Whenever an artist has a major win (ie, Grammy sweep, Superbowl headliner, etc, etc), it's always seen as a huge gain for them - but sometimes the win backfires and there's backlash for various reasons. Overexposure, seen as being undeserved, or some other reason. What are some artists and situations that might be seen as a career crippling win?
For example, Macklemore had a huge year in 2013 but since the Grammy sweep, almost down to the minute, he's struggled to have any sort of major hit or comeback since. He almost would have been better off not winning any of those Grammys.

Paula Cole won the Best New Artist award in 1998 at the Grammys but her mainstream career stalled after that. Some have said it was because she showed her unshaved armpit hair during the performance.

In addition to Macklemore (I honestly do think the backlash to him largely came over beating Kendrick for those hip hop wins, which is completely ridiculous), you can't not mention Janet Jackson. One Super Bowl performance changed the course of her career completely...
