The clip sounds like something from a Broadway play. Now I want Gaga to write a Broadway musical. I could see her really thriving in that environment and it would get her closer to an EGOT.

OK, this makes so much more sense to me now. I thought it was wild she was dropping an album, that could compete with Joker (and it’s soundtrack), DWAS being a hit, and in general, a year where we’ve had every pop artist drop an album (end of year charts, award season, etc are already stacked).
If this is just a side project, I’m totally digging that. And I expect nothing less from Gaga who is a true artist.
Bring on LG7 next year.

Loving the amount of new stuff we are getting but now I’m even more concerned with how LG7 is going to do considering she’s kind of dropping all of this stuff right on top of each other. A whole album tonight and the new single next month already?? All while DWAS is still doing its thing? It’s just a lot at one moment. For me as a fan though, I’m living haha

Depends what you're after. The art direction and mission statement (Folie A Deux companion piece) were giving dark, off-kilter rock-flavoured re-interpretations of these songs that might seem more in line with the character. What I heard seemed more like the third piece of a 'Cheek To Cheek' trilogy (sans Tony Bennett). Gaga is welcome to do all the jazz/standards albums she wants and those records have their supporters but that's not what I'm looking for from her. I just feel like this album was incorrectly framed, and 'The Joker' is the closest representation of what I feel like it should've been.

Thanks for the response, this is exactly what I thought might happen with the album and my personal expectations ahout Gaga’s music that I would like. Nevertheless, exciting times ahead for her as an artist, her point of view and ability to go left field is admirable.

Loved the album! Super fun and pleasant. I'm not sure what it's replayability is, but it was an enjoyable listen. A nice side project, and very fitting with Joker. The only song I didn't care for was The Joker. If there is a focus track, I hope it's Happy Mistake

This album has such a warmth rarely heard on any album. Love love love it!!!
World on a String, Happy Mistakes, If My Friends Could See Me Now, The Joker and Folie a Deux are all standouts!! And like eyeofthestorm said, there is just something extra in Smile that makes it WORK.
Her new songs (FAD and HM) are absolutely on par with some of the best traditional pop songs ever written as showcased here.
Easy 8/10 for me. QUEEN!

I think she accomplished what she was going for here and she sounds fantastic, but I'm never listening to this again, lol. A lot of these songs just didn't need another version/cover.

It's a nice listen, the whole album, but since I'm neither a Gaga diehard or a show tune junkie, I'm only keeping a handful of tracks... namely "World On A String," "Folie à Deux," "Happy Mistake" (the best!) and "The Joker". Awesome that she's giving the monsters plenty of music before the actual album next year (which I'm here for) in any case.
