Hey, August! I forgot if I ever asked you. Since you live in NY and have been a fan since the beginning, did you go to the theatre to see Goose & Tomtom?? Or remember any advertising or talks about it? I wonder if a recorded show exists somewhere? I can't recall if it was even open to the public or if it was a one-night kind of thing... I never saw it, but I do remember seeing it on our local news. It was playing in this small theatre at Lincoln Center. It wasn’t the full production. It was a workshop of the play. So what that means is the play is in a somewhat rough form, has minimal (if any) sets, and if it actually does end up being produced, the cast may change. I have no idea if it ever made it to a full production. I did see Speed the Plow when she was in it. Her acting was...bad. When she left the show, Felicity Huffman, in her pre-Desperate Housewives fame, took over the role. I'm so jealous you went to Speed!! And yeah, that little piece of her acting that was shown everywhere on the news I also thought back then that it was really bad... Wasn't it something with her saying "i've been bad" or something like that? Thanks for your feedback on tomtom! So.... were you there in Times Square for the premiere I think of Who's That Girl? You know, she gave a speech i think? Or were you ever outside MTV studios for any of her TRL visits?

it's weird that Madonna can be so charismatic, so confident, and so assured of herself, yet she can't seem to get into another character without being Madonna. I thought she did well in Evita, but that's cuz she was playing herself basically. Same with A League of Their Own.

Funnily enough, I do work for the parent company of MTV and do marketing across all the channels..so I get exposed to enough of MTV programming, TRL was from before my time there.
I was only 17 when WTG premiered and I lived an hour south of NYC on the jersey shore. I didn’t move up here until after college, so trips to nyc were generally special event / occasions up until then. I do remember working at my after school job and they were simulcasting the premiere on the radio on 95.5 WPLJ and I got to listen to her speech.

It’s kind of why she seems like a brilliant actress in her cinematic music videos..like Oh Father, Express Yourself, Bad Girl, etc. she is controlling the narrative, it’s her own words, etc.

I don't think I have an idea of what is shown on MTV these days. I think I stopped watching sometime in the early 2000s. Started watching more VH1 and that also decreased significantly. Then I fully ended when I cancelled my cable back in 2010. So is it all reality shows both channels now? Any music videos? Or music documentaries? Interested to know if there's any connection really to music these days. But 80s and 90s for sure I was BIG BIG FAN.

I loved the VH1: Behind the Music series. Wasn't Madonna the first artist? Or one of the first.

Behind the music is coming back, but as an MTV show. But it’s mostly reality tv and some P.C. documentaries. Etc.

I miss the old Vh-1. They used to have fun shows like Pop Up Video, Vh1 Timeline, The Fabulous Life, Driven, and Where Are They Now.
I loved Behind the Music. I remember seeing the Madonna one so many times.
MTV used to be fun to watch too. Now it's completely taken over with those stupid Teen Mom series. Boring...

Behind the Music premiered in August 197; M's was on in August 1998.
Madonna was more or less playing herself in Desperately Seeking Susan; and A League of Their Own's "All the Way" Mae definitely had some of what we could call Madonna elements (man-hungry, Doris pointing out that there aren't men in the country who haven't seen her bosoms, etc.) Breathless Mahoney also had that sexy, sultry quality that's identified with her.
I wouldn't say she was playing herself in Evita, though she certainly could identify with aspects of Eva Peron's life.

She is a confident woman with genuine artistic skills yet she is such a bad actress. It's like she can't let go and get lost into another character and there's something about her line delivery... it's pretty much like whenever she opens her mouth she is just not convincing. Sometimes I think she might have been a good actress during the silent era of cinema. I believe the only thing I've seen her that I thought she was very good in was DSS, but frankly that's how Madonna the person in the early 80s behaved I imagine; a hustler in NYC trying to make it. I think she was decent in her supporting part in ALOTO too. Haven't seen Evita because I'm not really a sucker for musicals. I've seen WTG and while I don't think she was all that good, that movie is one of the most pleasant bad movies I've seen. I kinda love it and its soundtrack haha. Swept Away, was fucking awful and while Madge wasn't good I think that was the least of its problems. The Woody Allen movie was one of his worst ever and Madge had one scene but she barely made any impression on me. Never seen Dick Tracy but it's on my watchlist. I remember you guys here on this board recommending it as one of her better films. I've heard great things about her acting in Dangerous Game but the movie itself sounds so dull I have no inclination to sit down and watch. And LOL I've always wanted to watch Body of Evidence cause I've read it's like a second rate Basic Instict (I love that film!) and Willem Dafoe = 😍. Madge must be a joy to watch in that film. But, I haven't got around to seeing it yet. Do you all like that one?

I believe I have all her movies on DVD including A Certain Sacrifice. I have them all in some boxes from a recent move. Just a few weeks back I was thinking about watching them all again some of them after decades since the last time I did.

Just fast forward to her parts, etc. I think she would be good in a full on comedy. She was great on SNL as Liz Rosenberg and ALOTO was basically a comedy.

Madonna doing comedy for me is a hit or miss (perhaps more miss). I enjoy her so much in casual interviews in which she sometimes says funny stuff. I didn't like her for example on Will & Grace. I usually don't like her doing the stand up thing. And don't either like many of her recent "funny" selfie video posts online. I did enjoy the Rosenberg SNL skit for example.

I think Madonna doing comedy is the same problem with everything else she does...she is naturally funny herself..but when someone gives her something and directs her to be funny..she just isn't.

Most critics agree that Madonna's albums after Music have been a very mixed bag (with the exception of Confessions, which had almost universal acclaim.) I used to know every lyric to every single song on every album, but these last few albums have had less repeat listens for me. So I have spent time going back through her latter catalog and seeing what I have overlooked or just not given proper credit to. Right now, I am growing more affection for American Life, which quite honestly, I really disliked for years. My main problem was that all the songs sounded so similar to each other with that same combination of acoustic / electronic feel, that just grew boring. However, I realize there are some great tracks on there. Here is my ranking for all the songs on that album from best to worst.
1. Die Another Day 2. Hollywood 3. Nobody Knows Me 4. Love Profusion 5. Nothing Fails 6. X-Static Process 7. Intervention 8. American Life (much prefer the Headcleanr Mix) 9. Mother and Father (ugh that rap) 10. Easy Ride 11. I'm So Stupid

The things she share on IG can be really embarrassing sometimes. Girl, if you really like your privacy, do yourself and the world a favor and delete your FB and IG accounts.

I have always loved this performance of "Bedtime Story" at the Brit Awards. She looks so gorgeous and the production was so chic and flawless. This also remains the only time she has performed this song live. Some fun facts: 1)She was on a mini promo-tour of the album Bedtime Stories in Europe at the time. After this performance, she went to Germany and performed Take a Bow and Secret on the show "Wetten Das?" You can tell she kept the extensions in her hair, but she styled her hair in the most unfortunate way. 2)One of her dancers in the Bedtime Story performance was her dancer from the Girlie Show, Luca Tomassini. Her gave an interview that she asked him to perform in Evita, but he had to bleach his hair for a show he was doing in Italy and he had to be brunette in Evita. He was in the middle of another job and had to fly back and forth to do the performance and then back to his other job (which required him to be blond). He said he really damaged his hair for this, but it was worth it. She must have really liked him because she used him in the Girlie Show, Bedtime Story at the Brits, Human Nature video, and in the tango scene to "Buenos Aires" in Evita. He is most hot. 3)She wore the Versace dress from the Brit Awards in a series of Versace ads at the time and then she wore it again at the Met Gala in 2018.

I think it would've been another masterpiece in her cap. M.D.N.A.H.E.A.R.T. (2012) 1. Ghost Town 2. Devil Pray 3. Living For Love 4. Girl Gone Wild 5. Bang Bang 6. Bitch I'm Madonna (ft. I actually keep a pared down playlist of what I think Rebel Heart should have been and tend to listen to that. It gets rid of all the tracks that are chasing some trend, the rappers, etc. A lot of it felt all over the place, this feels more cohesive. Avicii's Rebel Heart > album version. oh 10,000% correct. I think she changed it up because she felt she had to since there had been a leak. That was a mistake.

I like the version of RH that ended up on the album just fine. On a similar note, I've always preferred the version of "Wash All Over Me" that ended up on the album; the song's less effective, for me, as an uptempo/dance track.
The RH album, in general, sounds like it had some mixing/sound issues- see "Inside Out." Unless those were intentional.

Rumors continue that GoldenFloor is a new Madonna song with The Weeknd.
Song is a leftover from Madame X and of course has been reworked.
