All of Madonna’s children are becoming such talented and skilled individuals on their own! Like having Madonna as mum and nepotism does help, but they are in quite left field careers!

I saw the Cyndi Lauper Farewell Tour last night at Madison Square Garden. It was amazing and so much fun....and such a nostalgia trip. Got me thinking, Madonna and Cyndi and Janet are the only pop divas left from that era. But it also got me thinking that as big as Cyndi was at the time, her pop career in terms of any chart success pretty much stopped in 1989 with "I Drove All Night." Yes, she got some success in other areas after...an Emmy for Mad About You and a Tony for Kinky Boots, but in terms of her main career it stalled after about 5 years. Maybe she stayed too quirky? Who knows. I am not sure Madonna would have had continued success if she never evolved past Like a Virgin...or after True Blue she didn't evolve into the Like a Prayer era, etc. Same with Janet from Control to Rhythm Nation to Janet, etc. Each era took things further, new direction etc.
Don't get me wrong, I adored and still adore Cyndi, but she has pretty much stayed the same quirky Cyndi. But huge bravo to her selling out arenas on this tour and what a way to say farewell.

I wish I could’ve seen Cyndi in DC -I had to travel :( I saw her a decade ago and she was amazing! She was my favorite female artist in ‘83-86 But to be fair, she’s always been a pop rock artist more than a pop dance artist -and their popularity is shorter than pop dance in general. She had an amazing run in the 80s, though! And if music were fairer she would’ve continued successful. I’d say that My First Night was the wrong second single -Unconditional Love was a better, less jarring option for a ballad. And her next album had pretty good songs, but all the singles were slow. Who Let in the Rain for being such a good song it was too slow for the time. She had a minor recovery with Hey Now Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (loved it!), which should’ve been a bigger hit, but the next album was probably ahead of its time (basically a good precursor to Jagged Little Pill). She still had many bops like Shine (especially the remix!) and the totally underrated bop Into the Nightlife that in a fair world would’ve been a comeback, but oh well. She’s kept coming back to my personal chart though :) I’d love one day to have a roundtable with Cyndi, Madonna, Pat, Debbie, Janet, or some of them. Would love to see them reflect on their amazing careers and trailblazing moves for women in music!

Katy has definitely had more “un-quirky” moments, but WW brought all that back in a bad way.

I've been listening to Bedtime Stories to celebrate the anniversary. No skips from me - also my toxic trait how relatable this "Forbidden Love" line is: "Rejection is the greatest aphrodisiac"😭😭😭😭😭 Juanca Which Cyndi album is the one you're referring to as a precursor to Jagged Little Pill? I've never listened to any of her 90s albums in full.

Cyndi is Cyndi, but her music did change throughout the years so I guess you're talking more about her personality and not her music, right?

Would love to see them reflect on their amazing careers and trailblazing moves for women in music! I was SO INTO both Cyndi and Madonna in the 80s. I knew Cyndi first. As a silly anecdote... the very first video I saw of Madonna's was Material Girl believe it or not. I had missed all the videos from the first album and the Like A Virgin. I liked the Material Girl song, but when I saw the video, the 13-year old boy I was like "Oh... I wish she was more extravagant, like Cyndi..." Of course I didn't even know it was a Marilyn Monroe thing!! I thought the dress was her regular clothes!! Juanca, I'm so on the same page with you regarding My First Night!!! I always thought the same thing!! An always wished Unconditional Love was more in tune with True Colors and Time After Time. I thought she "screamed" too much in My First Night. And something else I must have mentioned twice here throughout the years, I always loved some parallels of those days I would have in my head: - 1986 - TRUE Blue album vs. TRUE colors album - Late 1986 - Open Your HEART single vs. Change of HEART single - Early 1989 - Madonna in the Pepsi Like A Prayer commercial with dark hair and a piece of blond hair at the front vs. Cyndi I Drove All Night video wearing a very similar dress to Madonna's only that red and with blond hair with a piece of dark hair at the front. Oh... and I still have not been able to find a single real picture of both Madonna and Cyndi together even though I've read they've met.

Even more so...Open Your Heart was originally called "Follow Your Heart" and was written for Cyndi Lauper first. She never recorded it and Madonna recorded it instead and rewrote some lyrics and change the title. Other "True" albums released that year included True Stories by Talking heads and True Confessions by Bananarama.

Madonna posted a beautiful message on Instagram about the election results and pf course people are being vile towards her in the comments. Honestly I just want her to turn off comments like Taylor.

Boring: From Popjustice forum: Like A Virgin out at midnight with 2024 remasters of Like A Virgin and Stay. And this is the single, correct? Hope it is the maxi. How long has it been since the announcement of a big reissues project? 3 by now? Man... I imagined so many amazing things for the re-issues of her biggest albums.... Will it ever happen...

“Popular” is at 974M on Spotify. Should reach 1B by the end of the year.
