Tell me a song that was in the top 10 which had a weaker chart run than Diplomatic Immunity Well in it's defense it wasn't a single. www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/8098913/imagine-dragons-believer-hot-100-chart-moves-bebe-rexhaThe others bolded were also non-singles and had huge falls and charted for a handful of weeks. "Red" later on became a single though, and I believe charted some more weeks (albeit never reached nearly as high again). Pretty tragic drop, but I think a non-single going top 10 is already a great achievement. Also let's not forget Soko - We Might By Dead Tomorrow, which has the worst chart run ever: 9 - OFF Only 1 week charting after debuting #9.

Question about recurrence: Will a song go recurrent if it falls in terms of position on the chart but has a bullet? Assuming it satisfies 20/50 or 25/52 of course

^ Not really unlucky. Those would have been extraordinarily weak #1 weeks, its points for those weeks were pretty typical of a #2. Honestly the song that got unlucky was Shape Of You, was at #2 with over 50000 points and #4 with over 45000 so if it hadn't charted in such a competitive time it would have had a ton more weeks at 2 and 3 instead of 4 and 5 It also had a really easy beginning to its run. B&B had around 40k points when it was fighting with SOY for #1. In fact, had SOY been stronger in the beginning, it could have notched an extra 38000 points that would have been quite easy to attain.

Assuming it satisfies 20/50 or 25/52 of course I believe it will stay on the chart and not go recurrent, if I'm not mistaken. So for instance, if a song in its 21st week falls 50-51, but shows an increase in points, it will stay on the chart.

I know if the song actually rises in position it stays.

Bullets are intended for songs gaining and still being worked - not songs that have been around forever and just happened to show a gain in week #53. The key is - is it being worked or not? Imagine Dragons singles, for example, get pushed to Pop after other formats in many cases, so although they are old on the Hot 100, they are new to a format and being actively worked all over again.

If a song peaked loftily and is approaching recurrency and gains in points to still below the cutoff, it's still going. Don't Let Me Down was predicted to move up like 1% and go like 43-40 or something, when it needed to be above #26 to continue. This, incidentally, explains why Greatest Love Story stayed for a 21st week despite not having a chance at actual momentum recently: it moved 65-59 and its peak was a mere #45 (technically the same tier), so it being the top sales gainer was worth acknowledging by keeping it on.
Plus, the whole point of super recurrency is to get old songs out unless they're demonstrating remarkable strength. Just because a song's gaining off random streaming and sales bumps doesn't mean it's remarkable, hence why we haven't seen any exceptions yet. In fact, a nail to the coffin was demonstrated just this past week: Can't Stop the Feeling gained enough that it was #3 on Recurrent Songs, and judging off the positions of other tracks, that means it was somewhere between #30 and #50 (the Culture II bomb prematurely knocked a few songs out that would've readjusted back into the top 50 and 40). However, it obviously did not re-enter the Hot 100 because that notable bump didn't actually get it to the top 25.

Charts are supposed to be objective, not subject to opinion. If billboard actually does this, that really pisses me off...lol

Tell me a song that was in the top 10 which had a weaker chart run than Diplomatic Immunity "We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow" by SoKo debuted at #9 in early 2014. It immediately fell of the chart by next week. (It really was dead by tomorrow). Until a song debuts at #10 and immediately falls off the chart the next week, it will forever hold the record of the weakest Top 10. Diplomatic Immunity's chart run isn't really too uncommon. During the iTunes era, there were a few other Top 10 hits that debuted high because of sales hype and then immediately died down the following weeks because there was no radio to support them. American Idol, Taylor Swift, and I think a few Nick/Disney figures have had songs with similar runs. Taylor Swift's "If This Was A Movie" may be the second worst. Two weeks. #10 -> #53. Taylor Swift's "Change" also had a worse chart run than "Diplomatic Immunity". Three weeks. #10 -> #39 -> #100.

I notice that the Hot 100 doesn't necessarily have to have a Greatest Gainer / Airplay anymore. Last week it didn't for the first time in 31 years.

Only Sail achieved that, which was the specialest of special cases, and we have no examples post-rule.

Taylor Swift's "If Today Were A Movie" may be the second worst. Two weeks. #91 -> #53. I honestly can't tell if you meant "Today Was a Fairytale" or "If This Was a Movie". Also I hate when sometimes I have to reply within the quote cos I can't click below, must make it confusing to read.

I also put #91 instead of #10 (me accidently doing inverse point stuff in my head, lmao) I posted a huge list of songs with weak chart runs but then pro-boards deleted it, so I got really mad and posted just the two that were worse than "Diplomatic Immunity".

Really hoping Look Alive debuts around the 25 mark, didn't expect it to blow up so quickly. Yet again, what else do we expect when Drake is featured

It didn't get to that point until it was already past week 52, that was what I meant. However, it's moot because the rule didn't apply yet.

Don't forget about Purple Rain which returned to the charts and went 17-4-off :(
Also in answer to the question about bullets, another example is Little Talks by Of Monsters And Men which peaked above 50 on its first run and then fell below 50 with a bullet but stayed on. So at its 25th week it was at 53 despite having been at 49 a few weeks earlier, because it had a bullet for all that time

Funniest thing is that GUMMO, The Race, KOODA, and KEKE are each getting more airplay than LWYMMD. LWYMMD biggest flop lead single since I honestly don't know and Reputation biggest flop album since I honestly don't know. 😂😂😂😂😂

No more of a 'special case' than an album track that debuts the week of an album release (though the Prince songs were re-entries, not full chart runs). Even that Soko song is a 'special case' because it was a random song featured in the background of a video that went viral, and it charted for one week off the views. Few if any of the songs we've been discussing were actual singles that had very brief chart runs. It all depends on what type of charting song someone is looking for.
