"Team You" was the second digital single released from Mya's latest album, the GRAMMY-NOMINATED Smoove Jones, and actually made the top-30 on iTunes R&B (gotta take these self-released victories wherever you can get 'em). I can see why this would be just "average" on many people's radar but I love the 90s R&B vibe of it and I really love her vocals on this.

Oh, and Ayo is a cute little concept (and coming a year or two after Amerie's One Thing I think there was in theory a space for it) but the production wasn't the cleanest, and I think I would have liked it more if it wasn't a breakup song disguised as a club joint. I would have preferred a straight up club joint.

Ayo! - Production wise, it was something fresh coming from Mya. However, a terrible choice for a lead single after a 3 year hiatus. I'm glad it got deemed to promotional/buzz single status.
Team You - A bit repetitive but a decent indie offering from Mya. It's no stand out compared to the other superb tracks on Smoove Jones

Yeah, I didn't think Ayo was a smart choice for a lead single but I appreciated it for what it was.

Since I need to run these reports, here's a bonus; this was also in contention for being a single from Liberation (and did make the final track list). BONUS: "I Am" feat. Charli Baltimore

I Am was one of her better uptempo songs in years. Sure, it has cliche lyrics but Kwame's production on this song can't be ignored. I prefer Charli B. version to Penelope. A great opening track. It's head throbbing and engaging.

#23 is another 2010s release that's almost smack-dab middle of the SD pack with four bottom-5 rankers and will see FOUR MORE top-10 losses. #RIP

"Welcome to My World" was the first digital single released from the GRAMMY-NOMINATED Smoove Jones project! Same as with Space, the production value increases my love for the record and I love the warmth in her vocals.

#22 is another collaboration with a mid-range SD that will see three more top-10 losses!

"Lie Detector" was produced by Wyclef Jean and included on Mýa's sophomore album Fear of Flying. I never expected this to be a single but I've always thought the narrative of the song would've made for a great video (so the YT video above will have to suffice) and this has always been one of my favorite Mýa deep cuts.

WTH "Lie Detector" is great! :(
I really wanted to move "Ayo" and "Team You" higher up my lists. For "Team You" I loved the overall feel of it but it doesn't climax for me.

#21 will be another loss from Mýa's 90s catalog. It has the 9th highest SD and will cause three more top-10 losses (and five bottom-5 losses, including one for me).

Welcome To My World - One of the standouts on Smoove Jones. Great production.
Lie Detector - Clever, witty ditty. Definitely deserves to be in the Top 20. It's one of the better songs on Fear of Flying.

"If You Died..." has obviously stood out, not just on Mýa's self-titled debut but in her discography alone, thanks to the blunt title. Also not surprised to see this as the highest streamed album track from the album. :kii: I like it but it has not aged well at all.

Put me in the "hasn't aged well" camp for If You Died This Title Wouldn't Fit On Your Tombstone, but I appreciate its existence. Lie Detector otoh is just a mess and a half lol.

Fun fact: "Why You Gotta Look So Good?", produced by Rockwilder, was originally planned to be the second single from Moodring but, for reasons unknown, the label switched gears and went with Fallen instead (four months after the album dropped). When time came for a third single, that is when they broke the news to Mýa that the promo budget for the album had been exhausted thanks to Ron Fair making the executive producer decision to add live strings all over the album (courtesy of his girlfriend at the time who just happened to be a violinist). This has always been one of my favorite Mýa records ever and I am still convinced it (along with several other records on the album) would've been a legit hit had it been given the chance. That whole album really had so much potential to elevate her career to the next level and I'll probably never get over them screwing her over and setting her down the path to be screwed over a second time by Motown. She deserved better! /endrant

Pleasantly surprised that my top 10 is still intact. Though now I've probably jinxed myself and will get purged come next round.

Everything looks good so far but if you guys let that Rugrat ass song get into the top 20 I will forever be judging you. Maybe we’ll find out tomorrow how far they let it get.

If You Died... - One of the standouts on her debut album. I suppose the title is juvenile but the song itself is a gem.
Look So Good - A standout as well. Definitely deserve to be in the Top 20, wish it was higher though. Some might argue the production on this is too busy and there's a lot going on but it's one Mya's best song in her discography imo. It has aged well and definitely could compete on the charts today.

Team You & Welcome to My World - These are probably my least favorites from the Smoove Jones album. Just kinda meh.
Lie Detector - One of my favorites when I was a kid. I'm not surprised that's it's low but I still really enjoy it. I read somewhere that it was originally going to be the lead single (it was a Mya quote in Billboard or something), and I'm glad that didn't happen. Despite how much I love it, it would've bombed as a single.
If You Died - LOL I've always loved this title. I enjoy the song, but it's surprisingly forgettable for a song with such a bold title.
Why You Gotta Look So Good - I've always thought this was a jam. Shame they f**ked up the Moodring era so badly.
Edit: Forgot to comment on AYO! I've always loved that one, but I assumed I was the only one lol. It's a bit of a mess, but it's so much fun.
