I agree that it's odd, but I assume this happens? I'm not entirely sure about the following, so I could be wrong, but I don't think there's an act who has headlined twice or an act who has headlined before and perform at Coachella again after (doing) that.

Yeah I don't recall any solo artist coming back after headlining. Maybe this means his set will be shorter? IDK honestly im just excited he's going to be there because that's probably a sing that new music is coming soon.

Rage Against The Machine headlined Coachella back in 1999 and 2007, as well as this year, so there's at least an act who has come back as headliners, so I was wrong with my previous statement. Oops!

I doubt his set will be shorter (his 2016 set was less than an hour and ten minutes) only because he's not headlining Coachella again. That said, I assume he will be performing at the Coachella stage like he did back in 2014 and 2016, instead of the Gobi Tent and the Sahara Tent like he did back in 2008 and 2012, respectively.

Oh! And I agree with you. I hope the Coachella slot means new music is sooner than later and I'm crossing fingers we don't have to wait until April like he did four years ago with the release of "This Is What You Came For" that month. Hopefully, he will release something this month and he might have another one to drop in the following three or four months with a possibility of an album later this year.

I don't think it's odd at all tbh. 2016 would have been him coming off his years of Pop success and when he was at his most recognizable from fans across the board. And Rage is headlining Friday based on being the veteran act.  If Calvin would have been playing Saturday at Coachella in 2016, he likely would have been second behind Guns N Roses for the same reason. But the currency factor probably got him to Sunday where he was sure to be the bigger name act and hence the headliner.

If the Instagram post above is shazamed, it says that the track is called "Hypnagogic (I Can't Wait)" and it's attached to an album called Love Regenerator 1 EP. As a consequence, it makes me think that he will release a couple of EPs under the Love Regenerator title, which I hope they will lead into an album, unless he drops that idea and he only releases one (see: Funk Wav Bounces, Vol. 1).
