem ft Iggy azelea didnβt reached the top 20.Demi is also an very cool artist but sheβs not that popular like in the us(uk).I love her newer songs but nobody here gives a ....about her music and thatβs very sadπͺ Popularity in Germany Camila Cabello(9/10 Selena Gomez (7-8/10) Ariana Grande (5/10) Miley Cyrus (3-4/10) Demi Lovato (3/10) Why am i writing so much πππ My longest post ever Havana to #1 in US pleaseππΌ
