I really like Vol. 1, but I found this one kind of boring. They picked the right singles but otherwise the only song I saved of the new tracks was Lean On Me.

Very similar to Volume 1 in vibe, but he obviously took a rawer approach to this one. Firstly, who in the flying f**k mixed this? It's all over the place. Some of the instrumentals sound super muffled. Some sound sharp/jangly and just unpleasant. Some of the vocals are indecipherable, on other tracks they're way too forward in the mix and sound harsh. And a lot of the vocal takes sound scratch.

Everything about this is amateur hour. Total background music and nothing is sticking.

I think after having a string of smashes and experimenting under the Love Regenerator pseudonym, which gave Calvin a freer avenue to express his artistic vision, this album sounds like it was an afterthought, hastily put together for his pop music fans. 

some things don't need sequels. it's unfortunate we found this out about Funk Wav Bounces after we received Vol 2.

I'll keep "Potion" and "New To You" and consider "Woman of the Year" and "Obsessed." he can keep the rest.

I was going to tell that you should have bought it on his US official store because the release date was last Friday, but I've just found out that they pushed back the CD until August 26 there too. :facepalm:

Listening now and it's...a vibe for sure. I like funky stuff so in a general sense it works for me. But I can see what people are saying...a lot of it seems like...a little half baked. Tons of potential in a lot of these songs that does not feel fully realized. Like maybe more people on the song wasn't what it needed? Do we need both Halsey and JT on Stay With Me? Both Dua and Young Thug on Potion? Maybe not.

His strategies to make people buy and/or stream the album are clever to be honest, despite the acclaim it's already having. The first one is so circa between 2007 and 2009 when he was at the beginning of his music career, while the latter is another thirst trap, but not as much as the one posted above.
