This is a solid top 10. Glad Rise Against were able to make it, I had a feeling Ready To Fall would go out in the #11-15 range. Nice to see Tool in the top 10 once again, and Talk is definitely one of Coldplay's best, so it would've been high on my list. Surprised to see Miss Murder outperform Love Like Winter though. A bit disappointed that Arctic Monkeys weren't able to make the top 10, but I'll take top 20, that song is great (no idea how this is even close to anything cock-rock). Soul Meets Body sounded really good on first listen, I think it would've been in my top 10 had I participated.
Rooting for Knights Of Cydonia to win this (mainly because I don't think Ready To Fall has a chance).

21. Only - Nine Inch NailsNVR got the hype for NIN. Surprised about NIN in general, "Closer" seems very much a 'Dowload? Check.' song for you.

I'm posting in this particular thread in Georgia font, and if you've been in a rock chart rankdown thread recently, you probably know what that means...it's time for the top ten preview!
- Making their first top ten appearance are AFI and Depeche Mode. Depeche Mode had never finished in the top 40 before this top ten appearance, though they only had a couple of songs in rock chart RDs before 2006. - 10 Years are making their second top ten appearance, though it's also their first in an Alt rankdown. "Fix Me" finished #6 in the 2011 Active rankdown, and "Wasteland" will be looking to improve on that performance here. - Coldplay are making their second top ten appearance, with their first appearance not having been that long ago. They finished #5 in the 2008 Alt RD with "Violet Hill". - Despite all of their appearances in rock chart rankdowns so far, Green Day are only making their second top ten appearance in a rock chart RD. "Bang Bang" was the only song to accomplish the feat for them so far, finishing #8 in the 2016 Active rankdown, so "Jesus of Suburbia" will be looking to top that performance tonight. - This is the fourth top ten appearance for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, though, interestingly, it's only the second song of theirs to make a top ten. "Dark Necessities" made the top ten of EVERY rock chart rankdown in 2016, finishing #9 in the Active rankdown, #5 in the Alt rankdown, and #3 in the AAA rankdown. - This is the fourth top ten appearance for Tool in just their second year of eligibility. The first three were all in 2007, with "Jambi" finishing #8 in that year's Active RD, and "The Pot" doubling up at #9 and #2 in the Alt and Active rankdowns, respectively. "Vicarious" will be looking to top all of those performances, of course, but I imagine it will want to start with the 9th place finish of "The Pot" in the '07 Alt rankdown. - And then, there were the heavy hitters. This is the tenth rock chart rankdown top ten appearance for Muse, and their second straight appearance by year in a Alt top ten. In 2007, they matched their best performance ("Uprising", 2009) when "Starlight" finished #3. That will be a tough hill to climb for any band, but "Knights of Cydonia" might be up to the task. - Rise Against...what more is there to say? This is their eleventh top ten appearance in a rock chart rankdown. The four time rock chart rankdown #1 holders are looking to add a fifth with "Ready to Fall".

I'll just get this in before the top 10 again...
25. Yellowcard - Lights and Sounds (#73): Mediocre pop punk. Don't get the love for these guys at all (and I don't get why this outlasted several superior pop punk songs). 24. The Raconteurs - Steady, as She Goes (#9): Wow, I thought this was a lock for the top 20 at the very least (especially after the less accessible "Icky Thump" just barely missed the top 10 on a stronger list). Probably the best single Jack has released outside of the Stripes, ridiculously catchy and full of hooks. 23. Foo Fighters - DOA (#76): Not one of the stronger Foos singles. The weakest off In Your Honor, IMO. 22. Weezer - Perfect Situation (#64): Might have underranked this slightly. Definitely the best single from Make Believe, though that's not saying much. 21. Nine Inch Nails - Only (#6): Ugh, was hoping this would be my #58 so that the top 20 could all be in my top 50, and it ends up being a top 10. My favorite single off of With Teeth. That bass is so groovy... 20. Death Cab for Cutie - I Will Follow You Into the Dark (#58): Yay! I adore Death Cab (as my rankings of their other songs have proven), but this is easily their most overrated song. I've never been huge on it in the first place compared to their other works, but its overexposure has made it all the more annoying for me. 19. Deftones - Hole in the Earth (#1): Fuck, my #1. Deftones are in my top 20 favorite bands of all-time, and this is the song that introduced me to them (and not even my favorite single of theirs, but it's still a 10/10 masterpiece for me). That chorus sends chills down my spine whenever I hear it. 18. Gnarls Barkley - Crazy (#17): Ugh, I thought this would be a lock for the top 10. Undisputedly one of the best pop hits of the past 20 years. Excellent production, excellent singing from Cee-Lo. 17. System of a Down - Hypnotize (#32): Just a decent SOAD track (Mesmerize's album tracks are way better than its singles), but decent SOAD beats a lot of other bands. 16. Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor (#10): An awesome way for this band to make their debut. Ridiculously catchy and frenetic, glad it made it this far. 15. Angels and Airwaves - The Adventure (#36): Far and away the best thing to come out of any Blink side project. A little bit cheesy, but it does the epic sound pretty well. 14. Wolfmother - Woman (#14): P-P-P-PERFECT RANKING! These guys are nothing but imitators, but they're great at what they do. And yes, "Joker and the Thief" is superior (and I ranked this top 15). 13. Stone Sour - Through Glass (#20): I normally drop the repeats, but this was a weaker list than 2007 (and I love this song anyways), so it ended up slightly higher here. One of the decade's best pop-rock songs, excellent writing and melody. 12. Death Cab for Cutie - Soul Meets Body (#2): Glad to see the right Death Cab song made it the furthest, wish it could have made the top 10 but I'll take its position. This was the song that got me into them, and it's probably my favorite single of theirs as well. This is about as good as an indie pop song can get. Those jangly guitars are beautiful. 11. Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars (#18): Has held up tremendously well for me despite its overexposure. Beautiful song - the moment when those drums kick in is magical.
Extras: "Joker and the Thief" is all I care about in this set, but that would be a top 10 for me.
Anyways, about the top 10... My remaining ranks: 3, 7, 8, 12, 16, 23, 29, 33, 35, 42. Not bad at all, considering that the top 10 usually holds at least one song that I dislike.
What songs in the top 10 are a surprise to you? "Wasteland" is the only surprise here (thought it would get excessively tanked by the Active haters and land somewhere in the 30s or 20s at most), but I'm not complaining about it at all.
What songs are you disappointed to see not make the top 10? "Soul Meets Body", "Crazy", "Steady as She Goes"
If you're feeling bold, predict the top 10. 10. Wasteland 9. Miss Murder 8. Ready to Fall 7. Vicarious 6. Talk 5. Precious (I called this being the big underdog here, and I can't really see anyone tanking it) 4. Dani California 3. Jesus of Suburbia 2. When You Were Young (there's a known tanker for this, and that tanker might just cost it the win) 1. Knights of Cydonia

Which will be the first of our vaunted top 10 to fall?
#10 is a song that, after reading out the statistics, will probably shock you all with how low it is. 24 people ranked this song in the top half, meaning only three people ranked this song in the bottom half. Only two people ranked this song in their bottom 40. Six people ranked this song in their top 10, which is on the lower end for tonight’s reveals, though. Three of them were top 5 rankings.
As a result, this song was a top 10 contender for the entire submissions process. It never once left the top 20. It never broke into the top 5. At times, it looked like it might get shut out of the top 10. The longest stretch of consecutive lists it spent there was 8.

I'll roll with "Dani California" for this...though I have a gut feeling that it might be Rise Against.

Sad to see this go. This was the biggest grower for me in the entire rankdown. I ended up boosting this on my list all the way to #4. Fitting that 10 Years go out at #10, though.

I thought this would go out in the 10-6 range. I also knew that Doc ranked this low. I wonder how I knew that. Great performance for it, though.

This was definitely very good (hell, I really really like my top 60) but I would’ve preferred to see other songs make the top ten. I’m also shocked that Precious did this well. I underranked it which is gonna be wierd since my avatar is a fucking Depeche Mode Album

#9 is another song that looked like it would do better.
This song spent 22 of the last 23 lists in the top 10, so this was pretty much a contender from the beginning and never looked back. It spent 13 lists in a row in the top 5, even reaching #2 for three lists, but a significant wave of backlash hit and it never re-entered the top 5 after falling out.
Three people ranked this song #1. In total, six people ranked this song in their top 5. NINE people ranked this song top 10, which is the most we’ve seen yet. There will be a lot of people upset with this reveal. Three more people gave this song a top 20 ranking, and four more a top 30. With 22 top half rankings, the people you will be mad at are the three people who ranked this song bottom 30.

I predicted this to be the first to go out of the top 10, but I really was hoping that it wouldn't be. Ugh. Definitely one of my favorite Active hits of the past 20 years.

If this had been in the 11-15 range, like I was certain it would be last night, I would have been furious.
Tonight, I'm mainly happy that "Precious" made the top ten at all. I can't believe some of you actually tanked it, though. I don't get it.

So we're just going to start off by eliminating what's left of my top 10? > I legitimately thought no one would be capable of tanking this, and I'm disappointed to be wrong. Beautiful song though, definitely their best post-Violator song. That synth that comes in at 2:25 gives me the chills.

#8 is a bit less divisive.
Four people ranked this song in their top 5, and we do lose another #1. Eight people in total bestowed a top 10 rank upon this song, and four more gave it the gift of the top 20. This is another song with 22 top half rankings, and this time, only one person ranked it in their bottom 30.
This song’s success was a lot less uncertain. While it did have some brief stints in the top 10 early on, it refused to find consistent ground in the top 10 until the very end. Of the 10 lists it spent in the top 10, seven of them were the seven last lists of the game.

I'm going to guess that this is "Miss Murder" based on who boosted it into the top ten last (hint: He tanked one of the songs that has been revealed tonight).

Very happy with Precious's placement as I did not expect it to reach the top 30.
Don't understand Dani's performance vs Tell Me Baby and Snow, both much superior singles.

Huh, thought this would be top 5 for sure. Guess I should've seen it being this low after the backlash started coming out of nowhere. The guitar solo at the end definitely boosts this one up for me.

#7 gets rid of seven top 10s. Sadly, no one ranked this song at #7.
At least one of those seven top 10s is a #1. All in all, four people ranked this song top 5. It also received four more top 20 rankers and five more top 30. With 24 top-half rankers, only three people did not rank this song at 50 or above. In fact, only one person ranked it in the bottom 45.
This is another song that was doing well for most of the submissions process, but did not spend a majority of lists in the top 10. It reached the top 5 early on but then spent 13 straight lists out of the top 10. It didn’t come back until the end, but the end is when it counted.
