Isn't Crave on the album anyway? It is, but the 1st release of the live album didn't have it.

That, and "Crave" and "Sodade" were omitted from the Paramount+ release of the show.

^If that is true, it's not too surprising. In the late 2000s/early 2010s, Janet said positive things about M. The "diva" wars of the '90s and such should be left in the past. The media did not help, as it liked (likes?) to pit female acts against each other, especially in the '90s.

Speaking of women being pit against each other...I was reading an article somewhere about how Madonna's past catalog / singles rarely re-chart on Billboard or iTunes stores in recent years (outside of a flash sale)...but Taylor Swift has been charting all her albums.
I would argue this, and I have said this before, the popularity of Madonna's music over the past 40 years reached epic proportions. However, at this point, anyone who would want to buy a catalog Madonna album or single, probably already owns it. Any new purchasers are probably insignificant. Not only that, an album like Like a Virgin or True Blue are almost 40 years old. It is not like it is suddenly going to get rediscovered in its current form. Both those albums sold a combined ~50MM copies worldwide..how many more people would any expect to buy it? I would take another look at it once they start doing the re-issues with WB.
Taylor is half Madonna's age and is in the midst of a massive stadium tour where she is performing for the masses who stream music and actively re-recording her albums and re-issuing them. I say good for Taylor Swift and hope she gets her well deserved success. It is just not a valid comparison...nor a fair one.

A little addition to this is that the closest album Madonna has to something like Rumours, Thriller, or (that Metallica album that still sells 50-100k each year) is The Immaculate Collection rather than a particular studio album which changes the context of catalog sales in her case a bit too IMHO.

The Immaculate Collection β probably the greatest Greatest Hits to exist. I played that collection like an album, in my day.

As a kid in the 80s greatest hits collections was my way to go for many early-80s and 70s bands and solo artists. It was because I didnβt have money to buy albums or the artists had already created a big discography by the time I seriously stated following music. Madonnaβs case though when the immaculate collection came out I had all her studio albums and great knowledge of it. Still remember the excitement of getting the CD!! Appreciating the design or the cover, booklet, photos etc! I believe it was when the CD came still inside a long cardboard box right? Do you remember those? ;)

TIC was the first CD I bought for myself (the very first one was a gift CD of Spanish singer Isabel Pantoja for my mom). It was indeed the long box. And yeah I was super excited at hearing this new sound and looking at all the images in the booklet. Loved it. I used and abused that CD! I also had several of her songs in cassettes, but the sound was something else. I didnβt like some of the edits though, like La Isla Bonita, Into the Groove, Cherish, Like a Virgin, or Material Girl (always sounded too slow), but I also liked having the remixes versions of Holiday, Like a Prayer and Express Yourself. In any case, TIC was a super treat for M fans at that time and at the perfect time when a shift in technology was happening

Speaking of TIC, does anyone know if the vinyl matches the Q-Sound Mixes of the original release or the replaced tracks on streaming services?

bat- I purchased the color vinyl for TIC when it was released- but have yet to open it. Some day soon, perhaps. August- true about Taylor Swift. That goes for any chart records being broken in recent years, too. Such different chart rules/climates/eligibilities, etc. to make valid comparisons.

I have one of the reissues (nothing fancy) and it sounds like the OG. I don't think any of the physical releases use those random extended mixes. I've always found Discogs helpful for questions like this!

I appreciate seeing her pics like never beforeβ¦especially when sheβs happy and glowing.
Speaking of cassettes, Iβm realllly regretting getting rid of my Madonna ones when I moved. π

Besides wishing her the best recovery with or without tour, I'm very curious to see if and how this supposedly near-death experience will change M. With no purpose on criticism, it's obvious to me the M we've had in the last couple of years has been very in-your-face and defying all sorts of age-related and beauty standards and assumptions. To me it's had a less-sophisticated tone than in the past. In a sense perhaps more aggressive and totally more I-do-not-give-a-f#$k. And she's free to do as she wishes of course! I'm just curious if she now will come back softer and more zen OR if she will just go even harder and shocking in her ways since she's seen her mortality is a reality and there's no time to waste.

This is the probably the most beautiful recent picture of M I have seen in a very long time.
