I don’t understand why people keep confusing me saying reputation has a better chance of winning with me saying it will win. That is not what I am saying. Basically I am just saying Musgraves isn’t the kind of artist/album who wins AOTY, at least not to this point. When has a country album with positive critical reviews but not much else ever won a major Grammy? But, yeah, we also don’t know how having 8 nominees will affect things.
And, yeah, there are several reasons to think Drake won’t win ROTY or SOTY.

I wasn't confusing you on that point, I was just responding to that topic as a whole - it kind of came off as a Kacey/Taylor comparison before you even jumped into it so the overall conversation stemmed from that, at least IMO. We're both essentially saying the same thing in regard to the bolded - there's no historical basis to predict a win for an act like Kacey, so if one is to go along with that comparison, it's not so much that Kacey's odds are greater, it's just that Taylor's odds are already less. Having more nominees can only help someone like Kacey though, whereas Taylor has to hope there isn't another pop album and/or commercially dominant artist in the hunt. Unlikely for that to be the case.

I don’t think we can automatically say 8 nominees helps any specific genre or artist. It all depends on the nominees. What if now two country albums get in AOTY? That would hurt those nominees. 8 nominees could also help Swift in that she might not have even gotten in with 5 nominees but could get in with 8; I bet Ed Sheeran would have gotten in one of more of the big categories last year with 8 nominees, for instance. He might have then won one, too.

What was the point to expand the nominees? I didn’t understand why the Oscars did it. Eh, I understand why. But the voting committee hasn’t changed much for the Grammys that I know of. They did for the Oscars. I think the Grammys should still have male and female categories. I know since it happened there’s not a big discord with wins but I just think there’s a huge difference vocally and it was a silly move to save money.

I hope Post gets nominated for Album of the Year and not Drake's long snooze fest. Why not both I don't particularly think Scorpion is a great album, it's a very meh album. There's really only like 8 good songs, which is pretty bad for a 25 track album. But Views was nominated for AOTY, and that was basically the same bland record. Both these albums didn't/don't deserve an AOTY nomination, and especially a win. You know what did though? Take Care. The fact that it wasn't even nominated for AOTY baffles me since it's by far Drake's best record.

Take Care is still Drake's best work, but the Grammys probably won't resist the impulse to nominate Scorpion solely for it's huge chart dominance.

He might have then won one, too. I'm operating under the assumption that there isn't another country album this year that would get in AOTY, which is why I say 8 nominees helps Kacey. But if another country album did get in, then yeah, that would definitely hurt her chances a lot (and yes, in general we need to see who the nominees are to gauge who is most likely to be affected by a split). I think the only other real country contender is Chris Stapleton's From a Room Volume 2 though and I'm being a bit generous with that based on his AOTY nom for Traveller. From a Room Vol. 1 didn't get an AOTY nom following that, and I don't think the buzz is really there for Vol. 2 even in an expanded category. I will say that Kacey needs to make sure she's still visible come nomination time, or else she will be overlooked in favor of later releases or acts with bigger label machines. With Taylor, the odds of her being the only pop album are much lower than Kacey being the only country album. So reputation's odds of being nominated might be increased now, but then the same holds for several other pop artists and then they'd cancel each other out. I'm by no means saying Taylor won't be nominated (I'd be more surprised if she wasn't, in fact) I just don't think she has a strong chance to win if she is. Of course all of this is without factoring in other genres. I don't even know what rock has to offer this year but I wouldn't be at all surprised if this year's AOTY ends up with 3 pop albums, 3 r&b/hip-hop albums, and Kacey, only for a rock/alt artist to waltz in and take it and people to get pissed all over again.

IS I Like It eligible for the Latin Grammys also or no ? It's eligible for the Latin ROTY, Best Urban/Fusion Performance, and Short Form Music categories for sure. A song has to contain at least 51% Spanish or Portuguese lyrics to be eligible for Latin SOTY and Best Urban Song so I'm not sure ILI would meet that requirement.

It all depends on what's nominated. Kacey Musgraves can certainly win AOTY if the committee nominates it as the only country nominee against a bunch of urban and commercial hits. I'm not totally convinced that reputation will make the final 8, tbh.

The Beyonce duet version has different lyrics though. Beyonce cowrote the updated second verse.

Do we know Ed went with the Beyonce version for Grammy's instead of the Andrea Bocelli? (is there a language percentage requirement?)

The small panel who decides the top categories knew he'd be a predictable win that would cause backlash. He was probably tops in votes in every category lol.
