Tbh they should seriously consider MAJORLY delaying the first single and LG7, like possibly at least till mid next year. Publicity around her is just too negative at this time, and especially if they're gonna leave DWAS off the album, the one successful thing to come from her recently.

I have an extremely hard time believing the LG7 lead is dropping within the next 2.5 weeks. The timing absolutely feels wrong. Again, let DWAS kick into overdrive on radio like it’s starting and smash the rest of the year and let people forget about Joker (it’s such a bomb most of the general public will by early next year).

Publicity around her is just too negative at this time, and especially if they're gonna leave DWAS off the album, the one successful thing to come from her recently. Again, IS IT negative? Her streams are constantly increasing across the board. Some comic book fans screaming "sHe wAS tHe wROnG cHoiCe" is not negative publicity. That discussion has been going on since she was announced to play the part because "only Margot Robbie can portrait Harley". That said, I don't know what is happening in the US, but in Europe absolutely nobody is viewing her in negative light at this moment, regardless of the opinion about the movie. Some media headlines: "Lady Gaga electrifies in mediocre musical sequel" "I Finally Understand Why Lady Gaga Said Joker 2 Wasn't Really A Musical" "Joker: Folie à Deux makes it clear that Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn is only just getting started, and I really need more" "'Joker 2' Review: 'Folie à Deux' Wastes Lady Gaga" "Joker: Folie à Deux Review: Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix Make a Bad Movie Sparkle" And even if some comic book fans view her in negative light at the moment, are they people who will consume her music anyway? Probably not. All I am saying, I think people are overanalyzing the impact this "car crash of a movie" has to her MUSIC career. She is a supporting actress in it after all. The hate train is moving towards Ariana anyway: ;)

Yeah I haven’t seen any negative coverage either. The only negativity I’ve seen are from trolls in here and the occasional post on twitter, which almost always comes from someone unofficially repping another pop star.

People acting like this is a Glitter redux don't understand why Glitter was so personally damaging to Mariah. She was at the peak of her mental health struggles and the movie flopping was just icing on a the cake for the media ready to tear her down.
Gaga is not that. The movie is a major flop, but Gaga isn't making a spectacle of herself on TV shows drawing more attention to it. In a month, nobody outside of DC stans will even remember this movie exists. Movies flop all the time. Gaga got her check, she's not losing sleep.

Well I am brave and predict that people will actually find this movie and its merits later on as beneath all this "comic book disaster musical boring no plot what did I just watch or I will never watch that disaster" debate is an intriguing story about mental health in today's society.

Viacom/Columbia were funding it as part of her new recording contract. Hell, it was based on HER LIFE. 😂 Gaga co-starring in one comic book sequel ain’t the same. Not even close.

There’d probably be all kinds of “she’s over” doom and gloom talk around Gaga ahead of LG7 rn if not, which isn’t what she needed. DWAS really came at the perfect time to cancel out a lot of the negative pub for Joker ahead of LG7, since no one can try to claim Gaga can only flop now with one of her biggest hits ever on the charts.

Everybody will walk out of this unscathed except maybe Todd, but I'm laughing at anybody who says he did this intentionally to kill the franchise... 'cuz the goal of any director to not get hired.

It is partly WB's fault that they marketed it as a such a splashy movie when in reality it's pretty much a musical drama. They took a big risk and have the D audience score for the movie, which is unfortunate. The movie is not also a pointless turkey, because it has generated a lot of debate and think-pieces. Like for instance this that says that "the movie is bad but it's art and a metafulfillment of Joker's manifesto" and the hefty long "Themes and analysis" section on the movie's Wikipedia page. It's a pretty remarkable film, actually - even beyond the obvious "box office bomb" discourse.

I personally believe the only people arguing LG is even in the midst of a downswing are her detractors. Even most criticisms of Joker 2's performance still blamed the direction if anything and highlighted her talent, work ethic, and wanted her character to be more than relegated to the back half of the film. Regardless, I still don't see the value of frothing at the mouth for anyone's decline anyway? And LG was always such the suspicious choice to hate given her immense talent, front-facing advocacy, warm personality, and open heart/mind when there are so many actually problematic stars? It would be like hating a kitten or worse, Kelly Clarkson. People do hate to see others really shine tho sadly.

Just chiming in to say I'm thoroughly in love with Harlequin, what a wonderful album. I've had a new song stuck in my head every day, though I think "Close To You" is my favorite.

It has the worst audience CinemaScore for comic book movie of all time (that includes “gems” like Batman and Robin, Madame Web, and Morbius), and is on track to land anywhere in the 1-5 range for biggest box office bomb of all time. That’s all despite the first being the highest R rated grosser ever at the time of release ($1b+) that broke new ground for the types of awards a comic book movie could win at the Oscars… I highly doubt everyone is getting out “unscathed.” That said, it makes no sense why Gaga would shoulder the biggest fallout from it, so she should be fine. I still maintain this might steer her away from acting for a bit though and more towards music again, which is kinda the dream for me tbh.

I still maintain this might steer her away from acting for a bit though and more towards music again, which is kinda the dream for me tbh. I mean, the first one was so successful on a fairly small budget that it gives such a wide buffer for bombs like these. If you take into account the first film and the second, the two combined still raked in a massive profit. Major studios factor in major flops like this into their budget. I don't think Joaquin or Gaga will be affected, they'll both still act again. Todd, being the director with ultimate responsibility of the project, might be a different story lol. I think the fallout from this will just be that studios pay closer attention to the demographics of a film. Making Joker 2 a musical was an absurd decision... that was always gonna go down as a giant THUD, with comic book fans.

Nobody with more than two brain cells is blaming the film on Gaga and there's no reason to delay the new music. There's no correlation.
Film did find even more ways to collapse through the week and is predicted to end around $65 million stateside which at this stage is great because no one will remember it by the time the new music drops.

I don't want to go down the Mariah rabbit hole cause wrong thread but Glitter breaks down was more than a movie. we've seen singers make horrible movies with nothing more than a joke made ie Giggling by JLo or Madonna back in the day ect.
Glitter was the intersection of race issues and misogynistic men at record label upset that their prized billion dollar worth artist divorced them, made music with "filthy rappers"and that he lost control. Many are on record saying Tommy was making calls to press and producers to bash Mariah, he used his connections to ask for favors. It had nothing to do with a campy and badly written movie. It was a product of humbling a woman who dared to be herself and escape ABUSE.
It has nothing to do with a movie and circling back to GAGA I've seen not one criticism of her this is all made up shit from a few social media accounts that already hated GAGA. At worse the general public doesn't even know this movie exists.
Much like Mariah. Gaga is a talented artist and one thing is for sure , if you're TRULY talented and have a fan base that's established and connects with you. You will survive and prosper no matter how much dirt they throw at you. They've been trying to humble and kill GaGa since her meat loaf hat days and yet here we are she is still thriving , while other pop stars of that time have come and gone BLOOP. End of the day it's not what amount you sold or what single went #1 it's what those songs meant to people.
That's why Obsessed a non #1 is still being referenced and tik Tok to death and ain't nobody digging up and replaying your favorite pop stars they compare to MC #1s from a few years ago OOPS 😬
Gaga won. Mariah won. Talented will always win. No matter how many "hold me closers" and similar type of "personalities " on Social Media speak into the air they still will lose.
Anyways thanks for creating a whole ass Gaga media loop and free promo so when her lead single comes out she will BLOW up in your faces and gag y'all and leave you shattered and scattering for cover.

It's not "dead" in the sense that it'll still continue making *some* money. Most big movies still do for about 3-4 weeks or so even with horrible word of mouth / critical reception, especially since the studios already had allocated a specific number of screens for the movie. So, they'll try to recoup as much as they can during this first full week out. But realistically this was "dead on arrival." It will end up loosing hundreds of millions of dollars when it's all said and done, which is one of the biggest theatrical failures of all time. I did some calculations based on how the box office looks like US vs. international and how some of the recent movies have performed domestically and counted that Joker 2 might make around 380-395M during its theatrical run. If the breakeven is 450M like Variety reports, it's not THAT far off + it will be a hit on streaming for sure when it's available. So it could be better, but it also could be worse. Lol it won't even make half that. Currently challenging for the biggest second week drop of all time.

That is unprecedented in terms of poor legs. One of the most interesting box office runs in years (for the wrong reasons).

I'll maybe post more later, but I've been listening to Harlequin a lot and it is such a fall vibe. "Happy Mistakes" is one of her best songs hands down. "Gaga can't do a ballad" who? Love seeing her at the top of her music game, and her Spotify streaming numbers through the fucking roof. What a moment for all us Monsters.

"Gaga can't do a ballad" who? Is this a legitimate criticism people have with her? Cause LG has always been able to write amazing ballads. I mean I think she's more than accomplished that with "I'll Never Love Again", "Remember Us This Way", "Joanne", "Million Reasons" for example.

I mean, she had a total of like 4 ballads ever up until Joanne, and I think the balladry on that album was quite rough around the edges (title track aside). But she has most definitely come into her own as a balladeer in recent years, so that’s an old argument.

Speechless I remember she pushed a lot and a lot of people always felt it wasn't that good. But post ASIB, nah. No one says that anymore.

I like Speechless for what it is, but it felt so unnatural coming from her back then lol. Though leagues above Brown Eyes at least as her only other comparison point at the time.
Dope could have totally been her ballad breakthrough if she fine tuned the OG I Wanna Be With You lyrics rather than changing them entirely into that ill-conceived drug metaphor mess and kept the OG vocal style rather than some of her most cringe vocals ever.
