Variety Names 50 Game-Changers From 115 Years of Covering Entertainment When Sire Records co-founder Seymour Stein signed Madonna to a record deal in 1982, she was a dirt-poor, 23-year-old club kid with a homemade demo tape for a track (“Everybody”) that became her debut single. By 1984, she was on “American Bandstand” to perform “Holiday,” famously telling host Dick Clark her mission in life: “to rule the world.” And that’s essentially what the Queen of Pop has been doing ever since. Her second album, “Like a Virgin,” dropped in November 1984, and Madonna became one of the most famous female singers on the planet, a purveyor of female sexuality, unafraid to push boundaries. Grammy wins, a combustible and high-profile marriage to Sean Penn that was rich fodder for the tabloids and leading roles in such feature fare as “Dick Tracy” and “Evita” followed. And while Alek Keshishian’s 1991 documentary “Madonna: Truth or Dare” includes a revealing clip in which then-beau Warren Beatty mock’s the star’s insatiable need for attention, Madonna has proven herself a chameleon with staying power, reinventing herself many times over as children’s book author, philanthropist, human-rights activist and even “Esther,” the Hebrew name she adopted during her Kabbalah phase. Madonna has never claimed to be the most talented singer or dancer, but what she’s always had is relentless drive, grit and endless determination. variety.com/lists/variety-showbiz-game-changers/kathryn-bigelow-2/

Rumors continue that GoldenFloor is a new Madonna song with The Weeknd. Song is a leftover from Madame X and of course has been reworked. #goldenfloor Any rumors about a release date?

M's version of "Santa Baby" drops a couple of spots to No. 45 on Holiday Airplay this week.
By the by, regarding the Variety 50 Game-Changers- just another day, with another accolade. The impact this woman has had on music, entertainment and culture really is unparalleled among entertainers/performers over the last several decades.

The impact this woman has had on music, entertainment and culture really is unparalleled among entertainers/performers over the last several decades. I do love that she can release a few commercial flop albums and is still all over the press / media and people are still talking about her impact. Most other artists who release a few flops are written off and rarely heard from again. Most would have faded away after an American Life or Rebel Heart or Madame X. Even most casual fans know the singles that were not hits. Instead, she went on to still sell out stadiums, have the highest rated Superbowl performance at the time, still be asked to be on talk shows, award shows, etc. Also, in the scheme of things, considering how long she has been around and how many albums, soundtracks, compilations, and singles she has released, she really has not had that much totally miss the mark. So she deserves all the accolades she gets. Pop divas are still influenced by her. I feel like Ariana Grande has taken a page out of Madonna's 1984 - 1985 playbook.

Pretty much any female performer (particularly in the pop field) to come after her has felt her influence in some manner, for sure.

I'm really curious about her life in NY in early 80's, especially with Les Gang which included Basquiat, Andy Warhol, etc. The fact that she spent her youth with such cool and inspiring people must make some artists jealous, especially ones who try so hard to be cool.

It will be fun if true, but even if not, rumors are always enjoyable.

Some of the other things are plausible. And while she has a wicked sense of humor, I can't imagine that other track turns out to be real. But, "WAP" was also kinda nasty and gross in its own way, so who the heck knows these days.

The only thing believable in that article is a possible Weeknd collaboration.

Evita was a magical era for Madonna and her fans. Not only she gave us a great movie & a soundtrack, it became her most acclaimed role. I still use some of the songs from the soundtrack, i would use Another Suitcase In Another Hall and You Must Love Me if she'll release another ballad compilation.

For those of you who don't know, Susan Boyle covered "You'll See" for her debut album. Here she is singing it on the Britain's Got Talent 2012 finale. She does a nice job...though you can tell towards the end she gets a little ahead of the music. I had almost forgotten about it. It’s a nice version, especially in the choruses, but I prefer the original —one of Madonna’s best vocal performances

Ok, here is a little fun game. What was Madonna's last single of your high school career? (Provided you were in high school after 1982)
For me, it was "Causing a Commotion" which was released at the very beginning of my Senior Year (Class of '88). She did not have any other singles my senior year. Yikes, I am getting old hahaha!
